[SuSE Linux] Patching things up

When I did a patch -s <patch-2.2.2.gz I got the following messages: 1 out of 1 hunks failed -- saving rejects to linux/CREDITS.rej 1 out of 1 hunks failed -- saving rejects to 00-INDEX.rej 97 out of 98 hunks failed -- saving rejects to linux/Documentation/Configure/help.rej 2 out of 2 hunks failed -- saving rejects to linux/Documentation/fb/vesaf.txt.rej Is my linuxbox keeping count of the losers (the 'hunks') who try to hit on a hot babe or is it something else? Seriously though, did I fill in the wrong option (-s) or did I have to add another one? Another question; during the bootup I noted the following message: modprobe: can't locate module nls_iso8859-1 My best bet is that it's a national language support module. I opted for the American and a European module. I could be wrong, of course. [SuSE Linux] Java can't find its classes

I'm trying to run a program ( BurnIT for writing CD's) that is written in Java. However, when I run it I get the message "Can't find class BurnIT" even though BurnIT.java is in the directory. I've done a lot of experiments now and determined that the problem is much more general: I created a sample Java program in /tmp and had exactly the same difficulty. There's a note in SuSE Help about CLASSPATH being related to this problem, but I unset CLASSPATH (which had a null value anyway) and it made no difference. I've also explored the directory /usr/lib/java/bin/i686/green_threads, which has a great number of java variants, but I can't find anything revealing there, and the critical executables, java.SuSE-static and java.SuSE-dynamic, are in binary form. I'm running SuSE 5.3, and from the names of the files this does seem to be a SuSE problem. Can anyone tell me what I need to do to get my Java programs to run? They do seem to run under Netscape - but the note in SuSE Help indicates that usually they do even when other classes can't be located. Well, since we're getting adventurous, how about 'make -j 5 zImage zlilo modules modules_install' The -j is the number of threads or instances of the 'make' program to start while compiling. As a rule I would do 1 per 10M memory on the machine, but never more than 15. you can save a lot of time by creating the config you like with 'make menuconfig' then 'make dep clean bzImage modules modules_install' it runs the whole lot instead of issueing the 6 separate commands listed below! Well, I cant give you all the details on the solution, just a direction. I am struggling with a simulair problem. You have to compile Apache with support for dynamic libraries. This is explained in the INSTALL document. You can either call configure with all the correct options or edit ./src/Configuration to change the static modules in to shared modules. [SuSE Linux] PERL Can't load module

I am trying to use the GD library to show dynamicly created GIF files<BR> thru CGI scripts.<BR> <BR> After installing the packages GD and Chart from<BR> <A HREF="http://www.linux-magazin.de/ausgabe.1997.12/Chart/chart.html<BR">http://www.linux-magazin.de/ausgabe.1997.12/Chart/chart.html<BR</A>> and using the example script space.pl i get the following errors in my httpd log file:<BR> <BR> <FONT face="r_ansi"><SMALL> Can't load '/usr/lib/perl5/i586-linux/5.00404/auto/IO/IO.so' for module IO: Unable to resolve symbol at /usr/lib/perl5/i586-linux/5.00404/DynaLoader.pm line 166.<BR> <BR> <FONT face="Arial"><BIG>Seems the DynamicLoader is'nt able to load a dynamic object file. After <BR> some research I came to the conclusion that maybe Perl 5.004.04 wasn't compiled with the correct options. (see http://theory.uwinnipeg.ca/CPAN/data/mod_perl/mod_perl_traps.html , section Perl modules )<BR> <BR> I downloaded Perl 5.005.02, removed 5.004.04 from my system, installed the new Perl version, and ofcourse the Apache webserver didn't want to start anymore. /usr/libexec/apache/libperl.so was still refering to the old Perl version.<BR> <BR> Yuck, that means I have to download the Apache source and compile it. Your X server refuse your access or cannot talk with you This could be caused by several problems: - do your network settings are corrects? I mean can you telnet your machine? - Check your DISPLAY variable try: $ echo $DISPLAY :0.0 $ export DISPLAY="target.screen.machine:0.0" - on the X server your host must be authaurised: try $ xhost to see all accepted hosts $ xhost yourhostname would fix.
