I am trying to get sounds for different keyboard events. I found the module stuff, read the man pages, pushed the buttons told it to save the desktop everything I can think of. Is there a step by step set of instructions to get this working so it stays on all the time. In all those pages of reading I do not think it is in there. Perhaps a small script We could copy that would turn everything on to begin with and then we have to worry about turning it off. I like bells and whistles. Like having to recompile the kernal for sound when I had loaded sound programs up It should have done the kernal or a module there. I' m trying to configure C-News and Suck to download articles from a remote host and browse them offline with Tin but I have many problems. When i try to make a "sucknewsrc" typing "suck -A -hl localhost" from root, I get the following: Attempting to connect to localhost Using Port 119 Official host name: localhost Alias Voyager Address: 127.0.0.1 Connected to localhost 200 Voyager NNTP[auth] server version 1.5.12.1 (1 Jan 1995) ready at Sat Apr 18 23:21:45 1998 (posting ok). Loading active file from localhost No sucknewsrc to read, creating Adding new groups from local active file to sucknewsrc New Group - adding to sucknewsrc: control New Group - adding to sucknewsrc: junk New Group - adding to sucknewsrc: news.announce.newusers New Group - adding to sucknewsrc: it.comp.linux Elapsed Time = 0 mins 0.23 seconds 0 Articles to download No articles Closed connection to localhost After this, I go to /var/lib/suck/ but sucknewsrc was not found nor read nor updated (as you see above) and no other "sucknewsrc" has been created. The only thing it writes is a "suck.newrc" in the directory from where I typed the command above. So I' ve edited /var/lib/suck/sucknewsrc by hand entering newsgroup names by hand but suck does not seem to find it. What did I miss? Do I have to run all suck processes as user news staying in directory /var/lib/suck? Which command do I have to type to start news downloading? "/var/lib/suck/get.news.rnews"? As user news? I' ve edited /var/lib/suck/get.news.rnews but what should I write in "BASEDIR= # base directory for suck rpost and scripts"?? Suck executable is in /usr/bin Rpost is in /usr/bin Scripts... which scripts? I' ve put get.news.rnews and other things in /usr/lib/suck. Which value should I write? What' s "/var/lib/suck/cola"? As I' ve never tried to download news from remote hosts, what' s that "cola-liw-809989529-6999-1(a)oravannahka.helsinki.fi"? /var/log/suck.errlog is empty. In /var/log/news I get the following error: Apr 19 00:54:00 localhost nntpd[21231]: list: fopen /var/lib/news/newsgroups: No such file or directory What can I do? I' ve already read man pages and I' m more confused than before... Please, help me. [S.u.S.E. Linux] X on my Windows95 box from my SuSe Linux box

Well, I've got SuperX working and its really nice to not have to walk out in the cold so much. I just needed to add the Win95's IP address into the .hosts file on the Linux! You might think me a big wuss about the walk, but when the sun goes down at 8150' elevation it gets cold FAST and our nights are still in the 14 to 20 degree F range. Although it IS working, I get the following errors. FvwmTalk: dead pipe FvwmButtons: Cause of next X Error. X Error of failed request: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter) Major opcode of failed request: 25 (X_SendEvent) Resource id in failed request: 0x1c00002 Serial number of failed request: 764 Current serial number in output stream: 766 xterm: fatal IO error 2 (Broken pipe) or KillClient on X server ":0.0" Any ideas? Hello everybody! While using suse 5.1 and fvwm2, Xfree, and MuPAD(!) I got an error message that my text buffer was full! (I assume for complicated algebra in MuPAD) I couldn't even delete text. The error-message also said, that changing a text buffer variable in the ~/.Xdefaults -file might help? Hi, I am following the GTK tutorial, but I am lost with compile issues. The tutorial say to use the gtk-config program to pass the correct compile flag to gcc. But I did not manage to found this program in my suse linux 5.2. Does some know how I should compile my program. All I have is a bunch of 'undefined reference' for each GTK functions I am using. I have a registred version of OSS Sound for Linux. The installation went smoothly under SuSE Linux 5.1. However, I installed SuSE Linux 5.2, and during the installation (step: veryfying the kernel), I receive an error message (see below). I am using the same oss driver: osslinux381q-20x.tar.gz. I install the oss sound driver as follows: First I remove the existing sound.o driver from /lib/modules/2.0.33/misc, I edit conf.modules and replace the line "alias char-major-14 sound" with "off" and reboot Linux before installing the driver. Can somebody explain what is going on? Does anyone know how to limit a user's ability to navigate the file system. I know that FTP automatically creates a false root so that an anonymous FTP connection cannot get below that directory. I would like to be able to allow certain users a login and rights to their home directory ONLY!! I have set very restrictive rights, only to get numerous errors upon login. Even with these restrictive permissions the user can look around if they know UN*X filesystems. I neglected to mention that xwd images can then be converted to the format of your choice using gimp. Does anybody know of a tool that will allow me to capture either the contents of complete windows, or of marked off sections of a display? In other words, I would like to be able to select a window, such as communicator, and save it as a jpg or gif. I would also like to capture a selected rectangle of my display that may cross window boundaries, e.g., part of my netscape browser window and part of my KDE file manager window in one jpg.
