How do you start the Xserver? Is you XFree setup within the monitor specs? Sorry for the third degree on this, but it still sounds as if the monitor is being over driven. At lower color depths a lower resolution is generally used. That is a general statement. Typically as you increase the color depth you increase the res. Again this is not always the case, but without knowing your setup and the corresponding resolutions I can't determine for sure if the monitor is over driven. Do you have another OS like Windblows installed, does the video system work OK with it? It is possible that your monitor is going south on you, that's why I ask about performance on another OS. It's possible that something is wrong here, but probably unlikely. BTW, you might poke around the Linux Doc Project for video setup info, somewhere I found a good document on it. I'll look and see if I can source it and post it. Something seems strange, of all the problems I had when I started using UNIX video was one of the least. Probably my dumb luck and of course millage varies a lot. Hi- I have had to make some changes due to dns routing issues. Here is my situation. I have a custom domain name called basin.com which resides on a local ISP called znet. They also give me POP and smtp support by a reflected basin.com account which is an alias to their smtp and pop email handlers. My hostname here is mperry. This means that programs like slrn tack on the "mperry" to outgoing email and it appears thus From: mperry(a)mperry.basin.com. I would desire it to be for awhile mperry(a)basin.com. I have this figured out with mutt and knews with no problem. I had to recompile knews and tell it what to use. I would like to bend slrn to my desire though :) and drop the hostname in outgoing emails. I hope this is not a sendmail.cf issue. I dont like reading stuff that looks like mathmatical expressions. Sorry I forgot to add one more thing. I have a KTX monitor (read cheap 17"r) This one needs to be set to the factory defaults in adjustments/settings in win95 mode to work properly under exfree. Then 950f the flicker is gone. What the relationship is here I have absolutely no clue, but it works for me. I had a similar problem with my monitor and the same card setup. What wroked for me was to reset the monitor (on) and having the resolutions set for 8@ 1280 x1024, 16@1024x767 24@same and 36@800x600. Note while I have the virtual desktop set for all modes it only works in the lower settings. There is still an slight flicker in the top left corner but some further tuning when I have some time will hopefully address this now minor irritation. Tom Thanks but that isn't it. Ldconfig is used to set up the path to the system libraries. I didn't load a new library for mutt so no need for ldconfig. Just for kicks tey this: ldconfig -v > my.libs That will put a list of all your system libraries in my.libs. Also take a look at /etc/ld.so.conf. If you happen to add a lib and ldconfig doesn/t find it, add the path to that new lib to ld.so.conf and run ldconfig again. Now your cooking! Also do man ldconfig for all the REAL scoop.
