[SuSE Linux] WP8 &5.3

I still haven't gotten SO5 to install under 5.3. I did download Word Perfect 8 today and had no problem installing the package under 5.3. Sometimes the magic works and sometimes it doesn't. I'm glad it decided to work this time. Actually, an easy way to get that installation disk is to run setup.exe from the first disk off an Win95 machine. [SuSE Linux] Initial impressions of WP8

Looks very good. Small size, fast and easy to install. It has a registration key you must enter like SO5 but is MUCH easier to use. It can also save in different formats like SO5 (Word 97 AMI Pro etc..) Best thing is it's libc5 and not glib, so nobody should have any problems installing and running this product. Overall, I think I'll be using it along with SO5. Note: it can't use documents saved from Word with the quick save option. [SuSE Linux] Ethernet problem, maye the card...

I got a full featured LAN with some machines all working good, al the PCs have 3Com NICs ad one has RealTek RTL 8029 PCI NIC, this one produce random error on /var/log/messages after that the network on that specific machine wont work since reboot is needed. All this happen randomly!!! producing this error by the kernel in /var/log/messages kernel: eth0: mismatched read page pointers 4c vs 64 Telast two hex digits changes EVERY time the error occured. On that machine there'are no special network services (www & ftp) Note that the rest of the network continue to work correctly. Any hints is welcome. [SuSE Linux] file permissions

Does anybody know where to find texts on file permissions on unix/linux (on the internet)? On the basic level it's all clear, but after a certain point, like background processes, databases, etc. I get confused with how it all works. So far so good. I loaded SuSE 5.2. and have X and KDE running. However, I have some problems getting to second base. I manage to get the modules loaded for PCMCIA support and Modem Support. Basically the system loads the following modules: pcmcia_core.o ds.0 serial.o i82365.o Is this correct? I also configured my PPP files using the instructions provided by Mindspring, my ISP. However, when I run pppd, nothing happens. I look in TTY7 and there is a message there saying I/O busy. What does this means? Did I not load the right pcmcia or modem modules? Did I not configure the PPP files correctly? Is there a way to test whether my modem is even active? (A la terminal " AT")?
