If you receive this communication in error, please advise us immediately. ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ I suggest using XF86Setup as I find it pretty easy too use !! this runs a very generic X session and has a nice GUI interface. select the modeselection tab and select the modes you want to run i.e select 640 x480, 800 x600 and maybe 1024 x 768 and the pixel quality select 8bpp to start with until your system is a bit more stable then try the 16bpp etc. once everything is done click the done button which will try to run the X server you selected with the relevant options. I hope this works.. I used xf86config to set the card up and it went pretty smoothly. Like they say in the manual, it looks kind of ptimitive but it did what it was supposed to do. There is one thing, though. Everything looks gigantic! The resolution is something around 340 X "another low number". I don't get this, I mean I did choose the right resolution settings during setup and "the resolution setting for the severely nearsighted among us" wasn't even an option. Ctrl + Alt + - won't change anything. What went wrong here? I worked at Madge over the summer. They do have a linux driver for all of there token ring cards including the PCMCIA cards. [SuSE Linux] gcc2.8.1 problem with segmentation fault

Hello ! I've compiled and installed glibc2.0.6 and gcc/libstdc++ 2.8.1 under /usr/local/. But I have problem using it. Since I have gcc2.7.2.1 installed with libc5 under /usr I tested a simple hello world, and my old g++ compiled and the executable runs fine. ------------------- #include <iostream.h> int main() { cout << "hello world" << endl; return 0; } -------------------- ldd a.out shows this: libg++.so.27 => /usr/lib/libg++.so.27 (0x4000d000) libstdc++.so.27 => /usr/lib/libstdc++.so.27 (0x40045000) libm.so.5 => /lib/libm.so.5 (0x40076000) libc.so.5 => /lib/libc.so.5 (0x4007f000) But when I use g++2.8.1 it also compiles fine and ldd shows this: libm.so.6 => /usr/local/lib/libm.so.6 (0x4000d000) libc.so.6 => /usr/local/lib/libc.so.6 (0x40026000) ld-linux.so.2 => /usr/local/lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x400c8000) But here is the problem, when I run this executable it just says segmentation fault. What can be the problem here, shouldn't there be a c++-library in the 2.8.1 executable ? Also if I use g++ with the options -nostdinc -nostdinc++ to be sure that none of my old headers are used which dirs do I need to include myself ? I know that /usr/local/include and /usr/local/include/g++ are needed but I guess there is more. I really need help here. Hello, I'm having trouble getting SuSE 5.3 to recognize my Madge Smart 16/64 PCI Tokenring card. In the hardware Database it's status is list as unknown. Does anyone know if this card is supported? Has onyone have a IBM Thinkpad 1720 with SSE Linux and X running ? Can you comment on how the install went ? I'd really like to know what problems I have before I sped $2K ! [SuSE Linux] Masquerade and Firewall

Hi all, I masqueraded my Linux PC. Do I have to protect my Linux PC with firewall too, or is masquerade enough protection for connection to the Internet? In what way can I test my system is secure enough from possible attacks from outsite, in my case Internet? Any comments or suggestions wellcome. [SuSE Linux] WindowMaker sound and SuSE 5.3

Does anyone use WindowMaker with SuSE 5.3? If so, has anyone successfully compiled and used the sound server for WindowMaker - wmsound0.9.0? I'm having the following problems getting it going.
