You need not install Star Division's glibc coz the one on 6.0 is compatible with theirs. You just need a fixed "setup" binary. We have it, and it will come with the final release. I don't know if it's already included with the FTP StarOffice distribution. hiya kester, well i am from hudds, just down the road, i would suggest that you install the cut down version of 5.3 now, play with it, mess it up, and learn the hard way of crashing the system, then at least you get to play with linux on your new brand spanking machine! ;) then when suse6.0 comes out end of jan, go for it, that's what i am going to do. I got suse 5.2 from pc plus also, well it was 5.2 then. I downloaded all the 5.3 from the internet, installed to zip disk and took it home, put it on a fat32 disk, and installed from there, but the best bet is not to do that, just buy the suse6.0 when it comes out. I wouldn't bother with buying 5.3 now, not so late. Hi, I did what Lenz told me I download the file then I did: rpm -U <the file.rpm> I heard the disk and that was it. then I start xf86config, fill all the fields and chose SVGA 256 color server. then I did startx > startx.log X didn't start I got a black screen (nothing on it ) and a little noise in the monitor ( tic tic tic ....) so I did CTRL+ALT+BACKSPACE. I went back to text mode, it seems by looking at the log that the server I choose supports the G200 but I cannot go to X. anyone as a clue ?? [SuSE Linux] xwindows setup - monitor res

Okay, another question.. my monitor works great at 1024 but I can barely see the font! So I wanted to switch to 600x800 and when I did, Sax gave me the success screen but without the four little squares in the corners. At any rate, the reslution is okay, except that the desktop is bigger than my screen -- I hate that, so you go to the bottom of the screen with the mouse pointer and it keeps on going. In other words, if I am looking at my docking icon, I cannot see the gnome bar at the bottom. Does that make sense? YES -- I had the same trouble with SO 5.0 and SuSe 6.0 beta. You could blame the 6.0 beta for not being an exact glibc 2.0.7 setup or you could blame SO 5.0's install program for being too picky about what libraries to look for. Bottom line is that the libc setup for 6.0 is not what SO5.0 was hoping to see. There is a SO dir (in the install tree) that has a glibc setup and instructions on how to install/fix glibc. It has a nice summary of which linux distributions have which libc's. (doesn't list SuSE 6.0 yet) SO 5.0 has a glibc directory that will install the 'right' version of glibc -- I did it on 5.3, but I did not want to do it on my 6.0 box for now... Anyone tried Oracle8 with 6.0? I used the glibc-rh.rpm from www.suse.com on my 5.3 system to try to get Oracle8 going. It worked some, but then I had linker trouble. I don't like the idea of having to force a SO glibc on my 6.0 system. I don't like loading a glibc-rh.rpm on my 6.0 box. I had this trouble with Software from Avant! corporation too. When I boot there is a message: Setting up network device eth0 Setting up network device eth1 SIOCSIFFLAGS: Try again SIOCSIFFLAGS: Try again The command ifconfig doesn't show eth1.
