[SuSE Linux] diald HELP!!

Last night I installed diald and masquerading on my SuSE 5.3 box. Everything was going just dandy (dialing, routing, ipforwarding, etc) until I realized that diald was constantly picking up and dialing. Now, being a fairly bright boy, I used tcpdump to observe what might be hitting the link and causing the dial. [SuSE Linux] App Recommendations?

Hi -- I've been using Linux for a while but almost exclusively from the console. Now, I've got a computer that's fast enough to make x11 worthwhile and I want to migrate all my GUI-dependent tasks to my linux box. My situation is that as part of my job I must edit html pages on the fly, as well as make perl/htmlscript/cgi/etc modifications on the fly for clients. I've begun experimenting with various programs & projects but I kind of wanted some recommendations... if anyone feels inclined to recommend.. (1) A telnet client that emulates ANSI (2) A visual ftp client (a la wsftp) (3) What is the best email client? One that can handle multiple POP accounts, folders, filtering, etc? [SuSE Linux] X Question

I just recently installed SUSE Linux 5.2 on a Dell Latitude Xpi. Everything went fine until I tried to configure the NeoMagic Video Card. I am using XF86Setup to setup X, and the configuration seems to complete OK, but when I try to startx, I get an error message and the system bombs. I am trying to use 740X680 resolution. The startx will work if I use a 640X480 configuration. [SuSE Linux] X-Windows crash & burning (:-(

Hello. I have got this problem. It doesn't matter what x-server I use, or what window manger, I still get crashes. The whole computer will just freeze, mouse, keyboard & all. The power button, CTRL-ALT-DEL (& other keyboard combo's), the screen & mouse freeze. The only input I can make to the computer is the reset button on the case. Is this hardware or software? What is causing this & what can I do? thanks in advance, Bye. [SuSE Linux] Packets Causing Unwanted Internet Connections

Hi Folks, First, I want to thank all you good folks who responded to my last posting concerning excessive network collisions. Through all your advice I was able to fully understand what was going on. I have been trying to find a new ISP and after going through three, I now have one that really lives up to their claims concerning speed and reliability. So, I have been away from the list for awhile Thanks again. Now for the current problem. Packets continue to be sent to web sites I have viewed for some time after leaving that page, or pages, resulting in continuing internet connections. I can see the packets being sent using tcpdump. There is no reply, the packets are only outgoing. This activity eventually stops but the time varies with the number of viewed pages. I am using the 3Com ISDN LanModem, SuSE 5.3 on all machines, with one acting as a file server/mail server/router. Netscape versions 4.05 and 4.5 are in use on different machines. This problems occurs with all machines. The packets continue to be sent even after Netscape is completely closed. It's occurrence is only related to web pages, not ping or email, etc. It also does not occur with the one Win'98 machine running Netscape 4.5. No proxying is being used. I have connected machines directly to the LanModem thereby bypassing the router machine. The problem persists. Any help will be greatly appreciated! D. R. [SuSE Linux] GTK help!

Hello everyone -- I'm using SuSE 5.3 and had a couple of questions as I'm trying to upgrade GTK (so that I can use Balsa actually). What version of GTK does SuSE 5.3 come with on the CD? Is there a different way I can find this out (rather than asking!)? I am trying to upgrade to the new GTK but am a little confused. If I follow the generic way of installation in the GTK INSTALL file, does that do the trick? I'm wondering because I see GTK stuff in /opt/gnome/... and I know that /opt is not a standard Linux filesystem thing. Right? How do I know if my software is using the new version of GTK I put on? Um, as you can see I'm rather confused as this is the first library I've tried to upgrade in my life.
