[SuSE Linux] Play Music from Command Line

Hello everyone:-) I've been playing a bit with the 'play' command and have discovered that it can only do .wav files:-( I've got my linux box set up so that it runs in linux during the daylight hours and then around 3:00am it reboots into OS/2. The reason for that is because I have developed a rexx script in os/2 that in essence turns the computer into an alarm clock by randomly playing .wav and .mid files, whereever they may be (a maintenance script locates the files and stores their locations, and then the alarm script just reads the file and selects a file (much like fortunes in linux)). I would like to do the same thing in linux, but have been unable to find anything that can play the .mid files. On the dos/os2 portion of my box, most of the music files are in either .wav or .mid format, and of course, linux seems to have a pretty good selection of .au and .raw files. I can put together something to locating and selecting what files to play, but the play part is what I've been having problems with. Does anybody know of an application that I can use that will play most of the more popular music formats from the commandline? [SuSE Linux] Can't login anymore! And my logs have stopped!

hey folks, I was trying to telnet into my machine a while ago and found that I couldn't! Everything used to work fine, but now I get my normal login prompt, but when I enter my correct username and pass it tells me login incorrect. However, using X and KDM I can log on without a problem. Other virtual terminals are a no go. As a side note, maybe related, I checked my logs to see if maybe some error was being spit out to there, but to my suprise I found that someone attempted to hack into my system. I have concluded that they failed after checking all kinds of stuff, but since that point, approx. Dec 9, my log files have stoped. syslogd is running, and the binary is dated my install date (so the hacker didn't switch it). [SuSE Linux] Problem with shadow password, need suid? KDE upgrade caused this.

Hi all, I was wondering if someone might be able to help me. I have just upgraded to the newest version of KDE from the suse ftp site. I am running suse 5.2. I uninstalled the old version first, then installed the new version and it all semed to work okay. However, when I run KDE I get a message saying: Shadow Passwords Your system uses shadow passwords! Please contact your system administrator. Tell him, that you need suid for the screensavers! Does anyone know what this means, and/or how I can fix it? What caused this? Running SuSE Linux 5.2 with KDE upgrade to 1.0. After upgrading from 32M of ram to 96M I noticed the following happening after a boot. ... <4>Probing PCI hardware. <4>Calibrating delay loop.. ok - 53.25 BogoMIPS <4>Memory: 79328k/81920k available (776k kernel code, 384k reserved, 1432k data) <6>Swansea University Computer Society NET3.035 for Linux 2.0 <6>NET3: Unix domain sockets 0.13 for Linux NET3.035. ... At boot time it clearly shows 79328k of memory available for programs. But when I run free I get the following... total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 79328 77884 1444 54612 4900 16656 -/+ buffers/cache: 56328 23000 Swap: 104416 0 104416 As you can see I now only have 1440k of free memory. Is there some way to limit the amount of ram that the kernel grabs for its use and if so how can I incorporate it into my boot string? I do notice that when I start a program such as StarOffice it takes a long time to load and my machine starts to use swap which seems strange to me with the amount of ram installed. Any help would be appreciated on this. On the 6.0 beta a question or two (I know, you may not be able to answer: 1. I have Metro Motif 2.1 (from yall, development, it has SuSE 5.3 on it). Can I install the Motif on the 6.0 beta? 2.
