RS6K standard Ethernet card supported?

The RS6K B50 comes standard with the PCI IBM 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Adapter (unless its token-ring, fddi, of course!). During installation, the Selection of Network Devices screen does not directly offer this as an option. Also, the Hardware Database doesn't show any IBM ethernet cards as being supported. I was going to choose NE2000 (PCI), but in the SuSe knowledgebase, there are some articles saying this may not be a good idea (kfr_16) or that the system may not recognize the card (rb_nwkconfig). Has anyone found problems with the on-board Ethernet adapter on the B50 under the NE2000 PCI driver? Did you use another driver? Thanks for your help.

Thank you for your prompt response. I will try your solution, but... how can I set kernel args before the installation? I am sorry if this is a beginner question, but I have set kernel args only AFTER installations, never BEFORE (I am an experienced Intel Linux user, not PCC). When I boot, the system does not ask me for any kernel parameter (I boot from the CD with PPCBug), so how can I set parameters for SuSE install? 7.1 text-based on RS6K

I'm using an IBM 3153 ASCII terminal connected to a RS6000 B50 to install 7.1. Unfortunately, the screen does not refresh or display correctly and becomes unusable after loading YAST. I've experimented with different setup settings (Emulation, AutoScroll, etc) and I've had no luck. Any suggestions for setting up a terminal to use a text-based install?

Running Powerbook G4 with SuSE Linux PPC 7.1 with current on-line patches and bug update and all October 4 2001 Gnome 1.4 base packages. (You guys did a great job with the SuSE Linux Gnome Service!!) October 4 2001 evolution rpm depends on libgal.so.9 and can't find. looked everywhere for version 9 with no success (using rpmfind.net and suse site quick search) forced rpm install. evolution will then launch displaying the launch screen briefly but quits unexpectedly (but gracefully) prior to displaying anything else. tried creating symbolic link called libgal.so.9 to libgal.so.12, still doesn't recognize libgal.so.9 (maybe in wrong directory?). What to do? Thanks Mark

DFP support for kernel radeonfb.c added

Hi, Okay, with lots of help from Ani and Ben and starting with Ani's most recent radeon code which worked for LCDs and with a lot of testing on my Apple Flat Panel 17 connected to a Radeon Mac Edition card on the dvi port with a dviAtor adapter, I now have the DFP support for radeon frame buffer working well including parsing of the EDID block from OF. To control all of this, I have added two additional options to the kernel parameters passed to radeonfb.c of_edid - which means look in the OF device tree in /proc and grab the detailed timings from the EDID block dfp - overrides the monitor detection and set MT_DFP lcd - overrides the monitor detection and set MT_LCD So my kernel line in yaboot.conf looks like the following: append="video=radeon:of_edid,dfp" The panel x and y resolution are taken from the EDID block and a default_var structure is built up from the detailed timings so no change to the deault block or passing of panel_yres is needed. I have also fixed the setting of fp_XXX registers including stretch to properly intialize their values so that if OF does not set them in some correct "initial state" things will still work. (I need this to get my panel working). All of this depends on their being an EDID block in /proc under the Radeon device tree (it exists on my machine). You can simply look in /proc in the device_tree to see if one exists on your machine (need to have the monitor connected for it to be created). Since there are a lot of changes and since other people have submitted radeon patches recently, I have attached my complete files (radeonfb.c and radeon.h) in the form of a tar archive to this e-mail so that others may more easily understand the changes. I hope this helps others with flat panels but be warned I have only tested them on my own machine. So don't come back to me if your FP goes up in smoke. Use at your own RISK! BTW: Using a dviAtor, and an Apple 17 inch flat panel is a real blast and now all of my eye strain is gone! Have fun! Kevin

Linux 7.1 hangs on installation

can anybody help me? i can't install suse linux ppc 7.1 on my new powerbook- i've tried also mandrake 8.0PPC i've tried to copy the MACOS ROM to copy in the (suse) boot-folder of my 32MB Partition HPFS - but all what happend was that there was a small pinguin at the little happy face during my installation- trys of mandrake i've got the feeling there are some problems with the ati-fb settings (RADEON?) How long I have to wait for PPC7.3 SuSE and will 7.3 boot and install on my mac? please help me... maybe some comfort ? greetings ben

Install 7.1 on RS/6K w/ terminal

I just purchased 7.1 and a new RS6K with an ASCII terminal. I am able to boot from the CD-ROM but I never get to see the installation screen. I was advised by SuSE tech support, during installtion, to enter boot: install console=/dev/ttyS0,9600 and then I would be able to see the installation screen. This did not work. I have requested additional information from tech support but have gotten no answer. Has anyone done this yet? Thanks for any help.

Suse ppc and printing

First I would like to say that suse 7.1 w 2.4 kernal is the only release that saw my twinturbo, mandrake and yellow dog died. Keep up the good work. Issues: Having difficulty with tcp/ip printer setup, using a ricoh, I set up the remote printer, it says the printer is reachable but then I cannot print a test page, I went through some research and found that linux print said to change the port to 544 (from memory) on my printer, but it rejects anything less than 1000. Any help appreciated. Perhaps sse 7.3 for the ppc with netatalk will solve this.
