G3 Server and 1 GB of Memory

Hi all! I'm running a Suse PPC Linux Server on a G3 Server Machine. Since RAM is cheap, I though on Upgrading the 256 MB Memory to 1 GB. So I bought 3 256 MB DIMM Blocks and stick them into the Server. To my first surprise not all RAM was discovered or shown with "free". Actually I have 4 DIMMs in the Server 2 x 128 MB 2 x 256 MB = 768 MB "free" shows this: free -t total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 578784 558088 20696 113680 444824 59536 -/+ buffers/cache: 53728 525056 Swap: 262136 916 261220 Total: 840920 559004 281916 Any suggestions? Trick? iMac internal modem

Hi all, I've not been able to make kppp or the Gnome equivalent (I forget its name and I'm in OSX now) dial the internal modem in my 2001 slot-loading iMac (SuSE 7.1, KDE 2.2, Gnome 1.4). Searching various FAQs revealed others with the same problem, but no answers. The Setup and other parts of kppp seem to work properly and it claims to recognize the modem, but the log shows that it freezes when the modem does not respond with "OK" after the "ATZ" initialization command from the software. Is ATZ the wrong initialization command, or is something else wrong here? With SuSe 7.1 we could boot the installation on CD 3 but we can't do that with SuSe 7.3. Can you be more specific? What RS/6000? Where does it freeze? Since the CD is bootable there is no real need for floppies on chrp based machines. However, the kernel gets bigger and bigger each day. Newer kernel.rpms will create a special floppy-install kernel. You can find it here: ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ppc/kernel/BETA/deflt/ Use zImage.floppy-install.chrp and ramdisk.floppy-install.gz. Question about drivers for video cards

Hi all, since the old video card in my Mac went south over the weekend, I am in need of a new one. I'm looking for a PCI video card (yes, I am still using one of those ooold Macs ;-) now. I would like to buy one that has acceleration under SuSE 7.3 as well as MacOS. From what I have gathered from the list archives so far, there are beta drivers for GeForce 2 MX and for ATI Radeon chip sets (DVI output). Do these drivers work for PCI versions of the respective cards, too? And in case of the Radeon: are there drivers for the VGA port on the Radeon? Are there any drivers for the Matrox MPDD (don't know what graphics chip is built in there)? Any help would be appreciated, as I need to get my Mac up again soon. Thanks in advance! RS/6K can't start after halt

I had to shutdown -h the system to move it from one location to another. When I powered back on, I was greeted with a "Client program not recognized" error. I have SuSE 7.1 PPC installed. Thanks.

Installation of SuSe 7.3 for PPC on IBM RS/6000

Hi I'm trying to install SuSe 7.3 for PPC on an IBM RS/6000 machine. When I boot cd 2 it freezes. I've been trying to make the boot floppy mentioned in the book but the zImage on the CD is to big to fit on one floppy (How stupid is that?). Can anybody help me? Jacob

Hi Ani, Hi Ben, Hi all! I'm asking for the resources to bring up the radeon card in my november- powerbook G4- could you help please? I've tried the vmlinux.elf-pmac - it works great (can't select from any boot menu only OF - but isn't the real problem because it doesn't have gmac , radeonfb , and hfs inside -schade eigentlich!) got the problem of not beeing able to compile a complete kernel / esp. modules! got no complete 2.4.12 sources (are they already including the makefiles for the radeonfb ?) can somebody help me with a virtual x server running under 2.4.12 ? greetings from ben
