Hello all. I recently changed the job of my rs/6000 from server to
workstation. I originally made it a server because I couldn't get it's
X working properly, and now I'm stuck trying to fix it again. Anyway,
the box has a gxt2000p graphics card. The 2.4.2 kernel supplied with
Suse 7.1 works console fine, but starting X gives a mess of mostly
black. So, I started researching again.
I read in another post that I needed to upgrade to the 2.4.6 kernel.
Compiled, booted, froze immediately. More on that in a bit. I then
tried the BETA kernel, in the ftp site. Same result (aside from the
version number). Here's what the screen shows:
- beginning -
Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.4.12
linked at : 0xc0000000
frame buffer at : 0xfa800000 (phys), 0xd0800000 (log)
klimit : 0xc038c66c
MSR : 0x00003030
HID0 : 0xc001c086
- end -
I also tried to roll my own 2.4.14 kernel, with the same results.
Also, is there a search interface for the mailing list archives? That
would probably save me (and everyone else) a ton of time.
