VGA setting

Hi, I am using the SuSE 7.1 Linux with a Power Mac G3, 128 MB Ram, BootX Version 1.2b3. If I boot into the 2.2.18 Kernel the VGA mode is OK ( like I am used from the MAC side ( 1024*768). If I use the 2.4.2 Kernel ( compiled by myself or the one from the SuSE CD) the VGA mode is wrong ( 640*480). I tried to use the More Kernel argument option on BootX Version 1.2b3 "vga=extended" but there is no reaction. Does anybody have an idea how to set the video mode in the kernel? I somehow got stuck with the SAX2 programm. I dont know if this is the right aproach. Thanks for your help. Alfred Mutscheller(a)T-online.de

Newbie - where are the disks, turbomax 33, twin turbo card

Where are the iso ppc 7.1 disks , my linux friend would like to download them . Also I am on a umax s900, with a twin turbo video and a turbox 33 ide card. So: 1. Where can we download the susx 7.1 ppc( also where to buy them in the USA) 2. Is the twin turbo ide card going to work. There were some notes that you have to recompile the kernal - that is way beyond me at this point. 3. NVIDIA Geforce2 MX 32MB SDRAM video card (new G4s)

Hi, My main box is a new "Quicksilver" 733Mhz G4 (with NVIDIA Geforce2 MX 32MB SDRAM video card as standard hardware). This video card is not supported in SuSE 7.1 PCC.. yet, as far as I know. Does anyone know a Linux PPC version that supports the new G4s' NVIDIA Geforce2 MX graphics cards? Perhaps a graphics card driver I could use with my SuSE 7.1 setup that would support my NVIDA Geforce2 MX graphics card? Video Card Problem Hacked

If anyone cares (and judging by the amount of interest my last email stirred, up, no) I found that a quick hack to the open framebuffer code reactivates my video card in newer kernels. In drivers/video/offb.c, function offb_init_fb, the first 2 lines of code include a test of the video card's memory region to ensure exclusive access. This worked in the 2.4.2 Suse 7.1 kernel, but not in newer kernels like 2.4.14. My quick hack, change if (!request_mem_region(res_start, res_size, "offb")) return; to request_mem_region(res_start, res_size, "offb"); And it works now. Hi, Suse 7.1 will work ok as long as you are in console mode, but not in X (no acceleration, all colors are completely mixed up). However, if you browse through the linuxppc-dev mailing list, you will find patches by Ani Joshi claiming that Nvidia cards are now supported. You need a specific kernel though, plus the nv and riva drivers. However, it does not work yet if you have a flat panel with an ADC connector. The new yellow dog distro (2.1) is supposed to have this feature (Nvidia support through normal vga connector) integrated. Hopefully, the new suse7.3ppc distro (expected to be out any time now) will also incorporate this feature. Another solution is to change the video card to a standard ati one (that are very well supported under linux). RS/6000 43P 150 Questions, Using Suse 7.1

Hello all. I recently changed the job of my rs/6000 from server to workstation. I originally made it a server because I couldn't get it's X working properly, and now I'm stuck trying to fix it again. Anyway, the box has a gxt2000p graphics card. The 2.4.2 kernel supplied with Suse 7.1 works console fine, but starting X gives a mess of mostly black. So, I started researching again. I read in another post that I needed to upgrade to the 2.4.6 kernel. Compiled, booted, froze immediately. More on that in a bit. I then tried the BETA kernel, in the ftp site. Same result (aside from the version number). Here's what the screen shows: - beginning - Welcome to Linux, kernel 2.4.12 linked at : 0xc0000000 frame buffer at : 0xfa800000 (phys), 0xd0800000 (log) klimit : 0xc038c66c MSR : 0x00003030 HID0 : 0xc001c086 - end - I also tried to roll my own 2.4.14 kernel, with the same results. Also, is there a search interface for the mailing list archives? Linux on iSeries Kernel Upgrade

Hi @ll !!! Ich habe gestern versucht bei einem Kunden bei Linux on iSeries einen Kernel-Upgrade zu machen bzw. das neu k_iseries-2.4.3-64.ppc.rpm zu installieren, was natürlich auch gut funktionierte. Als ich den Kernel jedoch aus dem IFS startete bekam ich Fehlermeldungen beim mounten der Disks (die Disks sind virtuell bzw. hosted). Die Fehlermeldung meldete etwas von einem "bad Superblock" und das ich dieses Problem von Hand mit e2fsck beheben bzw. einen alternativen Superblock angeben soll. Zudem stellte ich fest, dass es unter /dev kein Verzeichnis "iseries" gibt. Mache ich etwas falsch oder ist das vieleicht ein Fehler? Ich wäre sehr froh um Antwort!
