Hi Ricardo, The background colors of the cover use the standard colors of openSUSE and therefore if i put the logo without a diferent background color then its not easy recognised. For that reason the plain white gecko is there (it can be a white circle too or something like that if wanted). Hi all, Looking for contributions, suggestions, etc. for the 11.2 launch plan. The skeleton draft is up on the wiki, here: http://en.opensuse.org/Marketing/Team/11_2_Launch Includes timeline, talking points, a place to put collateral, and so on. Ambassadors: Now is the time to start planning launch parties. I hope that every ambassador will be doing something for the 11.2 launch -- whether that's planning a major launch party for a region, or simply planning a small 11.2 get-together or being sure to talk up 11.2 at school, work, etc. Also, we need a more comprehensive list of publications around the world that might be willing to publish information about openSUSE. We have pretty good lists for North America and Europe (or at least parts of Europe) but around the world we could use a lot of help here. If you see other areas where you are willing, able, and interested in helping, please speak up! Like every year, the Software Freedom International, in agreement with Canonical, FSF, Google and others, organize the "Software Freedom Day", an international event where over 500 teams around the world, organizing events and meetings for the dissemination of free software . We of the "Free Software User Group Italia" (Italy) We are preparing an event that will host over 400 high school students. As OpenSuse Ambassador, I would also promote OpenSuse trying to leave some 'material (CDs, stickers, brochures) including the students: there are? and if so, where? Who can I ask? For us it would be very important to have this material. Hi Raul, Not everyone reads Roman alphabets. The Japanese, Arabs and Chinese (like me) may prefer to read in their native language. No point handing out cards in a language the receiver may not understand. Just a thought. Folks, We're getting very close to that time when openSUSE Conference begins. I hope a good number of you will be attending. I'm thinking we should have one or two BoFs focused on the marketing team. One should be focused on the technical stuff (wikis, newsletters, translation teams, etc.) and the other should be on marketing strategy discussions. Is there anyone here who is interested in organizing, leading, co-leading, (whatever) these sessions? Remember, this is a BoF, so they shouldn't be too formal. [opensuse-marketing] How not to market free software

This is less openSUSE specific and more for discussion about the best ways to talk about free and open source software. Let me preface this by saying, I certainly respect the FSF and the work they've done over the years. But they shouldn't be allowed near advertising at any cost. Case in point, the "defective by design" campaign. It's relentlessly negative. It offers few, if any, alternatives. It doesn't consider the perspective of the "average" users who don't view software as an ethical consideration. It's like a PETA campaign, but based around software. I may agree with some of PETA's goals, but their tone and general negativity push me away -- and so does this. The "Windows 7 Sins" that was recently launched is just plain awful. Sorry, I am sure people worked hard on this, and their hearts are in the right place. (Metaphorically speaking. I'm not a cardiologist, so I'm not qualified to judge medically...) http://windows7sins.org/ I bring this up because I think it's important to focus on the positives and benefits of FOSS and openSUSE, not to try to say "use openSUSE because the other guys suck."
