Hello,
Before you ask: I don't have photos, this is something I tend to forget :)
"Linux az Oktatasban" http://lok.hu/ -> Linux in Education conference,
where openSUSE and the Hungarian SUSE office had a common stand. The
SUSE guys demoed their own educational solutions and services, I had a
machine running openSUSE 13.1 RC. It had all the different desktops, and
many people tried KDE, GNOME, XFCE and even E17. I had a few 12.3 DVDs
from SUSE Hungary to hand out and all were gone within half an hour.
13.1 release party: it was this Monday, we were welcomed for a pizza by
the Hungarian SUSE office. We shared our first 13.1 experiences and
talked about many related topics. Personally I actively hate localized
software, but was asked to collect info about the openSUSE localization
process, so will do it later this week.
Future events: this Friday there will be two conferences: SFD (better
late than never...) and Virtualization Day. It's not the best situation,
as I can't be split to two events even if interested in both. I'll
present at SFD and maintain a stand with a demo machine. As 13.1 DVDs
are not yet available I'll hand out our remaining 12.3 DVDs.
Bye,
CzP

Hello folks,
Here in Mauritius we had a busy yet awesome week evangelizing Linux,
openSUSE & FOSS. Firstly we received a last minute approval by the
National Computer Board who sponsored us a conference slot & stand at
the Infotech 2013. This somehow gave us exposure at a national level &
we even got a small interview broadcasted on the national TV.
More about the Infotech can be found on my blog :
http://hacklog.in/infotech-2013-day-4/
Yet after Infotech we had no time to rest for Linuxfest 2013 was at
our doorstep. I advantaged myself with a slot of more that 30 mins
dedicated to openSUSE project ( : We didn't have goodies but I
distributed free copies of openSUSE images to people who brought
pendrives.
See the Linuxfest highlights here : http://hacklog.in/linuxfest-2013-highlights/
I'll share the video footage of the openSUSE presentation as soon as
it is available.
Cheers!

Hello geekos,
It's confirmed I'm doing an openSUSE presentation at the Infotech 2013
conference in Mauritius on Thursday 21st. This coincides perfectly
with the release of openSUSE 13.1 :)

Hello folks,
I got confirmation by the Infotech 2013 team (Mauritius / infotech.mu)
that the National Computer Board is willing to share its booth with
us. That being said we're getting a stand (on Sunday 24th) to demo
openSUSE at a conference that's visited by thousands of Mauritians.
On my side I'll be bringing a couple of posters. Too bad we no more
have the Promo DVDs, one of the reasons why I've emphasized in
empowering the Advocates :P I am however bringing the ISO images to
distribute & a laptop to demo.
On Thursday 21st we've also been allocated a slot for a presentation.
My presentation will comprise of introducing the openSUSE Project &
the Advocate program. Photos & the article will show up on my blog
afterwards.
The new advocates from Mauritius will be around giving a helping hand :)
Cheers!

As you might already know, FOSDEM is one of the biggest events in Europe
on the FOSS calendar. It's normally quite a bit deal for openSUSE, and
we've always tried to make a good splash
In the last few years, I've been the one arranging things like the
Stand, finding folk to help staff it, and coordinating with whoever is
attending FOSDEM from SUSE so we can make a big splash
This year, although I'm hopeful I'll get to go to FOSDEM, I cant commit
to arranging the stand and such as I have in the last few years
So this is your chance, if you're interested in helping out openSUSE
during one of our most important public appearances, please step up and
get the ball rolling, starting with contacting stands(a)fosdem.org as
outlined on their website
https://fosdem.org/2014/news/2013-09-17-call-for-participation-part-two/
We only have a week to our request for a stand in, so please, don't
delay
To whoever steps up, I'll do whatever I can to help, including sharing
some tips & tricks from a veteran (eg. be prepared for a great time with
too little sleep...and it's probably a good idea to be prepared for
spilt beer behind the booth)
Thanks for helping out :)

Hello folks,
It's with pleasure that I welcome 3 new Advocates evangelizing the
awesomeness of openSUSE in Mauritius.
Avinash Mayaram : http://en.opensuse.org/User:Aimayaram
Nitin J Mutkawoa : http://en.opensuse.org/User:Nitinmutkawoa
Yuram Venkatiah : http://en.opensuse.org/User:Yuram_07
They have been active for the past few months, attending &
contributing through the weekly Linux meetups.
I introduced the openSUSE Advocate Program to the local geeks a few
months back : http://hacklog.in/linux-user-group-of-mauritius-meetup-17-08-2013/
I am also planning a presentation during the upcoming Linux Festival :
http://linuxfest.lugm.org/
I've met many university students with creative skills. Hopefully,
after the Linux Festival we can expect more Mauritian geekos joining
the crew :)

Hi everybody! My name is Álvaro, I'm 19 years old and I am living
actually on Lanzarote one of Canary Islands, however I was born on
Jerez de la Frontera (South of Spanish mainland). I am newbie on
openSUSE. From child always I liked computer science or all related
topics. When I could. I touch a computer always to search files,
install games and more.
As time passed, I started learning how to use computer alone,
operative system and more. I tried Ubuntu as my first Linux distro
into 7.10 version. After I installed Debian Lenny (testing) version
some months to ago. I saw about Fedora but some people said that was
very difficult to use. Anyway was my third Linux distro with Fedora 10
with GNOME. More months too late, I switched into FreeBSD with 7, but
some weeks ago, I came back to Linux with Fedora 11 called Leonidas's
KDE. Really was very good distro.
I returned the borrowed Portable I hope to end my high school classes
and installed FreeBSD 8 and 9-CURRENT version on my old desktop AMD
Athlon 64 6000. Was very awesome to use FreeBSD Ports Collections,
setting your options in your software.
After, I tried Gentoo and Slackware. Gentoo seems FreeBSD but with
Linux. I had learnt to compile a Linux kernel on it. My first kernel
built with CFLAGS and CXXFLAGS defined into make.conf. Was very
awesome compile software optimized for your processor and learn how to
"carry out" seems build a "LFS".
Anyway, I came back to Fedora 16 and still continues 17, 18 and 19.
After, I switched into Mageia 1-2 months and latest Linux I used it's
openSUSE 12.3. I hope stay here a long time as Fedora :)
I hope help openSUSE project to get to know better do presentations,
workshops, helping forums and more.
Any messages, please contact me without any troubles! :D
Greetings!

Heya,
Could you write something about AD in https://en.opensuse.org/Features_13.1 -
and ping me so I can make sure we talk about it in the Top Features section
on https://en.opensuse.org/Portal:13.1/Features ;-)
Be as verbose as you can be, both pointing to the technical side as well as
end user benefits and what users will notice... I'll happily shorten it, I
can't make up more details :D
Hugs,
J
