Hi all,
April 16-17 in Antwerp, Belgium, the Linux Open Administration Days will
take place. This free event offers a chance for LPI certification as
well as meeting and talking to linux sysadmins. There is a call for
presentations here: http://www.loadays.org/content/call-presentations
If you want to go and give a talk there about openSUSE tech - that's be
awesome. If you can't afford to go there due to travel or hotel costs,
let me know, we might be able to work something out ;-)
cheers,
Jos
Hi Andreas,
I already added the posters here:
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Artwork_miscellaneous
I could add the slides to
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Presentations, but I don't think
they're fit for presentations because they've got too much text on
them, which takes away a lot of attention from the speaker. I modeled
them to be the sort of slides that you might take a look at when
you're passing by a booth. That's my opinion - of course you're free
to use them how you want. :-)
Cheers,
Pieter

Hello everyone,
I was wondering if you had any marketing material specifically
targeting the release, say posters saying "openSUSE 11.4 arriving,
March 10" or something even more general, like openSUSE 11.4 artwork,
that could be used to signal the onset. I would really appreciate a
link.
Also I'll take this chance to ask again if anyone has a link to the
11.4 promoDVD or normal DVD label. I seriously need to get some
printed asap.
Thanks,
~kknundy.

Hi all,
Despite not reading all mails here, I have a request.
The USA office in Provo is out of posters & flyers and that kind of
stuff. Now we still have them in the EU, but shipping paper across the
pond is quite insane. Yet having these materials is important: we ship
them to our ambassadors, together with the DVD's so they can have a good
presence at conferences!
So I found some money in my budget - enough for a nice number of
posters, flyers, postcards & whatever you think will be helpful.
But I don't have time to scavenge our git repository and wiki for
appropriate material. Moreover, much of it is outdated. So. If you want
to help our ambassadors, now is the time to step up.
I simply need a list of artwork to print:
- a (link to) a BIG poster design or two to print, appropriate for a
wide audience at conferences. Can be an existing poster, can be a new
one - I don't care.
- one or more (links to) smaller posters. I think the "suse is cool"
series made for SCALE would be good enough for this, maybe some
improvements are possible or needed?!?
- (links to) folders. We have one but it ain't that good. I would
suggest to finish the folders on
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Marketing_materials - ping me on IRC, I
want to help with them! They will need design (Carlos, Javier, Bruno,
Helen?). Need to be an a4 or Letter (preferably both) with 2-side
printing. You could make a triple-fold or double-fold, I don't care :D
- (links to) postcards, sticker designs, button designs, other things.
- and whatever you think should be in the boxes. I know several of you
have been thinking about that, so now is the time to step up and make
sure I can add those things to the boxes!
I will then see how much I can afford for each of those. A hard
requirement: it has all to be online with sources somewhere!!! And I
will probably have to ask the artists who made the final design to work
with the AJ & me and the printing company as most printing companies
don't have Scribus or Inkscape :D
And a second hard requirement: I mailed earlier that I have a hard time
keeping up with the list. So I need someone to mail me the things I ask
for around april 8-9 ;-)
So, who steps up to relay me the results? Bryen, seems like your thing?
Cheers and thanks,
Jos
Hey marketing team,
Based on our IRC discussion yesterday a more extensive proposal,
connected to the mail I just send to the boosters with you in CC:
Our ambassadors are often local (many don't even speak English, or
barely); so what we do with/for them has to be translatable, easy to
read or in their hands. They often spend not a huge amount of time on
openSUSE; so what we do for/with them should not take much time. And the
fact they are ambassador gives them some credibility; so we should make
that clear.
Currently, we have an ambassador mailinglist. Some ambassadors are on
there; many are not (like most of the active people in Brazil or Greece
- despite those countries being among the most active for us, as far as
we know). They usually have a local mailinglist (not on openSUSE
infrastructure) which they use for planning and discussing.
First, I would like to propose to bring such mailinglists to openSUSE
infrastructure. That means - let ambassadors ask for a language/region
specific mailinglist. Not too many rules, if they feel they need one for
something, give it. But there should be one limitation: at least one or
two active people on that list should be on the international ambassador
mailinglist; and we need a one-way, moderated mailinglist to reach ALL
ambassador lists at once for things that concern everybody.
Second, let them create a localized ambassador team page on the wiki (or
on connect.opensuse.org, dunno what makes most sense). Actually, it'd be
great if they had an English page which is translated - so each team
(the Greek team, Brazil team etc) has a page on the wiki; and it is
translated in their language(s). They can have links there to the
mailinglist and the forum place they hang out, as well as their IRC
channel(s).
This will allow countries/regions to build their own team. Yet, due to
the requirement of having 1-2 ppl on the international list, we are
connected.
Now we need to make sure there is communication as much as possible. The
ambassadors should get the word out on what they do - that's what the
ambassador report stuff is for, which I mailed to the Boosters team. I
hope we can make that happen.
Cheers,
Jos
Dear friends,
We have an interesting opportunity before us to communicate to people who
might not be fans of or very much aware of openSUSE. Novell is setting up a
mailinglist system for SUSE Studio. Users of Studio are categorized in ISV,
individual user, corporate user and open source project. Now the second and
last categories we could spam once a month or so with something like a
newsletter talking about openSUSE. Just an idea of course, we could also send
them daily viagra mail but I bet they'll block SUSE Studio mail if we do that
:D
Now we can discuss the usual riff-raff of ideas. I can think of a few myself -
as usual, ideas are cheap. It's the work that counts. So let me introduce,
just for this discussion, an interesting rule: if you add an idea, that means
you are willing to do it. For example, if person X will say "we could do a
monthly newsletter" that means that person X is willing and committed to do
it. Or doesn't share the idea.
NOW let's see how many ideas there are ;-)
Cheers,
Jos

much work on his plate to be able to sit back and relax or sleep, meh meh meh)
Hi All
I know it is abrupt but I need some help
Have a look at this http://suseware.com/trial/extended.php
I will like all of us to apply our minds to get a set of images that can
work as a slide show instead of the 11.2 box..
Also, please check the links below.. see if something is missing
I know I have to add twitter, identica and facebook
Thanks a lot
Regards
Manu

Greetings friends, I've been working in a small poster for the 11.4
launch party for our city Guatemala, and this is what I have:
http://en.opensuse.org/File:Launch_party_guatemala.png
It's based on the openSUSE posters background and made in Inkscape.
I'm not quite shure if it's okay to use the geeko and yastie image
like that... but if you are interested I can give you a printable
version for your local launch parties with your information in it.
Just email me at feranto(a)opensuse.org.gt . The poster is very
straightforward so just bring me the following details, translated to
your languages:
-Place : <Your launch party location>
-Date: <The date and time of your launch party>
-Activities: <The activities you will be hosting>
-Your LUG website
