Hello! I'm John and I am having a Beta Pizza party on October 17th,
and I was wondering if I could get promo items (Shirts, stickers, CD's
etc.) from you all?
I am having about 8 to 10 people attending. It's small but I would
really like to show every one openSUSE!
Thanks.

Dear all,
today we've had our first IRC meeting regarding the organization of
openSUSE Conference 2015 (in The Hague NL on 1-4th of may 2015)!
Minutes of that meeting can be found here:
http://community.opensuse.org/meetings/opensuse-project/2014/opensuse-proje…
One of our highest priorities at the moment is the creation of artwork
(logo's and website theming) and composing announcements to raise
awareness about the conference.
We hope that we can stand on the shoulders of the Geeko giants and
re-use what has already been used (and worked) in the past and create
what isnt there yet.
So here is some general info and trivia about The Hague and The
Netherlands that might be of use in creating the materials needed:
- Official flag colors NL: Red - White - Blue in horizontal stripes
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_the_Netherlands )
- Official logo of the city of The Hague:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coat_of_arms_of_The_Hague
- Semi official sign for the city of The Hague is the Stork bird
- Colors of The Hague are green (Yay!) and yellow:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Den_Haag#mediaviewer/File:Flag_of_The_Hague.svg
Of course The Netherlands are famous for their:
- cheese
- windmills
- wooden shoes
- the fact that most of our country is well below sea level
- the Delta works
- cows and farming in general
- the best soccer team in the world that has not ever (yet!) been
worldchampion
- throwing awesome conferences
- and more cheese
Hopefully this will provide some inspiration!
Regarding the marketing announcements, i will contact warlordfff
separately and get back on this later.
If we are going at this the wrong way, then please tell us so we can get
up to speed with the openSUSE way of doing things!
Best regards!
Hans de Raad

Hey guys.
First of all, let me apologise for being absent for so long, but i was finishing up my bachelor's thesis, and am official a BA in Literature now. I'm entering the master's lit studies in october. So that's that. I'm back and eager :)
So, considering the results of the survey, what are your thoughts on the news site? What I've seen is many people wanting to switch to a more OMGish format, while also wanting power-user topics and tutorials. Now, I'm fine with the second part, but for that, we need a power user to write the news. Maybe I should create a call for newsmen for specifically power-user topics (they could write also about whatever else they want, of course, it's openSUSE :D)? Do you agree on that?
And anyway, I've been just trying to feel the pulse a little, to see what you guys think about the state of the news.
Kindest regards to all you geekos!

To the openSUSE marketing team,
The Linux Users Group at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) will be
hosting a variety of Linux-related events and participating in showcases during
the upcoming school year, and would like to distribute openSUSE promotional
media to students and other attendees. We appreciate the openSUSE 12.3 DVDs you
provided us last year, which we were able to distribute and use. Would openSUSE
marketing be interested in providing some newer CD/DVDs or other promotional
material?
Thanks,
Vincent Wong

Hello,
As I just received the booth kit, I used it for the local "forum des
associations" of my Linux users group location, just here:
http://www.openstreetmap.org/#map=19/43.55000/1.48364
but being local, this meeting is much crowded, it's the place where, each
year, local non profit organizations share they activities. Probably more than
2000 people visited the meeting on this afternoon (September 6, 2014, today).
The most visible part of the booth kit is the table cover, specially here
where everybody was given a yellow paper cover, so our green was the only one
or nearly :-)
http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/103961-img_20140906_140832/category/5…
The small whiteboard set on the table, visible on the photo, is a $5 one found
at the next paper store, recommended. Here I didn't show all the openSUSE
stuff, because it was not an openSUSE booth but my LUG one :-).
But there was lot of sticker (including keyboard key stickers (to cover the
infamous "windows" keys :-). usk flah keys where much appreciated, but it's a
shame that they didn't hold openSUSE live dvd (it's a bit long to write them -
approx 10mn each)
I also had from my own collection a geecko buddy (plush), and a penguin cd
holder :-)
http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/103962-img_20140906_140839/category/5…
Here the green among yellow color:
http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/103963-img_20140906_140851/category/5…
notice the "CULTe" banner, my LUG's. I have the same for openSUSE but couldn't
fit it atm. Notice such a banner is only $25 and extremely visible - recommended.
I could take these photos before the crowd come, but I couldn't show the green
vest (like the road workers yellow ones), because I weared it and had nobody
to take a photo of me :-(.
Here the boot when people come:
http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/103964-img_20140906_152058/category/5…
We had a reasonable success for such meeting, around 30 people asked
questions, on this I know that around 5 to 10 will come later at local meetings.
What can be noticed is that we had a 15 years old visitor (that chatted with
me all along the summer), and that we have since some years more and more
women on the attendance, on this afternoon, 3 women for one man :-)
next meeting, the "capitole du libre" 2014 (http://2014.capitoledulibre.org/),
our booth last year:
http://dodin.info/piwigo/picture.php?/100833-img_20131123_124033_30141/sear…
of course this one is free software oriented so the audience is much more
familiar :-).
If you know of free software meeting not too far from my town (Toulouse), or
willing to help me come (with money), let me know, I'm ready to move a bit.
