Hi boosters, The marketing team has been brainstorming on how to give ambassadors a tad more attention in openSUSE; motivate them to make a bit more noise; and reward them for what they do. Now we have a few ideas, but for one, we thought it might make sense to use connect. Yes, it could probably be done via the wiki and other ways but I know you guys have a hammer and might see this as a nail :D *what is the problem* the ambassadors _sometimes_ create event reports. We want those reports for several reasons: - to have an idea of what they are doing - to measure how much we do - to motivate others - to SHOW what we do Unfortunately, not so many event reports are made although we're fairly sure many events have openSUSE attendance. This is due to several issues. *First*, not all ambassadors are so connected to us - many are not 'official ambassador' or their English skills are minimal and they are not internationally involved. I will send a follow-up mail with ideas on how to solve that. *Second*, filling in an event report on the wiki is not exactly easy for many. Some send one by mail - which is fine but leaves little record. *Third*, the reports receive little visibility. They are mentioned somewhere in the weekly news if you're lucky and of course on the marketing ML, but that's it pretty much. Numbers in it are not saved, we don't realy do anything with it as there is no real easy record. *The solution?* Ideally, the reports would end up in a central place, some database... And ideally, they would be connected to the ambassadors - so they can build up a trackrecord of events they have visited. Once we have this we can also show reports on eg news.o.o in a feed box on the side for example, or on our homepage. We can analyze and use statistics (for promo), promote events, do monthly articles - all kinds of things. We have an events page on en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Ambassador_events which suffers from similar issues - most people don't create a page because it is not easy and not localized. *connect.o.o* In short. We wonder - would Connect not offer a much better way of handeling events, event reports and the like? Would it not offer a better place for ambassador user accounts (with associated event reports as track records)? Culd it offer an easy place for ambassadors to add info for an event and afterwards add a report & pictures which we can then display in the planet feed (localized, if needed)? In case you think this is relevant, chuck and manu might have some time to help with this both in 'how to do it' (I would also love to think abou that) and the doing itself. Cheers, Jos

Alright sorry for the delay. I wrote up a post for the tourism stuff[1]. I think it would be better to keep the tourism and food/shopping separate as the post ended up being quite long. Also I should point out, I want to add pictures of the locations/google maps to the post as needed but pastebin doesn’t allow images :) Let me know what you all think. [opensuse-marketing] Software.opensuse.org Currently Down

You guys probably already know this but the software.opensuse.org site has been down for some time now. By "down" I mean you can browse to the site but you can't do any searches. I understand that the openSUSE board is aware of this and seeking a solution. Thanks a lot Victor!!! This is a call for help The openSUSE Asia Summit team is looking for volunteers as well. We need people who can 1. come up with ideas for articles 2. write articles 3. review them. and also improve existing ones for the next year. If people are interested, I will start a separate thread for this discussion. [opensuse-marketing] Report on SFD 25th June, 2016.

Greetings from NUI, Normandy. The 25th June was the last of the season SFD before the huge Regional gathering hosted by the city of Rouen on 10th September, then International SFD 17th September. The weather was depressing, it was the first Saturday of Summer, but no sun at all…Anyway with openSUSE, we usually have fun without the sun, right! When doors opened, we normally have a massive crowd that gives a hint of the day. This time, despite the usual tam-tam/powwow, smoke signals, whatever it was us and us. I started to think, either everything was working fine or there was no interest in Linux (in general). I therefore checked what activities were going on in other clubs, Chess, zumba, cooking, yoga, miniatures, bridge and they were experiencing same sort of attendance. Then miracles started to happen. A corporate admin needed a few tweats (Bluetooth), firefox issues etc. arrived on his motorbike, then came, our Greek lady with libreoffice files issues. A lady had lost her password. An old acquaintance monopolized me for more than one hour with Adobe issues. A visitor wanted collaborative software for NGOs in Africa. I had in the past installed a software for sharing documents, chat, organize meetings and I did not see any of us flying in Africa to maintain free software in countries at war of that can start war for silly reasons…. But I offered to train him. I also pointed him to open365.org The teacher came to check latest tricks, I had a couple who thought that we were running a cybercafé and needed to check their emails. I had someone to chaperon them, just in case. Mind you, a gentleman walked in at around 18:00 and wanted to check his email too. Maybe I should put a sign outside: Free Internet! Two engineers (Ex coworkers at ENGIE) came especially from Paris to check SUSE. One of them brought his 5 year old daughter and 10 years son, those two I will not count. Anyway, we gave out something like 9 visiting cards to curious people passing by and wanted to know what we were doing and received firm promises of visiting next academic year. i;e; September next. I also had a guy walking in and looking around at the screens and when I stood up to go and greet him, he sort of sped up his pace and went out. Including the last strange visitor, we had only 22 visitors, not our best attendance. I will put this down on Euro 2016. Portugal / Croatia playing that evening. I will start marketing September events this month. We also have our dates up to December 2016.
