Heya,
I'm really happy to see Manu started to talk about the 12.3 promo and Rajko
even went as far as to prepare the Portal. There's a lot of work to do, we
all know.
Luckily, we have the marketing Hackaton coming. To make sure we have things
to work on, it's a good idea to prepare that meeting. I've made a bit of an
agenda with the main things: the announcement and feature page (part of the
Portal!), social media and the ambassador program.
Things are still missing - the flyer for example can use some design
improvements before we print a batch of 10.000 ;-)
I have not created a wiki page for this as we have some todo lists - which
we can go over on the first day of the hackaton.
Some:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Launch_checklisthttps://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Public_release_action_planhttps://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Marketing_jobs
Cleaning those up, preparing for the release etc is something we can already
start on, as well as during the meeting.
But I would like input on the agenda draft I made for the hackaton:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:12.3_marketing_hackaton#Agenda
Maybe we can also look at the agenda of our previous meetings:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:12.1_Marketing_Hackfesthttps://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:11.4_Marketing_Hackfest
Let me know what you think and fix what you see is wrong :D
Hugs,
Jos
Heya,
I've made a rather detailed schedule:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:12.3_marketing_hackathon#Schedule_proposal
Please look over it. There are a few meetings and other specific things in
there that need to happen, some things are still open. The rooms are also
appointed so if you want to make changes, note that the room configuration
might make it hard/impossible to do so!
Feedback and additions still welcome, how are the lists of tasks coming?
Cheers,
Jos

Awesome.
How about a quick article for news.o.o about the available artwork to
promote the release? Anyone willing to whip something up?

Heya,
Just a heads-up:
Will and myself are working on an article about the hackfest last weekend
which should go live today. Tomorrow I scheduled the openSUSE conference
wrap-up and for Thursday the openSUSE 12.2 release wrap-up. I'm trying to
write about FOSDEM and openSUSE on the Samsung Series 3 ARM Chromebook next
week.
Meanwhile, the OBS is getting close to 40.000 repositories and 200.000
packages!!! It would be cool to do an article on that in the coming
weeks/months (when we reach the threshold). It could have a bit of history
and where we are now, with quotes from a few of the involved people. Anyone
interested in doing this? I know Helen is real good at articles like this...
??
We'd give it some decent exposure, do a press release on it etc - OBS
deserves some fresh attention.
Hugs,
Jos
Hello,
I got an idea after many Raspberry Pi projects I saw so far.
Unfortunately I don't know how to make it. Maybe someone can do it.
Well, the idea is to create a box (any shape is OK with openSUSE artwork).
Inside this box will have a raspberry pi (or any other cheap ARM machine).
Save GNOME and KDE isos on SD card.
Have 2 buttons connected on the GPIO on Pi.
When you plug in the USB and press the GNOME button, the machine will
run the dd command and create GNOME Live USB.
Take care,
Stathis

Hi all!
>From Saturday 12th to Sunday 13th January 2013 has took place our
second partecipation to Cerea's fair (VR) in Italy. I and other
members of FSUGItalia have participated at the fair in Cerea (Verona)
presenting openSUSE to the public.
We must start by saying that, as in the past edition, the fair has
been a great success, big participation and queues with about 20000
visitors.
The organization of the fair has given us a great place, a six linear
meters booth in front of the main entrance!
We have set up the stand with 6 notebooks, 3 netbooks, 1 "ST SPEAr320
evaluation board" and 1 "ST-Ericsson Snowball board" equipped with
openSUSE 12.2 configured with different desktop manager.
A large number of people came to ask us about what openSUSE is. The
computers exhibited have attracted the attention of passers, that, in
many cases, were familiar only to Ubuntu.
Most frequent question was inherent to the differences between Ubuntu
and openSUSE and what are the advantages of this second operating
system.
An event with such a big audience is definitely challenging and very
tiring but we have got a great success that has rewarded us for all
the efforts made to achieve this participation. The enthusiasm and
interest of the people involved also the organizers, that have
proposed to participate to the next edition of this fair.
Here http://denebinside.wordpress.com/2013/01/23/report-fiera-di-cerea-2013/
you can find the report (Italian/English) of Cerea's Fair (Italy).
Other useful informations are reachable here:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Cerea_Fair_2013
We are editing a video and uploading a photo gallery; as soon as
possible all the materials will be online.
Regards,
deneb

Hello,
Yesterday we had the first openSUSE beer event here in Budapest. There
were a couple of developers and users and as a surprise guest, even a
senior manager from the local Novell/SuSE office joined us. It was a
very nice and interesting evening, mostly getting known each other, but
of course also talking about openSUSE.
One of the topics we discussed was why the active part of the Hungarian
openSUSE community is so small, especially as there were a lot more
active people 5-6 years ago. At conferences and even at the beer event
I'm the only one wearing an openSUSE T-shirt. It would be great, if we
could have T-shirts to have a lot more visibility at events where we go.
Question: is it possible to order a bunch of T-shirts, so the core of
the Hungarian openSUSE community could wear it at different conferences
and events? I think, about 15-20 T-shirts would cover most of the active
people. We plan a release party right after 12.3 is released, and would
be great if I could hand out the T-shirts at this event.
I'll be at FOSDEM, so instead of using the post office, I could pick
them up there and fly them to Hungary.
Bye,
CzP
