[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. No Login, no Graphics after update to Tumbleweed 20230211-0

Hello, after the update the screen only shows a '-'. All the usual other tty screens that you get with e.g. STRG-ALT-F1 are also gone. I can connect to the PC via ssh from my Ubuntu Laptop and check what is going on. I am using an old GTX 570 on that PC. Previously when the G06 stuff was installed instead of updating the needed G04 stuff, I was able to install NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-390.157.run manually and the login and XFCE worked. But now even that fails. :-( Any pointers? Is that the beginning of the things that are named in Subject "Nvidia 390x driver users - glibc 2.37 will bring bad news" ? Creating a new user for a deamon

Devs, mailx is a fantastic command line mailer, but the version for 15.4 is more than a DECADE out of date, e.g. $ mailx -V 12.5 7/5/10 Uhhh, that's July 2010 folks? Why are we not using the s-nail package which still enjoys active development? Finding recent work directories

Since I often get side-tracked and forget what I was doing, I wrote a script to find directories with recent (or otherwise selected) files in them. That makes a better list than sorting directories by their own modification times. This script, 'finddirs_by_latest_file', allows to restrict the search with extra find expression terms, but I usually just run the second script below, 'fblf100', which invokes finddirs_by_latest_file to make two lists; for the latest 5 and 100 days (or whatever time periods given). Excuse all the script boilerplate. A little bit weird - /etc/resolv.conf is not being populated

>From the mythv thread - I have just repeated this issue, on Leap 15.1. (I know its EOL, but I don't have a choice). a) after rebuilding the initrd, the first boot - just the standard template in /etc/resolv.conf, no nameserver. firewalld is running. b) 2nd reboot, no changes. Still an empty /etc/resolv.conf. The wicked lease information is from last night. c) stopped and disabled firewalld, 3rd reboot. Now the lease info was updated and so was /etc/resolv.conf. Weird stuff. d) enabled firewalld and rebooted. Empty /etc/resolv.conf. I would try this out on 15.4 and 15.5, but NFS installations don't work. I guess I could do a zypper dup. Anyone have any suggestion as to how or why firewalld might interfere with the populating of /etc/resolv.conf ?? I keep getting: mythbe2:/etc/systemd/system # systemctl start mythbackend Failed to start mythbackend.service: Unit mysql.service not found. Excellent printer compatibility: Brother MFC-L3770CDW

Since a lot of users come and ask advice on printers, having found one working really well with Leap and TW, I wanted to share this experience about a multifunction printer with print/scan/fax function. The Brother MFC-L3770CDW has an automatized feed, double sided copying/fax and is fitting for mid size volumes (small home office, club, smaller organizations). The volume is limited by the price of the cartridges, for high volume there are better solutions. TW / Leap: very good compatibility with the driver installation following the following howto of opensuse: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Brother_How_to_setup_a_Networked_Printer_Scanner The machine performs extremely well and if you own a voip to isdn gateway you can also use it as a well working fax offering standard/fine/superfine/foto . Within the selection of scanners the multfunction printer is visible with all features, printer and fax also. This is true for Leap 15.4 and TW. So if you need a LED printer with excellent print quality, colour and b/w as well as automated feed, scan of multiple also double side pages and compatible to a 100 % as it seems with your opensuse machines, this is my advice. The only drawbacks are a slightly higher price for cartridges than e.g. some Lexmark and a slightly lower speed for doublesided scan jobs. As these run without your presence (at least if the pages do not have a paper jam) the latter point should be negligible for private and SOHO users. The printer/scanner has also a normal "scanner" field for use with oversized or rigid document. I would not recommend it for photos where, at least for me, a nice flatbed scanner is till the best high resolution solution. I hope this is the right group for such a message and that I do not cause high blood pressure to some, for the terrible loss of bits and bites. I think this happened when I updated from Leapt 15.4 to 15.5. I used to be able to click and hold the left button to copy text and press middle button (scroll wheel) to paste. This is on XFCE. I find plenty of pages telling how to disable this and the middle button emulation on 2 button mice but not how to enable on a 3 button mouse. TIA, Jeffrey

Hi, I have a Tumbleweed system which makes a backup each night to a Leap 15.4 system, both use aarch64 architecture. I use publickey for authentication, which worked until recently. Both are up-to-date with the latest updates. On the Tumbleweed system I have: # ls -l .ssh/id_* -rw------- 1 root root 1381 21 feb 12:34 .ssh/id_dsa -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 608 21 feb 12:34 .ssh/id_dsa.pub On the Leap 15.4 system I have: rpi4-154:~ # ls -l .ssh/authorized_keys -rw------- 1 root root 2962 feb 21 12:39 .ssh/authorized_keys with the content of id_dsa.pub. The start of the content is: ssh-dss AAAAB3NzaC1kc3MAAACBAIxtorhRWGDeP6L01o83+LgSL9DYcYAXozXtl1cknkfbO To test the way the connection is made I give the command: ssh -v -p xx root@<leap_14.4> Which gives me debug output. Apart from my own fat fingers, the pxe install of 15.5 is going well. currently less than 200 of 900 packages left. context - pxe+ssh install, from local mirror, root+home filesystem is jfs. Okay, all done before I finished typing. Slightly exotic - I'm trying to boot with lilo, and I can't even run lilo. "No such file or directory". paste.o.o no longer remembers fields, instead uses comic names?

All, The paste.opensuse.org interface changed and now the fields are no longer remembered between pastes and the "Recents" page does not show my recent pastes, but instead shows pastes beginning 2 months ago (presuming when the new paste backend started). The old paste site would remember your name and last title -- which was very convenient and likely resulted from the old site using normal forms/fields. The old "Recents" page would also reflect my pastes instantly -- mandatory for times I would click off the page and needed to find the paste URL again. A listing of 2+ month old pastes isn't very useful. The new site seems to be some containerized jumbled together ruby-on-rails site. Tumbleweed: can't log into display server

Hello, System OpenSUSE Tumbleweed x86_64 latest version NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti using the latest driver installed the hard way. After a hard crash of the system I can't log into the graphical server anymore. I don't know if this is relevant but after the crash I loged into W10 to restore the NTFS partition (shared use with Tumbleweed) and I did W10 updates and a bios update. I then try to reboot into Tumbleweed but I ended up with a prompt. startx returns me xauth: file /root/.serverauth.2222 dos not exist xauth: (argv):1: bad dispaly name "dell-desk:0" in list command xauth: (stdin):1: bad display name "dell-deskt:0" in "add" command ... .. (EE)VGA Arbitration: Cannot restore default device. Hello there, i'm running opensuse leap 15.4 recently installed roundcube 1.5.3 (LTS) via Yast. out of curiosity I did a composer update --dry-run in the roundcubemail install directory composer showed me quite some available updates. see below Should I do the composer update? Or should I just leave things like it is? And wait for opensuse to push a new roundcube rpm update if necessary? I'm worried that running the composer update will break things with roundcube? On the other side I see quite a lot of available updates? RAM requirements Podman/containers versus KVM

Long ago I started running VM's with XEN. At that time each VM (I think) used its own copy of the kernel and related resources. I could only run a few VM's before I ran out of RAM. Because of that I ran lots of services in the same VM. Enter KVM, then my VM's shared a kernel and my RAM requirements fell. Now I run only one major service (DNS, database, etc) in each VM. Now along comes Podman and containers. If I move to running each service in its only container what does that do to my RAM (and CPU) requirements. How many copies of the kernel and its resource will I be running? I think maybe I can use the host's kernel in a container or use a different one. I am less concerned about disk space usage, but can I share some part of the root file system between containers? Can someone tell me where to find a discussion of this?? Thanks. Bill

Had been using offlineimap to automate feeding/teaching BAYES for spasmsassin. Seems to have "gone missing". Trying to reinstall, from tarball. Seems to have worked, but, it did not install as the author claimed by invoking "zypper in offlineimap" Told me myserver:~ # zypper in offlineimap Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... 'offlineimap' not found in package names. Trying capabilities. No provider of 'offlineimap' found. Resolving package dependencies... Nothing to do. So I compiled and ran it resulting in from offlineimap import imaputil, imaplibutil, OfflineImapError File "/usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/offlineimap/imaplibutil.py", line 22, in <module> import rfc6555 ImportError: No module named rfc6555 Anyone using it and have enlightenment?

Nvidia 390x driver users - glibc 2.37 will bring bad news

Nvidia 390x driver users, Hopefully the opensuse dev wizards can pull a rabbit out of their proverbial hats before glibc 2.37 drops. Otherwise things look very grim for all cards that rely on the driver. Short version - Nvidia only provided updates for the 390x driver through the end of 2022. The issue is the binary parts supplied with the nvidia driver and the parts you manually compile must be build with the same glibc versions. With Nvidia no longer providing updates to the binary parts -- glibc version drift is a foregone eventuality. PHP-FPM and php.ini include_path mystery

Dear opensuse list users, I already sent this email to the horde users mailing list. But I just thought that opensuse list might for sure also be a good place to perhaps receive some hints or insights on this topic. I'm running an opensuse 15.4 box with PHP-FPM 7.4.33 (yes I know it's EOL) Horde is 5.2.23 with IMP 6.2.27 PEAR Horde is installed at /usr/share/php7/PEAR/ php.ini sets the include path = ".:/usr/share/php7:/usr/share/php7/PEAR" as far as I know the delimiter : separates the different include paths so I have 3 paths . the current directoy /usr/share/php7 /usr/share/php7/PEAR and from what I remember PHP automatically tries to look for included files in all those 3 include paths. PHP looks first in the current directory for the file. Then the second path /usr/share/php7 and after that the third path /usr/share/php7/PEAR If I run Horde & IMP with the default php.ini include path I receive a Fatal Error Class 'PEAR_Config' not found If I then set a different path order via php-fpm pool configuration the fatal error is gone I move the PEAR path before the php7 path php_value[include_path] = ".:/usr/share/php7/PEAR:/usr/share/php7" But I still don't get it. Isn't PHP supposed to look at all given include_path one after the other? If anyone could share some insights I would be more than grateful 😄 thanks & greeetings Becki

Problem with zypper dup that sometimes have hick-ups with two conflicting Mesa versions available. Why is there a MESA version in the packman repos if opensuse provides one too? To be clear I am talking about the Tumbleweed repos. I recall some graphic card reason, but it is a recall that comes remotely and long time ago. So since this recently caused me some trouble because of shifting repo here and there I wanted to understand. Someone can maybe educate me on this. I do not think that patent rights can be an issue here. I just have to decide which Mesa should I use and I do not have any base for discrimination between the two. Thank you in advance. transmission quits

Hi all, I use Transmission to handle torrent files (in KDE, TW). Today I had a big "zypper dup", nearly 500 items were downloaded. After restart Transmission unexpectedly quits after a few seconds. Ktorrent is dead, I cannot even import an existing torrent file into it. I tried it also in Xfce, with the same result. Interestingly, in IceWM Transmission does not exit. Please help me identify the reason . I saw during dup some files were removed. So I uninstalled and reinstalled Transmission, without any positive result. Thanks for your help, Albert

Hi, as is my routine for years, but today on a secondary computer (alternate location), I open a folder of documents in "mc", select the february.odt file, hit enter, and start editing. Damn! They have changed how to position photos, no anchor to page. Must be a new Libre Office Writer version. After wasting a quarter of an hour fighting how the thing thinks it should place the images, instead of simply obeying me, I decide to ask here. What version am I using... go to help, look about... it is Abiword! Why the heck is 'mc' opening a LO file with Abiword when LO is installed? I look in 'mc', do not find .odt in the extension file... so unininstall Abiword. Get out of my way. But now on open the document it Maximizes to the entire display, and refuses to unmaximize and resize. I can do so with Calc, but not with Writer. The word "resize" is greyed out even after "unmaximize". How the heck can I unmaximize the document? I can not work this way! Ok, go to XFCE settings, change the theme to some other one, and now it works again. But a while later, I open another document with Write, and again it is stuck on maximize, and theme change does not work this time. A new manner occurs to me. Click and hold on the tittle bar and drag down... and it is gone. I can not find the window. I right-click on the "thing" on the display panel, and manage to tell it to move to an empty workspace. Now I see the window: 2 mm wide, 30 mm high rectangle. WTF!? After fiddling with it for a minute or two, I manage to resize it to something sensible and move back to my workspace. Hi, I am running OpenSuSE 15.3 and 15.4 with the KDE/Plasma desktop. My eyes are not as good as they once were, and one of the things that bugs me a lot is the I bar cursor (also called the I beam cursor I think) Is there any way to get rid of it and substitute the regular arrow cursor for it? I don't see the I cursor very well and am constantly losing track of it, requiring lots of mouse movements before I find it again. Marc...

CIFS and sym links

If I create a link on a Windows NTFS disk (on Windows via mklink /d), that link shows up correctly on Linux when the disk is mounted via CIFS. For example: l--------- 1 rst root 0 Feb 2 10:41 ProgramFiles -> Program Files I can follow the link as expected. That's nice. However, if try to create a sym link on Linux (ln -s) on that CIFS volume, I get: ln: failed to create symbolic link 'qq': Operation not supported Is it truly not supported? Or is it some option I need to learn about that enables this? I have not checked how a Linux disk mounted in Windows acts in this respect. That's a later exploration. -- Roger Oberholtzer

After upgrading my TW test system last night, it failed to mount the root filesystem. This morning I wanted to start up the TW installer to investigate. Looking into installing a "caching DNS" server on openSUSE Leap 15.3, mainly to play nice with the anti SPAM "black list" providers, which are currently rejecting requests "blocked due to usage of an open resolver". Rumor has it that installing a "properly configured caching DNS server" is the fix du jour. Never done this. Never. Honest. Is "BIND" still they way to go?
