Chromium crashing

There was a Chromium update recently and since then it has been crashing frequently. I'll leave the browser open and when I come back later it has crashed. Has anyone else noticed this? tnx jk

mail archive - is this normal?

Hello: I am trying to find a message in the archive, which is a hard task. The search function doesn't work, it gives: Server error An error occurred while processing your request. Therefore I have to search monthly, and set the maximum results/page to 200 every time when I change month, because it is always reset to 10. (It is amazing what a crap this mail archive frontend is.) I know I can install this with the traditional rpm command, and I know it will work, but I always get some nasty comments about doing so. YAST doesn't seem to see it. PLEASE don't tell me that Libre Office is just as good; it's not. --doug

Installation Doesn't Install

Hi, I am trying to install Opensuse Leap 15.3 on a new Asus UX393E laptop, as a multiboot with Windows 11. The laptop has a 1 TB hardrive installed, which is listed as a NVMe Intel SSDPEKNW010T8. In preparation for the installation, I reduced the size of the Win partition, leaving an unallocated space for the Opensuse install. After rebooting, I disabled secure boot. I then booted Gparted from a USB stick and installed separate partitions in the unallocated space for Swap, Root, and Home. I planned on using the windows /boot/efi partition for the /boot/efi required by Leap. Then I attempted to install Leap 15.3 from a USB stick. The installation program worked well till I got to the partitioning. The install program doesn't recognize my harddrive at all, it only recognizes the USB stick with the installation program. It says it is unable to provide guided installation advice, and when I try to use expert partitioning, I find that the laptop's harddrive is not recognized at all. I haven't run across anything to help me out when I tried to search for an answer, and the opensuse forum is down now so I couldn't search there for ideas. Anyone have ideas about how to fix this problem? Thanks, Mark

Gajim on Tumbleweed: were does Gajim store its config file?

I tried with grep -v password ~/.config/gajim/config > gajim-config grep: /home/entropy/.config/gajim/config: File o directory non esistente I had a look at the folder. There is a config.old from May. This means that since May 2021 there has been a setup change in TW that did put the config file somewhere.....and I do not have an idea where it could be. Searched all the files with gajim- config but the name has been changed too probably. Anybody has an idea where it could have been placed now?

Unabel to connect Xiaomi phone to Tumbleweed

Dear All, For some time, I am unable to transfer files (photos) from my Xiaomi redmi Note 9 phone to a Tumbleweed laptop with KDE through USB. Once it used to work, but something has changed recently. I enabled file transfer on the phone, but Dolphin does not react, no MTP device. I installed Krisader and even Nautilus but no progress. I also have a partition with virtual machines, it also vanished. I used to click on its icon in the places menu in Dolphin, gave the su password, and started Virtual Box. I see both phone and VM partiton in Dolphin when started in su mode, but accessing them is not possible. Any experience outside? Browsers using webkit2gtk3 can't open HTML files

Hi, Firstly, excuse me if I'm sending to the wrong mailing list and please redirect me to the appropriate one if that's the case. I've recently tried badwolf[1], a browser using WebKitGTK engine. I also built a package on OBS in case anyone want to try out[2]. When I try opening an HTML file with it, instead of rendering the HTML, it prompts a file download. I brought this up with the project maintainer, and they responded that this is a problem with the WebKit, rather than the browser itself. Other users also confirmed the browser can render HTML files on their machine just fine. Can someone who use a WebKit browser (e.g. this browser or GNOME Web) confirm? Is it a problem with the WebKit build on openSUSE? Or rather, it is a problem with how I compile the browser? Updates and update error

Two questions in one-- Using LEAP. I thought this was supposed to be free of continuous updates, unlike its brother Tumbleweed. Nevertheless I get several software update announcements every day, which I don't implement. Now I have a popup "Update Error" Permission to access 'http://packman.inode.at/suse/openSUSE_12.2/repodata/repomd.xml' denied. Is this important, and if so why, and how to fix it. If it is not important, why do I get it? --doug

Hello: How can I set/change my network's MAC address in openSUSE Leap 15.3 with wicked configured network? Earlier adding LLADDR="<mac address> line to /etc/sysconfig/network/ifcfg-<card> did it. It doesn't seem to work in Leap 15.3. Thanks, Istvan

news account without user

Hello, I'm trying to install INN, the nntp server on openSUSE 15.3 I am root on this system, and log as root with ssh key. INN is available from yast, so not problem installing the binaries. But... INN installs itself as user "news". The "news" folder is available with cd ~news, and is physically setup in /etc/news. this user is a system user and not allowed to login. however, some commands are better used as user news. What is the best way to achieve this? runuser don't works ("no account"). may I allow login? MS Teams on current Tumbleweed

I have been using Teams on Tumbleweed without problems. After the last update to Tumbleweed, I now get this when running teams: [105506.729217] traps: Chrome_IOThread[2342] trap invalid opcode ip:5604615e6934 sp:7f4873ffd490 error:0 in teams[56045eff0000+5fbe000] Teams itself was not updated, and there seems not to be a new version available. aarch64 qcom2 images

Hello, My "Free" french FAI gives me a high end "modem", that is really a NAS and allows me to use VM's. (some notes here: http://www.dodin.org/wiki/pmwiki.php?n=Doc.Debug-Freebox-Delta-Vm) It allows me to use JeOS image. Very nice. This is done automatically with some pre-configured variables (script available is necessary). Having some debugging to make, I looked after these images on openSUSE download page without success: Here, JeOS is only x86_64 (OpenStack-Cloud for qcow2). However, using google to search qcow2, I got this page: https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Cloud:/Images:/Leap_15.3/images/ with the necessary image (?) openSUSE-Leap-15.3.aarch64-NoCloud.qcow2 I notice the "NO" in front of cloud. I wonder why the aarch64 image I used to install (but it's real name is hidden by the interface) is not provided on the download page, and why is there here the "NO" in the name thanks jdd -- http://dodin.org

Suggestions for a diagram drawing program.

Hi all. I am soon to embark on a flurry of system documentation. As a part of this, diagrams showing the layout of both hardware, software, data flow and processing will be done. The things to be presented are rather complicated in that there are many components and many connections between the components. I have done diagrams in the past, but have never been wowed by the software. I'm sure a part of that is my experience with the software. But I think that I might also have chosen poorly. Right tool for the task and all that. So, I am looking at the alternatives. My preference is something that runs on multiple platforms (Linux and Windows). To be honest, a Web tool it not out of the question. Except it would be nice to have the diagrams saved locally for use over a long period of time. It is not a one off thing. These diagrams need to be maintained and by perhaps more than one person. At least over time. Interactive diagrams where the viewer can click and get more details or related diagrams would be nice. Having everything in a monster diagram seems like a bad approach. On the other hand, including the diagrams in other documents that might not be dynamic is needed. So, if you have used any such tools (especially on Linux), what are your experiences? And I expecting too much? I have looked at programs like dia. It seems rather basic. But that might just be my knowledge of what it can do. I have also used programs that let you specify the diagram in a text file and it lays out the diagram. That has been fine for simple diagrams. But when the diagrams reach any realistic complexity, the layout is often something that one must struggle with. All pointers are welcome. I have looked at various discussions of this but they are typically so superficial that they provide no real information. I am willing to investigate alternatives. -- Roger Oberholtzer

bogomips on VM

Hello, I want to compare several hosting systems. For this I try to use Bogomips as given on start dmesg. However, on one of my systems, installed with JeOS on a vm, I get: dmesg | grep Bogo [ 0.000166] Calibrating delay loop (skipped), value calculated using timer frequency.. 50.00 BogoMIPS (lpj=250000) is there a way to get the Bogomips for this system? It might be enough to install from repositories/Kernel:/stable/standard/x86_64/ or the 15.3 kernel, but it might also require newer firmware or a newer xf86-video-amdgpu or even Xorg. I'd try the 15.3 kernel first, but it might depend on something incompatible with the 15.2 basesytem. If it won't install, I would expect the stable/standard kernel would. low resolution with new Ryzen 5 built-in graphics

I am trying to setup a new machine with oS 15.2, but it is giving me only a fall-back graphic resolution of 1024x768, even though the monitor has HD resolution. The graphics is built-in in the CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Built-in Radeon™ Vega CU Graphics lspci describes the device as "[AMD/ATI] Cezanne", which sounds right. But KDE is only offering this poor resolution. Can't run NFS server

I downgraded one of my computers to 15.2 because this is the only way to have a sound. Now I installed the NFS server as follows: At first I executed "zypper in yast2-nfs-server" for making "NFS server" available to Yast. Next I prepared an /etc/exports file and executed "Yast | Network Services | NFS Server" Finally I invoked "Yast | System | Services Manager" and started "nfs-server" and "nfsserver". But that did not help, the NFS server does not work, i.e. it is impossibile to NFS-mount a file on a different computer. What is wrong? Any help is welcome. Thank you in advance, Wolfgang
