[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). [SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. Creating a new user for a deamon

SuSE Tumbleweed with newest updates and upgrades. 5.7.1-1-default #1 SMP Wed Jun 10 11:53:46 UTC 2020 (6a549f6) x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Just recently started to give error messages when plugging in e.g. USB Headsets, Arduino Uno into some Exsys USB 3.0 hub. This was working fine in Tumbleweed before and in e.g. SuSE 13.1. Audio problem Leap-15.3

How to connect via WiFi

My new computer is an HP 15s-eq2147 FHD RYZ5-5 16GB 512 SSD DOS It has no cable connection to the internet, but only access via WiFi. Installing Leap 15.3 was no problem, but so far I did not manage to establish a WiFi connection. Using Yast, I set up a wicked service with fixed address, getting this list: Device Name: wlan0 Configured with address 192.168.2.16/24 (acer.ariannuccia.zz) Starting automatically on cable connection I find it somewhat absurd that a cable connection is required even for WiFi. Since I have no cable connection, I am looking for a work around. Any idea? The "Authentication Mode" offers these 5 options: No Encryption WEP - Open WEP - Shared Key WPA-EAP ("enterprise") WPA-PSK ("home") On my router (192.168.2.1) there are these "Encryption type": Unencrypted (not recommended) WPA2 (very secure) WPA / WPA2 (secure) WPA (secure) For avoiding problems with the correspondence of these methods, I have selected "No Encryption" on my computer and "Unencrypted (not recommended)" on my router. But the connection does not work. Any attempt to ping the router from the new computer is rejected with the reply: connect: Network is unreachable Any help would be welcome. file manager used to save in chrome

In the latest update in 15.2, something changed in the way I save files downloaded from the internet when in Chrome, or a Chrome based browser like Brave. It used to use Dolphin file manager, and that is much more convenient, because it requires less clicks to change the file name. Now it switched to the file manager that Gnome uses - I guess its Nautilus. I don't use Gnome very much, but I have it installed and sometimes go into it if there is something I need it for, so I have to keep the gnome base packages on my system. I have been beating my head against smartctl for over two hours now. I cannot seem to get the command "long" accepted, as the various tutorials explain. You have provided 2 device names: long /dev/nvme0n1 (It doesn't like "short" either.) And my typing is getting worse! It doesn't help that my drive is called /dev/nvme0n1. As I mentioned earlier, the lightning strike has damaged something in this, my main computer, and I'm trying to find out what. For those who missed the earlier post, the only thing I can connect to here is the internet. I cannot see the printers or the laptop machine, and nmap basically doesn't work. I started this quest at 11:30 PM and it's now 3:30 AM. I'm going to bed! --doug

[opensuse] Kernel compilation the openSUSE way?

I usually take the newest openSUSE kernel (from repository Kernel_stable). But since some month I have a DVB T2 HD card, which requires a patch (see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194171). So I need to compile kernels myself. I have a working compilation path. But the current path has 12 steps! It takes some time. I wonder, why it is so complicated to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE. Is there a better/easier/automated way to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE? I know this blog article. But the article uses Vanilla kernels and also needs 6 steps. With additional patches (4 steps), third-party modules (2 steps) and cleanup (1 step) the article would also need 13 steps: Compiling the Linux Kernel, the SUSE way https://www.suse.com/communities/blog/compiling-de-linux-kernel-suse-way/ This is my Kernel configuration, compilation and installation path: 1. [oS-en] Firefox will not start.

I can open it in safe mode. It asks if I want to refresh the profile, I say yes, and it opens. It keeps my tabs. Add ons are gone (there was only one, an add blocker). I close it and try to start it normally, but does not. I have to kill it. Gone through this three or four times. What is going on? How do I find out? Video is Intel. I try to create a new profile. Dialog pops up, says to click next, but the buttons are half way out the bottom of the window and I can not read them. I try to rename the resulting profile, but does not obey the keys to type a new name. I manage to delete it. Create new profile again, this time the next key displays properly. I have to hit it twice. Try to rename it, impossible. Nevertheless, that new profile fails to display, I have to kill it. Trying to downgrade firefox from 91 to 78. Says I have to create a new profile because bookmarks have been migrated :-( (does it create a backup of the profile when it migrates?) But at least it runs. firefox scrollbar

Hello: The scrollbars' properties (color, background color, width) are really important things in scrollable windows, normally they are controlled by the window theme. I've recently installed firefox 91.2.0esr and its scroll bars are not like the used theme's scrollbar. They are hard to see, changing color depending on visited site and so thin that it is hard to move the cursor over them. I guess this is a new firefox "improvement", because the previous firefox esr (78) uses the theme's scrollbar. Is there a way to make firefox use the theme defined scrollbars? Thanks, Istvan

openSUSE 15.3 & cyrus-imapd

Hello List Updated my system yesterday from 15.2 to 15.3. Basically the update went just fine, buuuut all cyrus-imapd binaries are gone!!! Thought I've read the release notes and understood under Point: 3.2.1 Berkeley DB removed from packages So, is in SUSE Terms cyrus-sasl = cyrus-imapd. If so, bad luck for me and I'm sorry for my ignorance. If not, wasn't it worth spend one sentence in the release note that cyrus-imapd will be removed as well? And even better all cyrus-sasl thingy's are still available/installed on my system. And yes there are still people out using openSUSE as a mailserver WITH cyrus. Second question i have. mysql upgrade failure

Hello - I have ran into a problem that maybe someone else has hit and knows a solution for it. I recently upgraded my OpenSuSE 15.2 x64 version to OpenSuSE 15.3 x64 and installed all additional updates and patches that were suggested for 15.3. Most of the upgrade succeeded, all except Mariadb. Google has not been helpful either. My understanding of Mariadb is that after a new install of a new version it is suppose to automagically update and fix the databases from the older version, when the server is restarted, but I think this is failing. I found the upgrade log file for Mariadb and it appears to be reporting some kind of corruption has occurred. (OpenSuSE 15.3 wants to install version 10.5.12-3.9.1 of these mariadb packages.) And lo and behold the previous 10.4.13-lp152.1.1 package works fine! So what gives? Any idea why the upgraded version of mariadb packages are failing to upgrade and support my databases? As I said I have tried Googling for an answer but no joy finding one. A lot of the proposed solutions, Google found, assume the mariadb server is up and running (hump!) so the example solutions given, use mysql queries and commands to fix corrupt databases and tables. I should also point out that AFAIK most, if not all of my database structures are using InnoDB and not the older MYISAM structures (although the mysql database itself appears to have both). I did make a mysql backup of all the databases but without the ability to start the mariadb server I don't know how to make use of this backup file to reconstruct all the databases and their tables etc. Thanks in advance for any and all advice on how to upgrade my mariadb server. Hello folks, I am trying to compile a Qt program which is not available in ANY opensuse repo, that I can find. It is called Hello Speech example and it is used to control QtSpeech. Hello Speak Example is used to control the rate, rhythm, voice etc from QtSpeech. I got the software comes from git. The instructions on compiling the package are to run "qmake--qt5" followed by "make". When I run qmake-qt5, I get the following message: "Project ERROR: Unknown module(s) in QT: texttospeech" there was no other output at all. I searched for this and found a post (Ubuntu forum) with a similar build problem and same error message. It seems to indicate where the problem lies (some edits by me): reply ..."You state that you are using Qt 5.9 but the error message shows include directories to qt4..." op ..." Issue was that build was taking qt4 libs instead of Qt5, Fixed by adding |qt5-default| package" I am running opensuse 15.3 new install (not updated from 15.2, etc.). I installed the base development and kernel develpment softwae patterns via yast. I also ran: zypper install libqt5-qtbase-devel Which installed a bunch of packages. Am I missing some Qt5 packages? Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Gustav

comparing installed package list from a specific repo between two systems

Hello: I have two openSUSE 15.1 installations and would like to compare their installed packages from a given repo, let's say from packman. I would like to use diff program to compare the lists of installed packages. I can produce an installed package list of the packman repo using: zypper pa -ir <packman> > list.txt The problem with this approach is that the column widths are different depending on the installed packages' names and therefore I cannot use diff to compare the lists. (All lines will be different.) Is there a way to configure zypper how to format its output? Or is there any option that makes the output usable for diff? Other solutions are also welcome. Two of my credit cards were hacked last month, so I would like to install and use a vpn to purchase items on the 'net. I downloaded and printed out a paper called YaST VPN module. It says to install the latest stable version us zypper: sudo zypper install yast2-vpn. I did that, and after a page full of error messages, it says: The following NEW package is going to be installed: ` yast2-vpn 1 new package to install. Overall download size: 32.1 KiB. Already cached: 0 B. After the operation, additional 110.0 KiB will be used. Continue? The page recognizes Connection name: newvpn. At this point, I don't know how to g further. Will some kind soul please help? --doug

can't copy many files

I am tearing what little hair I still have! I have ~38 GiB of photos in a directory on the main drive. I need to copy these to a flash drive. I have a 128 GiB flash drive. I can only copy about 4 or 5 photos to the flash drive. (I am trying to do this with Dolphin as a source and File Manager as the destination.) After it copies about 5 files, it will not copy any more. Directory shows 14 MiB on the disk. (I have previously cleared the flash with gParted and told it to be fat32-- I need the flash to be readable on a Windows machine.) It is now showing in gParted as sda *and* sdb, with different sizes used, but no where near the full size of 128 GiB. This is not the only flash drive I have seen this problem with, but it's the only one I have that *should* be big enough to hold all the photos. ( I need to send them to an insurance company.) Failure message is "Could not write to /run/media/root/9458-DC92/insurance_pix/9:1_balun.jpg." I can't even try this on another computer without downloading all the files from the camera again. ( I will if necessary, but I don't understand the failure mode.) --doug

Hello: Still my new openSUSE Leap 15.3 installation. Doing a df -h my root partition (the only partition at the moment) is listed as /dev/mapper/WDC.....-part2. Is this the normal way in Leap 15.3 or I enabled some service which does this? How could I get back the old /dev/sdx way? Thanks, Istvan

Leap 15.3 yast software repositories priority order

Hello: This is a new openSUSE Leap 15.3 installation. The order the repos are listed in yast software repositories window is strange (incorrect). All repos with priority number 99 are separeted in a different group from any other repos which have different priority number. For example if I set ascending order I get something like this (I write only the numbers): 60 120 150 180 99 (Default) 99 (Default) 99 (Default) 99 (Default) That is, everything not 99 is listed before 99 independently from its value. How could I fix this, it's really annoying. Thanks, Istvan

Hi, I have been configuring my Asus laptop after I installed opensuse. I found by research that there has been an issue in the past with the Intel video driver that my laptop uses in linux. But that driver was placed in the 5.8 kernel and the problem went away. Those fixes have now been added into the updated 5.3 kernels, which are used in Leap 15.3. The driver is working, but it doesn't seem to be configured correctly from the start, and anything displayed in any window was displayed too small. So the issue to me seemed to be that the driver configuration was incorrect, at least for my laptop display. I haven't found any information about how to generally configure the driver overall (Intel TigerLake-LP Iris Xe Graphics [TGL GT2]). What I have done is to increase font and icon size, and window zoom to get a readable screen in each browser. Yet what I haven't found is how to increase the size of the font in the URL windows in a browser. They appear very tiny, as the rest of a browser screen used to present before I adjusted the settings. The adjustments I have made in the browser settings haven't affected the url window in the browser. Would anyone have ideas as to how to increase font size in that specific location? Thanks Mark

I do a separate sync previous to hibernating, because otherwise the hibernate stalls for long time not giving a hint of what is going on. What is going on? Well, the problem seems to be syncing the metadata of partition sdc9 (reiserfs, rotating rust), which holds /var/spool/news/. It can be a few millions of small files. Not really a news server, just the leafnode proxy. Live Net 15.3 Upgrade Pointers

Hi Folks, I've got to perform a live upgrade from Leap 15.2 to 15.3 on a system for which I don't have physical access. I'm thinking that a live zypper upgrade via remote ssh will work using the instructions for a console upgrade, listed here: https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:System_upgrade Does anyone have experience doing this? Any pointers would be appreciated before I break something! Regards, Lew
