[opensuse] Project management software question for project managers

I am looking for project management software I can install on my Suse box. Alas, there are quite a number of prducts that claim to be suitable project management products, but I am hoping to obtain a little help separating the wheat from the chaffe. Basically, when I open the project management software, I want to be able to choose from among a number of projects that are under way, and then see the relation between a client's wish list and the functional requirements specs, and then how these specs relate to the UML diagrams that have been created, and from there, what tasks have been defined for each requirement and the identity of all persons involved, the developers and their managers, and the person who designed the code that supports the requirement. And with that, I want to be able to see the project's timeline, the related bugs, &c. I would even want to be able to open the source code files and examine the code that was actually written. Here is my wish list: 1) a web application that stores data in either PostgreSQL or MySQL. 2) easy integration with UML tool (or has it's own UML tool that supports round trip engineering) 3) resource management (e.g. computers, and development tools, that can be used, personelle assigned to each task) 4) documentation of relation between functional requirements specs to specific tasks and specific unit and integration tests. 5) time/effort tracking 6) bug tracking, including data relating the existance of the bug, and effort required to fix it, to the person who wrote the original code, the person who supervised him or her, and the person who designed the 'feature' in question, the time taken to complete the original task, and the technologies used (to imprrove accountability as well as to determine retraining and continuing education needs (people aren't disposable, so instead of taking a harsh aproach to problems identified, I prefer to use education as a corrective, but I can't design corrective instruction without knowing precisely what the need is). I also need to know if a developer has a higher than normal bug rate simply because he doesn't take enough time to ensure the job is done right, or because I haven't adequately trained him, or because of a poor choice of tools, or somethng else that may be my fault. 7) use of task effort tracking history to generate provisional effort/cost estimates from new project's functional requirements 8) easy integration with open source ERP products like OFBiz (which may make trakcing resources and manpower easier, as well as connect real production data to the enterprise's accounting systems) 9) easy integration with CMS products, like Wordpress (especally for production documentation, includng degin documentation and user guides and reference manuals) 10) easy integration with verion control systems such as subversion. If there is a decent product that supports all of this, great (and language used to implement it doesn't matter), but if I have to write code to add missing requirements, then I am limited to those implemented using Perl or Java (and running on Tomcat). I don't know PHP well enough, and I don't know Ruby at all; and I really don't want to think about implementing this sort of thing in C++ (though I could if absolutely necessary). If you have project management experience, and use tools that are available for Suse Linux, what software product(s) did you use, and with what result? While I await relies, I will continue to review web documentation for those products I have found so far, to see if any of them are a) suitable for use in production and b) to see to what extent they support the features I am after. I have seen a number of products so far in my search, that deserve to be nameless, because they provide no way to relate cost estimates to one's team's track record, or to the details of the design, and seem satisfied with production of a pretty gantt chart (which is why I have formed the view that there is a whole lots of chaffe in the set of applications that call themselves project menement software - I have yet to find anything that really has the potential of being labelled wheat). Sorry SuSE: 9.1 is Waste of time and money!

I am sorry to conclude that my upgrade from SuSE 9.0 Pro to 9.1 Pro has been waste of time and money for me, so far. The same I have to say about the free SuSE "Installation support". The reason is that my SuSE 9.1 installation only detects 1 of my 3 SCSCI devices (as I wrote in another subject on this forum: http://lists.suse.com/archive/suse-linux-e/2004-May/3254.html) Yamaha 4416S CDRW recorder detected HP DVD Writer 100i NOT detected Epson 1640SU scanner NOT detected It's rather stupid. I have installed 9.1 using the DVD disk just in the HP DVD drive, but after the installation of 9.1, the KDE/Konqueror /media/recorder cannot access it and YaST2 cannot install additional software from it. Only one "Cdrecorder" is found in My computer and that is the Yamaha 4416 drive, which the KDE/Konqueror file manager assign as /media/recorder11. I am sure 9.1 is the reason, as I hadn't this problems with 9.0. I have tried both an update and two several new installation of 9.1. Neither SJDS nor Windows on the same multiboot PC have problems to detect these devices. In my opinion SuSE should therefore debug 9.1 better and longer, and not leave the problems to the customers. I see SuSE notes on their web saying that they know SCSI scanners are not detected in 9.1. But regarding my HP DVD writer problem, the SuSE support (as usual) don't take the responsibility and argue that this problem (a combination of IDE disk and SCSI devices) isn't included in their free installation support! This sounds remarkable, and I have never had a modern PC of so simple model or configuration that it has fitted the limited rules for the free installation support. Terje J. Hanssen

[SLE] RealPlayer G2 on SuSe 6.2

Yesterday, I finally got sound going on my Linux setup. I downloaded RealPlayer G2 and it worked beautifully. Today, RealPlayer run but no sound coming out. All other sound functions still work. I can still play my CD, have system sound BUT no sound when I run RealPlayer. /var/log/message said kernel: Sound: DMA (output) timed out - IRQ/DRQ config error? but KDE sound still work. I have re-installed RealPlayer 3 times now, still no sound when I run the RealPlayer. Any help is appreciated. I usually take the newest openSUSE kernel (from repository Kernel_stable). But since some month I have a DVB T2 HD card, which requires a patch (see https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=194171). So I need to compile kernels myself. I have a working compilation path. But the current path has 12 steps! It takes some time. I wonder, why it is so complicated to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE. Is there a better/easier/automated way to configure, compile and install a Kernel under openSUSE? I know this blog article. But the article uses Vanilla kernels and also needs 6 steps. With additional patches (4 steps), third-party modules (2 steps) and cleanup (1 step) the article would also need 13 steps: Compiling the Linux Kernel, the SUSE way https://www.suse.com/communities/blog/compiling-de-linux-kernel-suse-way/ This is my Kernel configuration, compilation and installation path: 1. [opensuse] Raid, Raid6, what file system for good fault tolerance?

Hi list, speaking about software raid, not hardware controller based. I am trying to go for some local OpenSuse machine and adding some storage to it. Was considering Raid6, and now reading about a bit and people left and right scaremongering about the larger the disks these days in the double digit terabyte capacities even, the more likely it is that during a reconstruction of a raid subsequent errors would occur. I would absolutely like to keep my data consistent, and I am not thinking about double digit terabytes either, would stick to 2TB or 4TB disks, with Raid6 thats at least 4 physical drives. Now I am wondering if it possible to use a good robust file system that can add some more parity or check blocks or redundancy on top of the hardware disks, to absolutely be able to always read my data. I can't add multiple machines or like those high availability stuff like clusters and what not I read about DRBD (Distributed Replicated Block Device), or maybe I am just too scared by those technical terms or consider myself to be just a simpleton and wanting to keep it rather simple. My use case here is also not constant availablity, when a disk needs to be replaced, so be it, but I don't want to lose my data that I can not ever read certain parts of it again or such stuff. The thing that came to my mind was, if there is some file systems that would add redundancy and robustness onto the mdraid system of the linux kernel? Anyone with some useful insights? Roughly speaking, I was considering some simple pcie esata interfaced controller card and an external case enclosure with esata port and portmulitplier stuff inside, that can present at least 4 physical disks as JBOD, just a bunch of disks, so that the Linux can seem them all separately. Speed and rebuild times are not my concern, but data persistence and data integrity. Not even number of physical disks, I could live with even one of those 8 bay device enclosures and cases that are out there on the market. [opensuse] brother multifunction printer install

Having seen a few posts here and elsewhere of late from satisfied Linux users of Brother printers, after using HP for the last 15 years and my current one dying a death only partly brought on by my fist, I decided this week to buy a Brother DCP-J572DW. I've unboxed it, done the initial standalone setup and selected my wifi network. Now I need to install the drivers that I've downloaded from Brother's website but Jesus pancakes, it wants to pull in a lot of 32-bit crap. In addition to the four rpms, Brother also provide a setup script. Before going through this I thought I'd just do a search to see if others have done it this way or some other way. Mistake. Now I'm just overloaded with possibles. On the openSUSE subreddit, some posts suggest this script stalls looking for the libusb-0.1-4 package. One user suggests it's seeking the 32-bit version of that too, and another user reports success after installing that. There's also the suggestion any user might need to be added to the lp group. Other posts suggest ignoring the script and using zypper/yast to install the rpms. Here's the list of packages set to be installed: https://susepaste.org/55221c2c I know it's only a bunch of files that use a relatively small amount of disk space, but having a spanking new PC running a fresh Leap install and a spanking new printer, I didn't want my software selection to be dragged back a decade. Have any other users here had success setting up full print/scan functions without installing all these dependencies, on a similar Brother inkjet? Brother's website also mentions needing to open the following ports: incoming UDP Port 54925 outgoing TCP Port 54921 but a lot of the references are to versions of openSUSE 10.x or 11.x. [opensuse] Theme(s) for Thunderbird and Firefox

A short while ago I saw Firefox on a Windows machine and was most impressed by seeing the pages BLACK with text and pix from websites displayed in their proper colours (ie as they normally appear on a "normal" FF with its all white background colour). Well, if you prefer not to have your eyes staring at a white background all the time then you can (in the Tools>Addons) the theme called DARK READER. Also, the same applies to Thunderbird -- you can have the same black background to look at which is more comfortable on the eyes. The theme fo TB is called DEEP DARK. FYI. There might be a simpler way, but it go me up and running. Once bootable, I often resolved nvidia X11 issues by just deinstalling then reinstalling the relevant nvidia driver. Generally I've had no issues with nvidia except when I've switched the hardware and need new drivers. I don't find it to be the cause of many woes (tried Radian once for a short while a decade ago, thought it was worse). Hello group, I am trying to evaluate use of fibre channel switched fabric. But I am not able to get it working (openSUSE Leap 15.1). I would appreciate, if anybody knows something or where to find (working) instructions. All instructions I found refer to old/or proprietary drivers/methods (kernel 2.6 or older). I use following hardware: -HP branded (AE312 - 60001) QLogic Corp. [opensuse] OS LEAP on a USB stick

Hi, all -- I have a media server stuffed full of hard drives, and I have to date been using Knoppix with a Casper partition on a USB drive to run it. The idea was that 1) replacing the boot media should be easy (and I clone the stick to another every once in a while) and 2) upgrading should be easy (by just whipping up a fresh stick with the latest version and comparing my persistence partition files with the new fresh versions) while 3) maintenance should be simple. It's worked well enough so far, but ... I'm about to bring another server in-house, and I maybe want just a bit more than Knoppix, although I still won't have disk slots to spare. I need the simple stability of LEAP, which will of course get updates regularly anyway, and wonder about running on a thumb drive in the same way. This one will run MySQL/Maria, probably run a web server, and will handle email and need at least a basic forwarding MTA if not the real thing. I imagine that I'd want to run without swap (*gasp* yes, that discussion again ;-) and figure I'm stuck with content changes right in the live OS rather than in an overlay volume. Does that sound right, or is there a LEAP live image (no, I haven't gone looking yet) that can UNIONFS on top in the same way? Hi For ordinary lazy users like me who are not interested in or capable of system admin as a daily chore, should there not be the possibility of a section in Yast2 or Systemsettings where some standard user friendly housekeeping functions (e.g. flushing tmp folders, vacuuming journals etc) could be activated/configured to run at startup/shutdown rather than have to scour the net for solutions. For many like me, the computer should be doing more work with stuff that could be automated. I've just hit the "system disk full" message when running "zypper", it would have been better if a "disk getting full" message was displayed at login so i could have dealt with it. Hi, since yesterday I have some freezes of approx. 20 seconds: the mouse pointer disappears or stays unmovable, the keyboard doesn't react. The rest of the computer seems to run normally (gkrellm shows movement, radio continues playing). This began yesterday. Today I updated the system and rebooted, same problem. [opensuse] setup delay on network and browsers problem

I have no idea of the reason of the problem, but since some weeks, my Leap 15.1 computer (three of them, actually) get a long time to connect to the net. same with wifi or ethernet. Looks like a dhcp problem (all are setup as dhcp, but they IP never changes) like 20-30s after I can type on the keyboard. In the mean time, all my applications launch, Firefox, Chromium, Falkon, Thunderbird. then all send error messages "server not found". Hello I'm trying for the first time to install opensuse on an lend dedicated root server from hetzner. I want to install opensuse-kubic but they need a tar, tar.gz, tar.bz, tar.bz2, tar.xz, tgz, tbz or txz. But I don't know how to get the iso into one of this formats. Is there a dedicated download for one of this formats or can i convert the iso into one of this formats?

Hello, I want to use a proprietary software (DaVinci Resolve). My ASUS N550JK is an optimus computer, but I never could make bumblebee work more than 10 mn long (during these minutes, resolve worked 5x faster than kdenlive, the reason why I would like to use it). Resolve works on a much less powerful computer with intel graphics and no optimus. On the ASUS, it ask for "an openCL interface". As far As I understand, Mesa openCL (and lib openCL) is installed. Is it possible to to hide completely the nvidia video part? Is there a chance intel driver can provide openCL? [opensuse] Obsolete entry in fstab stalls booting

Please note, that the problem at hand is already solved, but the underlying issue gets in my way from time to time, so I wanted to tell (or rant 😉) about it. Two days ago, I wasn't able to boot my system (LEAP 15.1): X-Server didn't start and I could only log into maintenance mode with no network either. First, I suspected a botched update, but the kernel-firmware was updated a couple of days before and I had successfully booted in the mean time. So, I was dumbfounded, but then I remembered to look into /etc/fstab and found an entry of a USB drive that I had plugged in and removed. I deleted said entry and LEAP booted just fine. My point is: maybe the maintainers could help to avoid this situation: Please, don't break the boot process if some malfunctioning but unimportant entry in fstab doesn't work! I have not installed a new Tumbleweed in years. Today I was prep'ing a new machine for our datacenter console, and decided I might as well use Tumbleweed. In yast ncurses, I was surprised to see - a) to change to wicked I have to tab into the option, it is not available with keyboard shortcuts under Change->Network Config. b) that predictable interface names were used by default (easily changed, I know). c) at the end of installation, a pop-up window with no timer ? Hello: In the thread of my previous question on "usable free space on an ext4 file system" I wrote that I could not fill the available free space with one big file. In openSUSE 13.1 I can not copy one big file to fill the available free space. I found that in openSUSE Leap 15.1 I can copy the same file to fill the available space, using the very same partition. When I want to copy the file the system says there is no space left on the device. Some file is copied partially. In this case df reports that the available space is 0. If I umount the file system and mount it again, df reports that the available space is 55K. I find it srange. Maybe it is a silly question, but I would like to know what process or program handles file systems and their use (used space, available space). Is it the kernel or mount program or somethging else? I have a very unusual situation. I am trying to log in to a web site (https://www.zf-laser.com if you are curious) from either Firefox (72.0.2) or Chrome (79.0.3945.130) on Tumbleweed. I enter the password, but it is not accepted. Both browsers change the password I have entered into a long string that starts with "rsa:". I am guessing this is what they send. And, when Firefox offers to keep the password, I see that it is this same altered string, not the one I entered. I can log in to other sites (e.g. OBS). But not this one. I have no idea what is happening. Especially since both browsers do the same thing. Any ideas? A Google search did not seem to me to show anything related to this. Hello: I would like to find out how much space is available for a regular user on an ext4 file system. If I know correctly the system reserves some space (~5%) for root only acces. Hi, I have six virtual bridges in xen host machine and following virtual machine configuration file section defining the vifs: vif = [ 'bridge=br10', 'bridge=br20', 'bridge=br30', 'bridge=br40', 'bridge=br50', 'bridge=br60' ] This means that in the guest(openSUSE Leap 42.1) I have six vNICs(eth0 - eth5). Can I be sure that eth0 is always connected to br10, eth1 to br20, etc? Or should I specify a MAC address for each vNIC created like this: vif = [ 'bridge=br10, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F1', 'bridge=br20, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F2', 'bridge=br30, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F3', 'bridge=br40, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F4', 'bridge=br50, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F5', 'bridge=br60, mac=00:14:5E:11:C6:F6' ] .. and then configure udev rules which make sure that interface associated with MAC 00:14:5E:11:C6:F1 and br10 is always named eth0, interface associated with MAC 00:14:5E:11:C6:F2 and br20 is always named eth1, etc? I am puzzled about what the information would be (in case all goes well). For me, I have a Samsung 850 Pro (with obviously another firmware than the other Samsung SSD 850 EVO. Now one would expect to get a list of: firmware version, serial number etc. Instead the result with me is: cat /sys/class/block/sd*/device/model Samsung SSD 850 Oops, this does not even make clear which 850 SSD this is, EVO or PRO. Is this intended? If yes, I do not have twitter. Do you happen to know by chance how to report back? To be more specific, I have a LUKS volume on /dev/sda3. I am about to reinstall LEAP 15.0 on /, which is on an entirely different disk. I will only redo /, and leave /home, etc. untouched. Question is: will the "passphrase", etc. continue to work after the reinstall of the OS on /, or which of the following steps, (copied from SDB[0]) cryptsetup luksFormat /dev/sda3 cryptsetup luksOpen /dev/sda3 my_secure_partion Will need to be done? The version of memtest, included with 15.1, does not work with UEFI drives. I downloaded the proper version and installed it on a USB stick and it works fine. Will the version included with 15.2 work with UEFI? Given that the world is moving to it, I fail to see the point in keeping a version that doesn't work with newer computers. The printer is an aging Lexmark 543C that however does a marvelous service. Dear all, In the last few days there was a big TW upgrade with more than 1300 items. I am glad, I could reboot. But... My laptop says it removed thunderbird. Well, then let's reinstall it. It says it is already installed and nothing to be done. Then let's remove it. It says there is no such software. I tried to change from CLI zypper (zypper -f did not work either) to Yast, I failed, because neither Yast nor Yast2 worked, missing some modules. I tried to save some documents, it insisted to put them in temp. I tried to run zypper dup several times, with minor success. these processes always began with trying to remove cyrus* packages that could not be done because they are not installed - said zypper. i use TW with KDE Please help, where should I begin to tidy up things? [opensuse] Printing a PDF from Libreoffice and from Ocular

What is the trick to be able to successfully print a PDF file from (a) Ocular and (b) from Libreoffice? The question really relates to the the selection of page numbers when printing a range of pages. For example, I opened a PDF file in ocular and selected a range of pages to print --eg, 53 to 85 but the printing started from page 42 (I watched as the pages were being printed so stopped the job before too many pages [and ink] were wasted. The same happened (but with a different PDF file) when the file was opened in Libreoffice. At the bottom of the displayed page it shows the correct page number as the start page for the pp range I want to print but the printing begins from a different page (similar to the experience with Ocular). I also notice that with Libreoffice the left hand column displays a 'slideshow' page number but using these page numbers produced even mare wasted paper. The question therefore is: is there a "trick" in selecting the correct starting/ending pages to be printed when a PDF file is opened in either Ocular or LibreOffice? All help most appreciated. Hi, I installed twice new TW system (once after replacement of disk) using TW snapshot 20200205 image. Installation went fine, but on running system I repeatedly run into problems with 'df -h' showing no space available, but 'sudo btrfs fi show /' correctly showing plenty of space. Fix is possible by using 'sudo btrfs balance start /' - it usually enlarges limit for Metadata. I never had such issue on older system (updated to the same TW snapshot), but I keep having it regularly on new installs. Is it some known bug with Btrfs, or should I report it? [opensuse] Nextcloud client

Hello, I use Nextcloud client on openSUSE 15.1 plasma (kde) I plan to use Nextcloud pretty extensively as I just setup a personal server with lot of disk space. but, right now, when I add anything on my Nextcloud account, it's downloaded on my laptop disk.
