[opensuse] migration from openSUSE 12.3 to 13.2 - from ifup to wicked

Hi, I struggled long to migrate fully from initd to systemd. Now before I do the step from 12.3 to 13.2, i have concerns of ifup being replaced. Not much answers found googling around. A. can ifup be used instead of wicked B. is migration easy? following setup (IPv4 only): 2 physical network cards (RTL8111/8168) eth0: LAN (DHCPd running on the machine) eth1: (static ip) as connection to VDSL2 modem dsl0: PPPoE dial-up device lo tun0: openvpn server running tun1: vpnc connection (manually created on demand using vpnc) isdn0: backup ISDN dial-in connection (started manually) modem0: backup UMTS dial-in connection (started manually) C. firewall configuration I adjusted SuSEfirewall2 configuration a lot (routing,masquerading,forwarding,...) and added custom scripts for traffic shaping using tc and iptables. have i take care of anything regarding this? Unlike Farrugut's order at the Battle of Mobile Bay, going full-speed ahead is not going to achieve any useful objectives, yet the dangers of systemd are still there. For one, systemd is making APPLICATIONS now dependant on the systemd API, which means when even the biggest fanboys here, at Redhat, and other distributions finally are forced to admit that systemd is a crock of shit.... we won't be able to remove it.... in other words, unlike Farragut, the probability of eventually being blown out of the water by a systemd torpedo is 100%. [opensuse] No sound in Minecraft

I've asked on the minecraft forums without a response so I'm trying here in case that it might be a SuSE configuration issue. I do not have sound in the game. This has been a problem for several versions nowCurently running 1.7.5. I've also tried the last 2 snapshots. I can play music fine and was able to play the sound files in .mineraft/assets/objects/* via Amarok. I have deleted the assets folder and had re-downloaded everything. I looked in the bug list and I found a few sound related issues, but they suggested that there was some sounds. The log only mentions minecraft:mob.witch.idle, but there are no sounds at all in game, but in options everything is set to 100%. I tried to force an older version in profile editor but still no sound going back to 1.4.2. I see a java Playback Stream in the mixer and volume is 100% there too. Any ideas? [opensuse] DenyHosts daemon mode on openSUSE 11.3

Hi, I am trying to run DenyHosts on OS 11.3. I can get it to sync and update the hosts.deny file, but with "rcdenyhosts status" it reports as being "unused" just after I started it with "rcdenyhosts start". I tried also with yast, setting up as a service (daemon) and starting it. It also stops immediately. In the denyhosts.log file there is no error info, just what it used to set it up at start. I've gone through the configs several times, no joy. [opensuse] grub2 installation onto mdraid raid device

Hello: Here is what I would like to do: I have a system with two linux OSs, both are installed on mdraid raid1. I would like to install grub2 on the root partitions/devices of the given OSs, and a grub2 on MBR. The MBR grub2 would only chainload the other grub2 on the root partition. Is this possible, how? I tried to install grub2 on /dev/md2 using grub-install /dev/md2 and grub-setup /dev/md2 but apparently it hasn't succeeded, I can not chainload it. I would not like to have the real loader on MBR. [opensuse] 13.1 bootable USB stick

Hello, I am trying to create a bootable USB thumb drive. I downloaded the liveKDE64bit iso and followed the procedure outlined in the SDB. I did: Created 2 primary partitions on the drive, sdb1 - 10 Gb and sdb2 - 4 Gb, both ext4. as root ran dd if=/mnt/iso/openSUSE-13.1-KDE-Live-x86_64.iso of=/dev/sdb1 bs=4M The drive boots into a grub prompt only, but no menu appears. I reformatted sdb1 and tried again using virtually the sme command except using bs=1M and the process was finished ran "sync". This was suggested on another web page for suse 13.1. The result is the same, just a grub boot prompt. I could, at the prompt, set the root device, the kernel and the initrd and boot, but it is cumbersome to do it every time. Any pointers on how to get the normal boot menu (that is on the dvd) would be much appreciated. Using the mouse or keyboard to select an area of text does not "stick". A fraction of a second after selecting the area, the highlight disappears and the selected area is no longer marked. Example: after mouse-selecting an area of text to delete from a writable document, before I can press the 'delete' key the selection area is unmarked and if I press 'delete' key at this point the only thing deleted is the spot where the cursor is, at the end of the area I intended to delete. Apparently the selected area HAS been copied to the clipboard (it's visible in parcellite) and then deselected in the actual document. This is different from the expected action and different from previous versions. It's also extremely annoying. Question: Is this a bug, or an intended new 'feature', or simply a misconfiguration somewhere in my setup? Thanks in advance for any clues. [opensuse] Removing file-associations

Hi, Recently I added a file-association (right-clicking a file and then click "open with", then "other", then select to application and select "use always"). Now all text-files are opened with that application. I have to richt-click and select e.g. KWrite to open that file. How can I "globally" remove that association ? I tried in system-configuration/file-associations. In the "Application" list there are tens, maybe over hundred, of entries, and I don't want to scan them individually to remove that application from the list. I already did from a number of them, but then I gave up. So any advice ? Thanks. [opensuse] XDG_RUNTIME_DIR is not cleared with 'su - anotheruser'

Looks like the old bug is back, when doing 'su - test' or any other user, and trying to launch any X app, it fails because of XDG_RUNTIME_DIR points to the original X session. Hello, I wonder, if it's possible to install and run a 32Bit LXC Linux guest in a 64Bit host system. Some Debian/Ubuntu guides mention the option "--arch" for "lxc-create" e.g.: https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/lxc.html But this option is not available in openSUSE and in LXC source code.
