[opensuse] KDE Menu with Language problem (Opensuse 11.4, KDE 4.6.5, 64bit)

Hi One of my logins has a option of 2 languages, English and Thai. It switches between the languages quite happily but when its on the English one, the menu is mainly in Thai. I can't get it back to using the correct language for the keyboard. [opensuse] 9 dot printers in Cups, where?

After some problems with my printers I want to connect my old and trusted 9 dot printer. It is an Epson LX-300. I could always find a ppd or other driver for this printer in former Suse versions in Cups or in the Yast printer setup but right now dot printers are nowhere to be found. Where to look? [opensuse] bash "make" error

Hello SuSE people, This is on 11.4 KDE4. Trying to compile a driver and make tells me my kernel is misconfigured. It tells me ": echo " ERROR: Kernel configuration is invalid."; echo " include/generated/autoconf.h or include/config/auto.conf are missing.";\ echo " Run 'make oldconfig && make prepare' on kernel src So I do that (I think) and I get this: make: *** No rule to make target `oldconfig'. Stop. I don't know what rule it wants or how to do it. Would some kindGURU help out the ignorant please? [opensuse] Missing Contrib and JAVA repository for 11.2

Hi, I've noticed that the Contrib and Java repository sub-directories are missing for 11.2. I get a 404 when I hit: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/11.2:/Contrib/standard/ And a 404 when I hit: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Java:/packages/openSUSE_11.2/ Do you know if these will be disabled for good? Is there an alternate URL for them? A variety of them. Most common is the machine freezing, probably a GPU related panic. No panic message in the logs, just freeze. Sometimes the cursor freezes as well. Sometimes its preceded by what I can only call 'reticulation', if you know the effect on photographic emulsion -- a sort of overlay of green pixelation that renders things unreadable. Sometimes, not always. The freeze is often total, the laptop doesn't respond to pings. But not always. And sometimes I can ssh in and do a proper shutdown. But most of the time it takes the hardware OFF button to fix. Software or hardware? [opensuse] Not sure what to make of this...

I'm running 11.3 on one hdd and W2K on a second hdd. On both I have the app needed to play an online rpg (GemStone IV). On the linux hdd, the app works fine, but I can't get the 'extra' to work with it so I can use the maps (it's called 'lich'). On the winblows side, this all worked quite well at one time (nothing to do with this post). I happened to notice yesterday, that after I'd played a short while on the linux hdd, I decided I wanted to try the windows app, just to see if I could get it working again. I left all the 'settings' (fonts I use for the most part on the linux hdd app) as they were, of course. Logged out and restarted the system to get to grub and choose windows. No problem. I boot into windows, get dialed in to my ISP and then start the app. I was able to get online into the game, *but*, the app was using the linux fonts! I have nothing installed on the windows hdd except Warcraft III and this app, oh and Firefox. That's it. no new fonts other than what the w2k cd installed. So, I adjusted the settings on the app to 'tahoma 10 pt', logged out and restarted the computer. Got to grub and chose opensuse 11.3. I get dialed in online and open the app and lo and behold, the app has the 'tahoma' settings! How is this possible? I don't have anything installed on the linux hdd that should be changing anything automagically on the winblows hdd, as far as I know. I *can* go to the windows hdd using krusader or whatever and copying back and forth, but that's just simple file stuff I do, nothing like installing anything from one hdd to another, like an app or anything. It has me a little nervous, because it seems like this is an easy way to somehow get onto my linux hdd and 'do stuff', no? Is this something I should be worrying about or is it just a fluke of RAM or something like that? [opensuse] Sort of OT: Win games running in VB.

Trying to get my son - a gamer - on Linux permanently ... Most of the games (Call of Duty, etc) I've tried will install - but - on play, which requires the same install CD, says that it's NOT the real CD but a backup and load the REAL install CD. Any ideas on the problem ? And a work around ?
