[opensuse] 9 dot printers in Cups, where?
After some problems with my printers I want to connect my old and trusted 9 dot printer. It is an Epson LX-300. I could always find a ppd or other driver for this printer in former Suse versions in Cups or in the Yast printer setup but right now dot printers are nowhere to be found. Where to look? Do they hide under a nice modern name? -- Linux User 183145 using LXDE and KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 11.4 (i586) Kernel: 3.0.0-rc7-4-desktop LXDE WM & KDE Development Platform: 4.6.5 (4.6.5) 19:46pm up 9:00, 4 users, load average: 1.06, 0.62, 0.51 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

There are not at all "printers in Cups". It is the printer driver RPM packages that provide the stuff which makes printer model names show up in whatever printer setup tools. I cannot know which printer driver RPM packages you have installed on your particular system. On my system (I won't tell you which exact system I have ;-) "lpinfo -m | grep -i dot" shows me several "Epson Dot Matrix". I assume it is at least openSUSE ;)

Johannes, On my system, for details see my signature ;) I get no dot printers after lpinfo -m | grep -i dot. After reading through the information material you supplied, I finally found http://www.openprinting.org/printer/Epson/Epson-LX-300plus. Thanks Ken Schneider, I was just there :) . -- Linux User 183145 using LXDE and KDE4 on a Pentium IV , powered by openSUSE 11.4 (i586) Kernel: 3.0.0-rc7-4-desktop LXDE WM & KDE Development Platform: 4.6.5 (4.6.5) 10:32am up 23:47, 4 users, load average: 0.65, 0.40, 0.24 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org

Maybe you should add http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Printing/openSUSE_11.4 to your repo list. You'll find a lot of OpenPrinting's PPDs there :-) Regards, Werner -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.16 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQEcBAEBAgAGBQJOKy+7AAoJEOfJ7bNoiiCNWqwH/2/PIH3hx4mFRggRAr6PVrW2 fqSFdXNkJiWRQVFH0AI6BChxFXZ1ipRFLjAmFTzHJTs7lW7LdLJJ34UGMeJhvN9f xqN7g5mQJLt+mWXe6VJfjFD2b0YReohn0tC38WMVwA/uynUsz4SI6h+xRBrx3VNL DA0POM6C2NbiEqYgeET9nGdW1cU8QgW9K/pnFfpZC37M8tgaKuO7583Pi+bt3Nqb WEj7iRiylz8rXOn45y8CtN4RHt3KxnNnSbUijDr+Y4Bx19FS9LpeKeNu4euFaelQ tQXoDX+os0HmVbr0HrD8+bfxSERaXPenecvW3fCBUbwJEqTYH1HTMclAC2ggjRQ= =ue0N -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
