[opensuse] call for NVIDIA testers of 11.2 kernel update

Hi folks, We are currently having difficulties with the 11.2 kernel update, to version 2.6.31.12-0.1.1. The kernel update is currently in the 11.2-test repo, http://download.opensuse.org/update/11.2-test/ This repo is used for testing our updates before they are pushed to the official 11.2 repo. A cursory test here showed that the NVIDIA drivers from the NVIDIA YMPs that were there before Christmas did not work with the new kernel. The ones published by NVIDIA after Christmas work with the test kernel. We would like to have some testcoverage with NVIDIA drivers and this kernel update. So if you have a NVIDIA card and use the drivers from either NVIDIA single click install (or even self installed ones), feedback would be appreciated. As this is the test repo, we recommend testers be able to recover from potential wrong updates, like a non booting kernel. If you do not know how to recover from such things, please just disregard this email. [opensuse] Bad sektor, but where?

In the dmesg I find an information telling me that I have a bad sector which according to the rest of the text is not liked by the system. It tells me that sector id 34777476 is the culprit. How can I find out where that sector is situated. I remember in former versions I could find the sectors of a partition. I think somewhere in the partition manager or with sfdisk or one of the other disk managers. [opensuse] multi-functional pointer device for ODP presentations

Hi all, Just wondering if anybody has had any experience doing presentations from a Linux machine using Open Office ODP's and using a hand-help laser pointer/button/mouse combo device. [opensuse] OpenSuSE, gnome and iPhone

Hi all, Just a little observation. While an iPhone 3G is not truly a USB mass storage device it syncs the photos to OpenSuSE 11.1 under KDE as well as to Ubuntu under Gnome but not to an OpenSuSE machine under Gnome. Would anyone know why that would be? Anything I may be missing? Thanks. The code in the MBR is set to boot whichever partition is active - ie, the "generic" mbr code. This was working till the moment I used "grub-install" on partition 1. If the active partition is #3, it boots fine. In the grub menu #3, I have an entry to boot grub #1: title Bombadil -- (via configfile in /dev/sda1) root (hd0,0) configfile /boot/grub/menu.lst If I use this entry, the partition #1 grub (bombadil) loads, and I can boot that oS. Therefore, its menu.lst is correct. In #3 I have another entry: title Bombadil -- via chainload - changes active boot to /dev/sda1 rootnoverify (hd0,0) makeactive chainloader +1 This one, which worked, does not work now. What it does is mark partition #1 as bootable, then boot it. This suggests that the boot code in #1 is incorrect. The symptoms is that, I see a message like "grub loadin stage something" (goes too fast for me to read it), blank screen, then the bios boot scren, and repeat, for ever. If I boot #1, and attempt to reinstall grub, it works, but later it fails to boot as described above: bombadillo:~ # grub-install GNU GRUB version 0.97 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory) [ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. If I run the automated rescue (11.2 retail DVD), and indicate I want to correct the boot loader, it insists on checking the filesystem (which is entirely correct), then insists on repairing fstab, which was correct, and in fact, destroys some entries that worked, and now don't. I had to remake fstab by hand. And worse, it does not repair boot from partition #1. How on earth can I FORCE Yast or grub to reinstall grub properly and sucesfuly? Dear All, I am using squidguard 1.4,when I set the src from my ldap server in squidguard. I got the syntax error,below is what I put in /etc/squidguard.conf src HR { ldapusersearch ldap://192.168.1.212/cn=HR,ou=groups,ou=example,dc=example,dc=lan?memberUid?sub?(&(objectclass=posixGroup)(memberUid=%s)) } after compared to the document of squidguard <http://www.squidguard.org/Doc/authentication.html> official website,I can not find any differences of syntax: src my_users { ldapusersearch ldap://ldap.example.com/cn=squidguardusers,ou=groups,dc=example,dc=com?memb… } If anyone has any ideas of what else I can do to fix it, do let me know.
