[opensuse] kopete always says "connecting" but won't connect

Hi all, As I am configuring my new system I am trying to get kopete to work. I have a windows live account, and I followed the standard configuration instructions. Once it loaded, kopete downloaded all my contacts, but it says they are all offline, and it always says "connecting" in my status. I know that some of my contacts are not off-line because at least 2 of them are in the same room with me connected to the internet! Any help will be greatly appreciated on how to get kopete fully up and running. [opensuse] Problem Updating After Installing from Build Service

I purchased a new laptop in June, shrank Windows and installed OpenSuSE 11.1. I added Build Service Repositories for FireFox and OpenOffice and was pleasantly pleased to find FF 3.5 available the day it was released. However, whenver attempting to run YaST online update, it tries to "update" to 3.0.11 (now 12). How can I prevent this other than manually changing the proposed update each time? Instead, it would be nice to restrict any updates to 3.5.x from the FF Build Service repository. [opensuse] NX on usb key

Hello, I'm an old user of VNC, but very recent one of NX (Freenx server, !m client for now). One advantage of VNC client is it's ability to be run from a floppy (say now a flash drive), from any computer. Is it possible to do the same with NX client? [opensuse] KDE4.3 RC3 and QTCurve not working together?

You would think I'd learn to leave a working system alone. :-P OK, at some point in the last day or so when I did an update to my 11.1 system, the GTK apps in KDE4 stopped using QTCurve, and started using that standard Gnome look (the stoneage desktop look). I tinkered with the GTK Look and Feel settings in the Configure Desktop window... restarted KDE a dozen times trying various settings, and while I could select other "looks", QTCurve (which is in the list) no longer works. I checked in YaST, and I've got qtcurve-kde4 0.65.1-10.1 from the KDE4 Factory repo installed... so that should be the right one... and there I stop.. not sure what else to look at. I would like to get the cleaner QTCurve look back so that the GTK based apps don't use the default Gnome theme. Any tips? or suggestions? [opensuse] Kmix, YaST and an explotion

hi list, - I'm digging deeper into my (no)sound problem which occured after some on-line autoupdate. - if I go into YaST and search for kmix, I see that 4.2.1-43.13 is installed but 4.2.1-43.14 is available. - if I select to update to this available version, YaST explodes in unfilled dependencies, it wants to DOWNgrade LOTS of packages. So i don't touch it. - eh....has anyone seen anything like this? Second question: I'd like to re-install all sound, I tried the hw/section of YaST, deleted all sound hw and re-fired YaST. It finds the sound hw just fine, but nothing works... [opensuse] cannot get network/internet in new installation

Hi all, I just installed 32 bit opensuse 11.1 on my Dell Latitude D820 in a swap partition (I think that is what you call it). Here is some background: I had installed 64 bit opensuse 11.1 on my Lenovo 3000 V200. I had some problems with the hardware and for reasons I won't explain here, I took out the hard drive and put it in my Dell Latitude D820. I have windows xp installed, as before, and so I had to reinstall windows xp on my dell when I switched it over. I left the swap partition untouched so that when I had a chance I would be able to reinstall opensuse on the dell. So what I am saying is that I have the same hard drive as I had in my lenovo, with a newly installed windows XP, the same data drive, and then the swap partition left intact. So this morning I went to install suse over my old installation, having just downloaded the 32bit version. I ran through the installation procedure and it all seems to work semi-ok. The grub loader works and I can boot up in windows or linux as I desire. One thing that is interesting - 1 of the 2 applications that I had installed on SUSE on my Lenovo is still there - googleEarth. Thunderbird is no longer there, but googleEarth is. Also my openoffice data files are still there. So I think the file system was left somewhat intact (I clicked "new installation" but kept the disk partitions as the installer detected them). However, in linux I cannot connect to the internet. Here on my windows platform it works fine, but in linux it doesn't seem to be working. Here are some things that I have found. On my device manager in Windows, the network adapters are listed as follows: - 1394 Net Adapter - Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx Gigabit Controller - Dell Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-Card So I went into YaST -> Hardware Information -> Network Card and this is what was listed: - Wireless 1390 WLAN Mini-card - NetXtreme BCM5752 Gigabit Ethernet PCI Express (eth0) Also I went into YaST -> Network Devices -> Network Settings and I got this warning: ******* Warning Network is currently controlled by Network Manager and its settings cannot be edited by YaST. To edit the settings, use Network Manager connection editor, or switch the network setup method to Traditional method with ifup. ******* When I click on the Network Manager and try to edit network settings, the same networks that I had detected on my Lenovo are still there. One of them is the same network I am trying to access here. It is a secured network and the access code was already entered, even though this is a new installation. However, I cannot seem to get the network card turned on and start detecting the network. My wireless switch on the computer is on, and I am able to access the internet freely from Windows, just not Linux. Any help will be appreciated. If you can tell me where/how to get more information about my computer in order to help the troubleshooting just let me know! Do not know when it started but if I want to reply, I do not have the quote from the email I am answering. Not always a problem but quoting or not is something I want to decide by myself.
