Well make sure you have the full path to the auto.shares in the auto.master. About the auto.shares, it should start with the token (storage, mythtv), no spaces. Use TAB to separate the columns and start the options with "-", just like the example in auto.misc. [opensuse] audio playback device does not work (sort of)

Greetings to all, When my computer boots up, I get the following error in a box on the top of my computer before it disappears: phonon the audio playback device HDA Intel (CONEXANT Analog) does not work. falling back to HDA Intel (STAC92xx analog). Then whenever I get email, I get a system beep, and because it is not through the regular speakers, it cannot be muted. I don't know if that is a related problem or not. Can someone tell me how to get the proper audio system thing working? [opensuse] Frustrated building inkscape 0.47, issue should be simple, just need a bit of help.

Hi David I'm just about to complete a build of inkscape0.47pre1 on openSUSE-11.0-32bit. The configure went fine (after I'd installed the necessary libary and include files). Prior to that I downloaded and built libgc. [opensuse] Linux Server Admins - Please Let Me Know Your Thoughts

Today I was approached by management (a different division that handles standards etc) and was told that I have to give a compelling reason of why I need to run Linux instead of the standard "windows". I need to come up with a nice list / document why by tomorrow.. but I'm so irritated right now, that I'm having a hard time formulate something in a professional matter.. So I'm reaching out to the sys admins here asking for some help and lists of some good reasonings.. I suppose they could be, but it was never needed in the past, and I definitely do some manual mounts on occasion. On 10.3 if I manually mounted drives, and then switched my network connection**, the mount would persist. On 11.1 the NFS mounts all drop immediately. **Switching my network connection using Network Manager. IP address stays the same. Other apps continue to work fine, as well as my smb mounts. It's just NFS mounts that croaks. I did look at the mount man page and did not see anything that looked like it would help. Not to fan an old flame I found an interesting problem I installed as KDE3 alone. Was able to select and manipulate screensavers. Then I installed KDE4 alongside KDE3 to see what I thought of KDE4. Screensavers are selectable in KDE4. KDE3, screensavers can no longer be selected/manipulated. The screen for it is there, just no screensavers. Uninstall the entire KDE4 pattern. Obviously can't do any KDE4 stuff and the KDE3 screensavers are still blank but they do start and display random screen savers. I'm thinking this is a symptom of a whole nother problem I've been fighting. kbluetooth does seem is recognize that there is a bluetooth adapter installed. kbluetooth4 does, although it's impossible to pair with either. For grins, I committed heresy... I booted a live kubuntu to assure the hardware was working and was able to pair perfectly. I don't think this is an upstream problem, unless opensuse used bleeding edge stuff to release. Anyway, any thoughts on how to resolve this? Listmates, I think I have looked for an answer before on this, but can't recall for certain. I'm trying to build inkscape 0.47 on openSuSE 11.0 and I'm running into problems with having libgc.a or libgc.so properly recognized by ./configure. [opensuse] Mail server HowTo?

I've decided to tinker with setting up a mail server. I've never done this before... so it's all new to me. I have a domain I want to use. It's set up with DynDNS to forward all web traffic to my local computer (which has a dynamic IP that my ISP likes to change at random.. usually at least twice per day). The webserver side works great.... my sub domains are responding correctly etc. I've added their Mail Hop Relay service to one of my domains. This should in theory provide MX records, and according to their website things are setup correctly on their side... so now it comes down to me and my local settings... and this is where things are not working exactly right. I've read through and attempted to follow this HowTo: http://en.opensuse.org/Mail_server_HOWTO which in theory should allow me to set up postfix. After reading and following the steps (I think I got it right) I've tested locally by using mailx and: - sending a mail to a regular local user works, and I see the mail arrive in /var/spool/mail/. - sending mail to an alias does not work (I see the bounce in /var/spoo/mail) - sending mail to external email addresses... disappears, and never arrives (at least not yet) Is there some clearer documentation that anyone knows about, or some other info I can read up on? Or any obvious things that I may have missed? Port 25 on my router is forwarded... the Mail Relay is set to use port 25... not sure where to look next. For whatever reason, Opera is now able to access the problematic website, as is Konqueror as well, so whatever its problem was has gone away. Only Firefox remains unable. I am hoping that the problem will now be more tractable. What I want to do now is to remove FF altogether, including the .mozilla directory, and reinstall it from scratch (first backing up e.g. the passwords file, bookmarks, etc). When I entered YaST to delete FF, I see that, besides FF itself, there is also another installed package called "MozillaFirefox-branding-opensuse". What is the function of this package? Is it necessary, or can it be omitted? More puzzling, highlighting this package opens a warning as follows: MozillaFirefox-branding-openSUSE-3.0.3.3.11_x86_64 requires MozillaFirefox >= 3.0.4-4.7, but this requirement cannot be provided. Firefox here is v3.0.12, which would seem to be enough, according to the notice. Why is it warning me? Hi all, I am trying to figure out how to mount my windows partition so that I can read data. I had to manually re-type that whole table instead of cut and paste from a terminal window.) Then in Konqueror when I try to click on the DATA label, nothing happens. I cannot read any of the data. I went into a terminal window and typed "mount" without any other parameters (and not on root permission because I don't really understand what "mount" does and I don't want to mess anything up). So if anyone can help me figure out how to get the drive sda2, or DATA mounted so that I can read data, then that will be great. I want to ultimately also write data, as I was able to do before when I had this drive on my other computer, but for now I will just get to where I can try and read the data.
