[opensuse] Using desktop cube

I am new to compiz and I am trying to learn to use 3D effects in KDE. I have enabled the desktop cube effect in openSuSE 11.1, KDE 4.1.3, but when pressing ctrl+alt and moving the mouse with button 1 pressed nothing happens. [opensuse] Howto Turn Off Widget "Flyout" on KDE4 Desktop Widgets?

Listmates, How do you turn of the "flyout" for lack of better words on all the KDE4 desktop widgets? What I'm calling the "flyout" is the vertical panel that appears either on the left or right side of each widget when you move your mouse over them that holds the "resize" "reload" "configure" and "close" buttons. It is quite annoying to have the flyouts popping like pop-corn all over the desktop every time you move the mouse on the desktop, and occasion they even cause the repositioning of the icons on my desktop (I'm sure they are not supposed to cause a repositioning, but if you have icons too close to the desktop edge [such as your trashcan icon] the flyouts will cause the icon to move 1/2 inch in cases) Since all of the options are already available just by right-clicking the desktop, where is the switch to disable to flyout behavior? -- David C. [opensuse] tomcat6 security update

You know, I wish someone would document the model that they are using for the installation of tomcat6 under SuSE. I am running SuSE11.0 and just got a security update for it. The rpm failed to install because it was expecting a different organization of the directories for Tomcat6 and could not change the name of the Catalina directory under /etc/tomcat6/Catalina. The new rpm was trying to change this to a link to point to /var/cache/tomcat6/Catalina Almost every version of SuSE has come out with a different directory organization for Tomcat and it NEVER follows the simple single root hierarchy of directories that the Jakarta Apache folks suggest and release Tomcat in. This constant reorganizing of Tomcat, (and it sometimes happens even within a single SuSE release, as happened this time) is proving to be a maintenance headache and I constantly am having to debug, fix and repair links and directories to follow suit. While I understand the addition of some of the scripts for controlling tomcat as a service, why can't the organization of the tomcat directories follow the same simple hierarchical directory pattern that developers over at Jakarta Apache release it in? Why is it necessary to break it up and have all these links, all over the place, piecing it back together? It might suit some few people to organize it differently, but for most of us KISS and Standards are the principals to best use. And without a description of the model that someone is trying to use, it makes it nearly impossible to understand the rational for organizing it the way it is being done under SuSE. [opensuse] How many disks?

Hi Folks, I've been working on a project for several years now that requires lots of disk space. We've got three servers, each with 40 directly connected 1-TB SATA disks. Now, the project is expanding and will require as many as 98 directly connected disks. I know that I can get the hardware and RAID (JBOD) controllers to mechanize this, but I'm not sure about the OS. How many individual disk (/dev/sdxx) drives can Linux support? BTW, we need directly connected disks because of the bandwidth limits that NFS throws up. I'd be happy to listen to alternatives. In addition to what problems I have already written about, I find now that in kde 4.3 that when I launch applications it just about stalls out the computer. HI all, I was sent two doc files that I can't open. I'm using open office and normally I can open them. [opensuse] lost fstab ??

I just discovered that my fstab is empty and I know not why, only that *I* did not remove/edit it. The timestamp is two days ago... I see a google entry that claims that "MountManager killed my fstab" and that may be what happened to me. "cat /proc/mounts " was suggested and is very similar but by drive name rather than by id. "cp /etc/mtab /etc/fstab was also offered but is also by disk name rather than id. Is there a way to regenerate fstab w/o editing it completely by hand? I ask because I have five internal disks and two external and the editing would be tedious and the disks are identified by id. Note that "yast disk" entries all show the correct mountpoints. Would copying mtab or /proc/mounts to /etc/fstab and then opening "yast disk" and accepting current parameters correct /etc/fstab?
