[opensuse] kde3 is gone... for 11.2

I just notice that there will be nomore kde3 for the upcomming openSUSE 11.2. I don't want to grin. Not necessary. I just wanted to ask here what do you have in kde3.5 and don't find in kde4 and you would like to have. Not to say you will have it but to give info to devs... I stopped using kde4 on 11.1 for problems in the config panel and lack of understanding of the new windows layout. [opensuse] curl error-connection time out

Today I finally installing opensuse 11.1 kde 4.2 in all machines. Q. Using yast software manager to update the system very often I get a curl error and a connection time out. I retry and everything is OK. Everything is working OK but I had to be behind the screen to interact all the time with this connection time outs. I do not remember anything like that previously. [opensuse] Annoying Desktop behaviour of Programmes

Hi all, what is beginning to be quite annoying is working with different Desktops. I have different working groups organised on a desktop each. I often have OpenOffice Writer, Calc and Firefox open on various desktops. When I open up a link on Desktop 1 in Thunderbird, a window opens on the latest FireFox I used prevously; the one on the other desktop I used last. I have to hunt down in which desktop it opened by going to each desktop and activate it. This also happens when I open an OpenOffice document or calc file with konqueror. Closing all apps on the desktops before going to another desktop defeats the purpose of having different desktops - or have I missed the rational behind different desktops. ATI botched a couple of driver releases that not even Stefan could compile for 11.1. The key here I think is 11.1. ATI hasn't released a driver to date that will work with my hardware and 11.1. Anders and others are doing OK with the 9-3 release (although I suspect if they compare the 11.1 fglrx driver performance to that of the Sept. 08 driver running on 11.0 or 10.3 they would be wildly disappointed by the comparison.) The problem is there is no "measuring stick" or a good performing driver that will compile against 11.1. I know in my experience with the 8-10, 8-11, 8-12, and 9-1 fglrx drivers, my graphics performance on my laptop with an X1200/x1300 chipset all the foregoing drivers suffer greater than a 40% performance loss compared against the 8-9 driver. I would like to see the test results of others who think the 9-3 driver is doing OK, comparing (1) the glxgears frame rates w/default window size, and (2) the overall feel and responsiveness of the graphics subsystem against their same hardware running 11.0 or 10.3 with the 8-9 driver. I would be willing to wager their would be a bunch of bruised chins from all the "jaw dropping" that would occur when the performance penalty of the recent ATI drivers is actually measured in black-and-white. It's almost impossible to tell how much of a performance hit you have taken just by looking at the screen and saying "yes, it looks OK" without doing an actual comparison. As for Peter, the only thing I can think of is just to plug libstdc++.so.5 into webpin on 11.1 and see what packages come back and then install those packages to get around his compile problem. The search on 11.1 says the package is provided by the following. [opensuse] [11.0] Can't find deps req'd by 2.6.27 kernel

Because https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=406035 is WONTFIX against the release it was filed under, I was forced to find a newer kernel that includes its fix. Back in December I found one at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/ilya_41/openSUSE_11.0/i586/ . Now that location includes a newer kernel version. I tried to update to that newer version, but it requires updates to other packages: module-init-tools 3.4-56.9 perl-Bootloader 0.4.81.1 http://software.opensuse.org/search and webpin can only find me the already installed versions, not the newer ones required by the newer 2.6.27.21 kernel packages. Can someone tell me how to satisfy this dep problem? Do I just install those two packages from the 11.1 update repo even though I'm on 11.0? Listmates, I'm a bit troubled by the current "Sweep the bug under the rug" philosophy I am seeing all too often with bugzilla. Latest example is: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=488463 Why not fix the easy ones? The point/question being, "What justifies leaving openSuSE broken when the fix is simple?" [opensuse] help debugging a failed zypper upgrade?

i've been running zypper/aria2 from /HEAD for a bit; updates from repos have been fine. a few days ago, the repos 'forced' a downgrade. once accepted (for a test) ... (1) i'm trying to 'read' the zypper "offer" below to figure out which _specific_ rpms are _preventing_ an upgrade without deinstalling a bunch. from the output below, to me it's not clear if one. or many, rpms are actually the 'culprit'. [opensuse] ATI -> NVIDIA on openSUSE 11.1

I have replaced my ATI card (that was no longer supported in the ATI driver) with an NVIDIA 9400 GT. I was sort of hoping that the Compiz stuff would begin to work. But no joy. I do now get the XVideo stuff, which I did not get with the ATI card, and is the official reason for the upgrade. I have removed all the ATI stuff, and installed the NVIDIA stuff as packaged by Novell. I also have the http://download.nvidia.com/opensuse/11.1 repository enabled. The nvidia kernel driver is installed. lspci lusts this for the nvidia card: Kernel driver in use: nvidia Kernel modules: nvidia, nvidiafb So I think I have the correct components installed. glxinfo lists Nvidia as the GL implementation, which I guess is required. I have run the Compiz setup program, and so I guess that is correct. Hard to say as there is no complaint. But in software, no news seldom equates to good news. I'm a software developer :) I don't see any complaints in /var/log. I have looked at the various SUSE wiki pages for this. But they seem to be very dated. [opensuse] Nokia Nseries and gnokii

Hi there, I have a Nokia N82 and can't get it running with gnokii 0.6.26 on openSUSE 11.1 Below you can see my gnokii.rc When I try e.g. "gnokii --getphonebook ME 1 end" I only get "Error reading from the location 1 in memory ME Error: Unknown error - well better than nothing!!" gnokii --identify actually does work. The phone is connected via USB and of course I chose "PC Suite" as connection method. I already reported to the gnokii mailing list, but without any response yet. So I wonder, has anyone of you a running gnokii with a Nseries devide like N82, N95 or similar?
