[opensuse] OpenOffice/Konqueror problem under OpenSuSE 11.1

Hello listmates, We use OpenOffice presentations which sometimes invoke external resources. Under OpenSuSE 10.3/KDE 3 the multimedia files would simply get open in whatever application is specified in the Konqueror as default, and executables such as scripts would simply be executed. Now under OpenSuSE 11.1/KDE4/OpenOffice 3 what I get is that the multimedia files (at least .mov) get open in Konqueror (as opposed to Mplayer specified as default) and scirpts would get open in atext editor as opposed to being directly invoked as executables. Has anyone encountered this problem? Has anyone resolved it? Thanks. [opensuse] YaST Repair

YaST does not show the same packages that zypper (through konsole, after su -) does. This was particularly after I updated to KDE 4.2; also have KDE 3.5 installed. Doing the foll, after su to root from init 3 # rpmdb --rebuilddb # zypper refresh -b # zypper up gives a totally different set of packages (which are correct, going by the version numbers), than what YaST shows. Search showed me the yast2 Repair Tool at http://packages.opensuse-community.org/packageinfo.jsp?checksum=b508b5f52d3… . Any idea what this does; how I can repair YaST GUI to accurately show updates and packages ? [opensuse] Beagle never quits!

Just like any good hound dog, on my system beagled never stops! After the system has been idle for a few minutes beagled will start up and start burning CPU. At first I thought this was expected behavior. Then I noticed that it isn't actually doing anything and it never stops! I can tell it isn't indexing anything because the hard drive is not running and no matter how long I leave the system beagled keeps burning CPU. On my laptop this causes the fans to run on max and is just generally kind of annoying. [opensuse] kernel panic - openSUSE 11.1 (x86_64) on Intel Atom 230 mobo (D945GCLF)

I get a kernel panic during the install of the x86_64 version on an Intel D945GCLF (Atom 230). I have tried the "safe mode" and "no apic" options but no success. From what I have read on the 'Net, Atom 230 is a 64 bit cpu; I guess it should be able to run the 64bit version. [opensuse] One-click or not?

Hello SuSE people, Just reinstalled 11.1 (my testing distro) with KDE 4.1. I say reistalled because I did the one-click in 11.1 to have a look at KDE 4.2. There were all kinds of dependencies,and the one click installed the 11.2 alpha kernel. (Used the wrong repo?) whatever ! Reinstalled and KDE 4.1 is really lacking. Now, I do want to try KDE 4.2 but I have seen a couple of threads aarguing the merits of the one-click and the change in QT. I also read that it is better to just load the 4.2 repositories and upgrade from them. So, what's the deal ? Has somebody really defined what is the best way to upgrade to 4.2 , and what QT should be used? Opinions ? Advice? [opensuse] no XDM via VNC under OpenSuSE 11.1

Hello listmates, When I connect to an 11.1 machine using VNC I see a X-Display but no login prompt (just a display). On the console, the XDM runs fine. It appears a few people out there are discussing the issues related to VNC under 11.1 but I have yet to see anyone offer a solution. Is there a solution? Thanks. [opensuse] Firefox Version Wierdness

This morning I turned on my laptop and launched Firefox. (I'm running openSUSE 10.3/KDE.) I got the message that it was checking my add-ons to see if I had the correct versions. Figuring Firefox had updated via YOU, I checked the version. I was on 3.0.6. I just now restarted Firefox since I had closed it earlier. I got the same message, and then noticed a Mozilla web page stating I should be on the latest version for better security. I checked the version and am now on 3.0.5.
