[opensuse] Audio and Video systems in v11,1

In this newly installed openSuSE v11.1 system, I find that: 1) I cannot play CDs --when I insert a disk, the expected window for selecting the application that I expect to open it never appears. Even if the application is open before I insert the CD, and if I choose "Play" in its menu, nothing happens. (OpenSuSE v10.3 is still installed in a separate HD in the box; there the app selection box does opwn. and the CD does play.) 2) In viewing the CNN website, when I check on a page that contains a video clip, the clip never loads. Nothing else on the page works either -- thumbnails do not appear, and links although they are selected. All the proper JavaScript are permitted, and cookies are permitted. (In the 10.3 installation, all this works.) 3) When I insert a DVD, a small box appears, containing the name of the film and nothing more, then disappears after about two seconds. Tne application selection window does not appear. Yesterday I did see a website (joost.com) with film clips that I was able to see, but there too there was no sound. (Firefox has many plugins -- Mplayer, Windows Media, Quicktime, Real Player, DivX, and GCJ.) [opensuse] Widgets Plasmoid question

Q1. How do you remove the widget from the Add Widget lists? For example I have two version of the same widget. BTW there is a new version of the Mac OS widget ridetherobots that is impressive and you can scroll the images (ridetherobots.org) Q2. Seems to be some interaction between the plasmoids on the panel and the ones on the 'desktop' eg: I have the system tray on the panel. Then I add a system tray on the 'desktop'. The results is random: sometimes I see on the desktop sometimes the one on the panel is gone and I have to add it again. The system tray is an important one because if running well I can remove the panel and have only a launcher and system tray plasmoid but I have not being able to get a stable state here. If I remove the panel and I add the system tray as plasmoid and then create other activities, sometimes I see the system tray on the other activities but corrupted. [opensuse] mt352 doesn't work after resume from hibernation

Hi, using my 11.1 with kernel 2.6.27.7-9-default after a resume from hibernation my Airstar DVB card doesn't work unless I reload the mt352 driver (and b2c2_flexcop + b2c2_flexcop_pci). The error reported in dmesg is b2c2-flexcop: i2c master_xfer failed mt352_read_register: readreg error (reg=0, ret==-121) b2c2-flexcop: i2c master_xfer failed mt352_read_register: readreg error (reg=0, ret==-121) b2c2-flexcop: i2c master_xfer failed mt352_read_register: readreg error (reg=0, ret==-121) b2c2-flexcop: i2c master_xfer failed mt352_read_register: readreg error (reg=0, ret==-121) b2c2-flexcop: i2c master_xfer failed mt352_read_register: readreg error (reg=0, ret==-121) reloading the drivers restores functionality. Is there a fix for this problem? [opensuse] cp, xfs and reiserfs..

Now I'm a bit puzzled.. I'm using cp -vua for some directory backups, and I just noticed that copying isn't really consistent between file systems.. It seems like when copying from xfs to reiser, all content is ALWAYS copied, no matter if it's been changed, accessed or anything. All other copy actions works fine, and only changed/new files are copied. Reiser -> reiser : Good Reiser -> xfs : Good Xfs -> reiser : Nope, everything is always copied. Am I missing something? [opensuse] Need some help with a script

I have a slight problem, i dont know enough about scripting! My daughter and a friend of hers has been "chatting" via a community page for almost 6 months, writing a collaborate story together. The problem with the youngsters is that they top-post... So trying to read the story in its completion is almost impossible without going crazy... The text is written in short two/three sentence groups all spaced with the same kind of header. its all saved in a long textfile (Some 300 pages worth) <cut> ---------- (This is 10 dashes...) I feel like I have a better sense of options and abilities now. John: I have no idea what the answers to your questions might be. I have not purposely checked or set any of the apparent options you have asked about. At this point I am using a "stock" 11.0 x64 system, with nothing specifically modified or changed from the defaults. I am on a cable modem so generally see pretty fast downloads and uploads and don't recall having used torrent before. I had seen it referenced in other posts but never had a need. It always sounded like it ought to be either more efficient or quicker, or both, so when an opportunity to d/l a large file, 11Gb, 4 movies, and torrent was the only option, I said, why not? Then a d/l speed from slow to slower to "I think maybe I could telephone the file by reading one's and zero's quicker" got my wonder up. I stopped the d/l, but think I recall only about 9 seeders so this may have been an effect of very few users, as suggested by other responders. Your questions open up a new world, so I can see that if I want to enter this world I have some studying to do. Any suggestions for good reading? I usually just start to do searches in the Suse knowledge base. Thanks for your interest and time in responding. I can't seem to remember how to have each desktop in KDE 4.2 have individual taskbars. By that I mean: If I move evolution to desktop 2 then I want only desktop 2 to see that on it's taskbar. -- Michael S. [opensuse] No boot screen anymore...

Hey gang, After an kernel update with Yast (last year...took me a while to remember to ask about this!), when I rebooted my (10.3) system, instead of a nice green (or hope of hope, the penguins) screen, I get a bunch of words in a large(ish) font scrolling by real fast before the login screen finally pops up (it looks like the stuff one would later find in /var/log of somekind). What happened? Why did a kernel update change my nice green screen to this suddenly? How do I get my screen back instead of this humongous ugliness of gibberish scrolling along? Is it something to do with menu.lst, which this is what mine looks like: ------------- # Modified by YaST2. Hello all, I have tried getting the sound working on my dell D630 with opensuse 11.1 BUT got no head way yet.
