When I try to mount the DFS share from the Linux box mount.cifs, the following error occurs: #mount -t cifs //172.29.1.11/dfsroot /mnt/dfs -o user=userid,pass=password,dom=DOM mount error 66 = Object is remote Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs) # Please let me know whether I'm missing out anything. [opensuse] can't send mail using seamonkey on comcast

I have been using seamonkey on suse 10.3 and 11.0, , on comcast for 2 years, no problem sending mail. Now I can't send mail. Comcast was no help, as usual. I checked google and the problem was that comcast does'nt use port 25 for smtp.comcast.net server, they use port 587, So I changed the port from 25 to 587 folowing instructions on internet. Called comcast again, still can't send mail, they don't support seamonkey. Comcast said they do this to protect me from viruses. They want me to use Outlook and Internet Explorer, I say thats where all the viruses are received, thats why I use seamonkey or thunderbird in linux. Still no help. They don't support linux. I put my problem on comcast & seamonkey newsgroups but the users there are micro$oft brainwashed. I can use seamonkey in win XP to send mail. Comcast did something to prevent linux users from using seamonkey or thunderbird. [opensuse] Strange i/o difference between identical webservers

I have 3 webservers. They are symmetrically load-balanced in the DNS, so the HTTP requests and the numbers of requests per second are identical. They run apache (with worker MPM), and serve a lot of small static files (about 1KB ) which are in a big directory tree in ReiserFS. The total size of these files is 3GB. The apache is compiled identically, the configuration of apache is also identical. Networking/firewall configuration is identical, there's no other software on the machines. Hardware configuration is almost identical: Server 1: 2x3GHz 1MB L2 64bit Xeons, 4GB RAM, SATA Server 2: 2x3.06 512KB L2 32bit Xeons, 4GB RAM, Ultra320 SCSI Server 3: 2x2.66 512KB L2 32bit Xeons, 6GB RAM, Ultra320 SCSI Server 1: SuSE 9.3 (x86-64) 2.6.11.4-21.12-smp Server 2: openSUSE 11.0 (i586) 2.6.25.5-1.1-pae Server 3: openSUSE 10.3 (i586) 2.6.22.17-0.1-bigsmp There are no hardware problems that I know of (nothing can be seen in /var/log/messages, nor in ipmitool System Event Log) The problem is with Server 3: it's load average is 4-5x of the other two. It is very small for good servers, and about 100x larger for the problematic server. Note that all servers have plenty of free RAM, so caching files by OS *should not* be a problem. Same thing is shown by sar -d %util is very small for good servers, and about 30-70% for the overloaded server. Could someone shed any light on the possible source of this mysterious disparity? [opensuse] Xine Not Working in KDE 4

Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you gotten it to work with desktop effects enabled? [opensuse] openSUSE 10.3 with compiz on AMD64

Is there a problem with compiz on AMD64? I enabled compiz a week or two ago, and am now getting a number of SIGSEV messages from KDE. They result in all windows losing their title bars, but otherwise everything works OK. I just have to close the session and restart to get window decorations back. Just wondered if it was a known problem, or if there was anything I could do about it. ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 Series (RV5157146) graphics card, BTW. Fully up-to-date driver from the repository. However now, if I try to get to the ATI control centre I get an error message saying: "There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center Linux edition. It could be caused by the following: No ATI graphics driver is installed, or the ATI driver is not functioning properly. Please install the ATI driver appropriate for you [sic] ATI hardware, or configure using aticonfig" According to YAST, the driver version is: 8.493_2.6.22.17_0.1-1.2 I tried running aticonfig --initial, but that didn't change anything. The control centre used to come up just fine. I can't prove that its current failure is down to compiz being enabled, though. Not a major problem. [opensuse] Still trying to get OpenVPN & Knetworkmanager to work

I've been trying to get OpenVPN to work with Knetworkmanager on OpenSUSE 11.0, but not having much luck. I have configured a VPN connection, but when I try to start it, it does not work. I am using values that I had previously used in my own scripts. In the meantime I tried an Upgrade similar to that described on http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Upgrade . But this procedure doesn't work for me. At first I ensured that the GNOME:STABLE: repository as given in http://en.opensuse.org/GNOME/Software_Repositories is configured and activated. The only other activated repositories are - as given in http://en.opensuse.org/Package_Repositories - the main repository (http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/oss) and the Non-oss repository (http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/10.3/repo/non-oss). Other repositories I don't want to activate because they are not mentioned in "Upgrading KDE on openSUSE" and may perhaps cause harm when more packages are upgraded as necessary. I refreshed all repositories. According to "Upgrading KDE on openSUSE" I shall invoke Software Management now and select an installation source for KDE. Then I shall right-click on a package and select "Update ...". But both actions are not possible for GNOME-YaST. I cannot select an installation source so that all corresponding packages are selected and I cannot make a right-click in a package list what shows a context menu. It would be very desirable to have a similar HOWTO for GNOME as that for KDE on http://en.opensuse.org/HOWTOs. I want to thank you for replying. I already send three postings to the opensuse list and got no reply. In my third posting I made some thoughts about making an upgrade with zypper. After rpm --rebuilddb has worked I see that "zypper if" shows for all tested packages the repository "openSUSE BuildService - GNOME:STABLE" (download.opensuse.org/repositories/GNOME:/STABLE/openSUSE_10.3/). That surprises me because I never installed GNOME components from the Build service by design. After reading "Upgrading KDE on openSUSE" I am a bit cautious to work with zypper ("WARNING: 'zypper up -t package' will upgrade all packages from all repositories to newer versions, potentially moving you off many supported packages and onto unsupported packages.") That's why I want to restrict the active repositories as far as possible. On the other side I don't want to run into problems because of unresolved dependencies. That's why I want to run a check with zypper if all active repositories are sufficient for a GNOME update. How can I do that? The man page of zypper shows no option for such a check. Thanks a lot.
