[opensuse] GConf schema installer error, battery_low_percentage cannot be zero

When I try to add a new panel to GNOME, it was failed. I forgot the error message. After restart, the gnome panel is gone, and this error keep showing up : GConf schema installer error, battery_low_percentage cannot be zero How do I fix it to get my gnome panel back? You look for a viewer and pdftk is not a viewer. It was a hint for persons that want to work on PDF viewers. pdftk has a fill_form operation that "fills the single input PDF's form fields with the data from an FDF file or stdin." Also relevant is the dump_data operation (that tells which form fields are in a PDF file) and the flatten operation (that "merges an input PDF's interactive form fields (and their data) with the PDF's pages.") These are NOT the permission changes that you mentioned, this is a different functionality. Btw, allowing PDF annotations with acroread are a whole different matter whatsoever. No open source tool is known to me that allows that -- AFAIK, one needs to digitally sign the file with a key from Adobe for that. What means that the difficulties are very high to achieve that functionality. Lastly, in case, that this was too implicit: I follow the PDF tool landscape closely, and, to my knowledge, there is no PDF viewer on Linux that does what you want. [opensuse] Prevent applications from stealing focus in Gnome

The more I work with Gnome, the more annoyed with it I become. In KDE, there is a config setting where you can tell it to prevent applications from stealing focus. Is there anything at all in Gnome that is similar? I start up applications in Gnome, and continue working on/in another application (eg a document or an email)... when the app I started finally surfaces, it steals the focus and I end up typing a whack of stuff into the new application. I guess I am too impatient. In KDE I can set it to start apps in the background and it works perfectly. I have yet to find such a setting in this Gnome thing. Any suggestions? [opensuse] System Guard (or like) Reports

I was trying to watch a process to see how a particular application (one I'm writing in Java) is performing over time. In Windows NT (XP/2K/2K3) there is a tool (perfmon) I can use to track system memory, processor, disk I/O, and other items. I can also write values out to a log for future analysis. I know there is KDE system guard. I've looked and found a nice article from the now-defunct TuxMagazine (http://www.tuxmagazine.com/node/1000153) but nothing more interesting. What can I use to measure system performance and write it out to some form of file. I'd like to import the file in a apreadsheet for example. [opensuse] Trying to resolve a dependency.

Hello all, I'm trying to install a package that depends on libasound.so.2. It is expecting it to be in /lib however in SuSE it is located in /usr/lib/ In /usr/lib there are three libraries that look like this: Libasound.so Libasound.so.2 Libasound.so.2.0.0 I've tried making sim links to these in /lib/ but still the rpm will not install. I've even tried copying the libraries over to that directory but no change. Do any of you have any suggestions as to where I'm going wrong with this? [opensuse] reiser and ext3 confusion

I upgraded some lan clients to 10.2. I notice that new installs use ext3. Is the latter better? Faster? Is there a problem with reiser? Why did suse change it? My nfs server is cli 7.2 with ext2. Is it wise to export nfs between differing filesystems? Or can I assume that if it isn't broke then don't fix it? [opensuse] System Update to 2.6.22.2-ccj52-default Killed Atheros Wireless

Hello All, In one of my less brilliant moves, I thought I would try "system update" in Yast on 10.2 on my Toshiba P35 laptop. The kernel was updated to 2.6.22.2-ccj52-default. The first major problem is that the updated kernel will not load the atheros mad-wifi driver. The kernel module is still there under /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/ath/ath_pci.ko but does not exist under 2.6.22.2-ccj52-default. Yast shows mad-wifi installed, but the ath_pci.ko module cannot be loaded with either modprobe or insmod: 10:25 Rankin-P35a:/home/david # modprobe ath_pci FATAL: Module ath_pci not found. 10:25 Rankin-P35a:/home/david # insmod /lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/ath/ath_pci.ko insmod: error inserting '/lib/modules/2.6.18.8-0.3-default/updates/ath/ath_pci.ko': -1 Invalid module format Is there anything short of downgrading the kernel that may fix the problem. If not, does anybody have a good link to a howto for downgrading the kernel or should I just blow away this install and start over???

Hallo, ich muss aus Zwecken der Archivierung alle Dokumente die auf einem bestimmten Drucker gedruckt werden gleichzeitig noch in einer Datei (am besten tif, kann aber auch gerne ps sein) ablegen. Jetzt fehlt mir die Idee wie ich die Druckausgabe gleichzeitig auf 2 Drucker bekomme. I got compiz-fusion running on both 10.3 and 10.2 X68-64 dual core and without xgl. It was a 4 day battle, but I won in the end. Here is what I did. 10.2 I pretty much followed http://www.benkevan.com/blog/?p=66, which did not work completely.. Then I changed the repository to http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/xorg73/openSUSE_10.2, upgraded the compiz-fusion, xorg, & mesa rpms. (These had all been upgraded before but the 7.3 repository had slightly later versions). The copoy/paste of #! /bin/sh compiz –replace ccp & emerald –replace ccp & from http://www.benkevan.com/blog/?p=65 did not work right. Ended up I had to change the - to --. I also added the nvidia repository and had already installed the invidia kernel drivers previously. 10.3 First, adding the 10.2 nvidia repository did not work. I would not recognize the drivers as they were for the wrong version of kernel. I downloaded the NVIDIA-Linux-x86_64-100.14.11-pkg2.run and ran it with the -q option. The -q is a must. Ended up that I needed to do this again after I updated xorg for some reason or another, so you might want to do this last. Used the XGL:/X11 repositories first, the the xorg73 repositories. in Yast. Most of the packages were not upgraded, even though they were in the repositories. I ended up downloding those that did not upgrade and installed them manually. If fact, I had to get the emerald-themes from the suse 10.2 repositoy. Hopefully by the time 10.3 is released, this will all get straightened out, otherwise, it is really a big hassle. As far as the nvidia-config line from http://www.benkevan.com/blog/?p=65, again another copy paste error on the -, but it still did not work. Unrecognized --compite etc. Ended up I had to do each option individually, then it worked. my xorg config added lines are as follows: Under screen Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen[0]" Device "Device[0]" Monitor "Monitor[0]" DefaultDepth 24 Option "AllowGLXWithComposite" "True" Option "RenderAccel" "True" Option "AddARGBGLXVisuals" "True" SubSection "Display" and at the end Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "Enable" EndSection Compiz is much faster and the compiz setting application is very nice. Have to play around with all of the plug-ins and see what I really want to use. Both CPUs are running 4 to 6 %. If I rotate the cube, etc., 1 cpu will jump up to about 16% for only a short time while I am rotating the cube. Now I will have to install this on my laptop at work where I have WinXP running under parallels on Suse 10.2. Hopefully parallels will work with it as I do max out the 2 cpus on it quite often with a simulation program that only runs under winxp. Thanks to all that helped on the mail list. Strange but with some usb units attached to my 10.2 running computer, some of the attachments are readily seen and can be used right away. My usb memory stick does not stir any activity but if I use my cardreader with one of the slots occupied it give me the well known choices. What is the cause of this phenomena? Hi all, Need some help with sed: I have a txt file that contains some 15000 lines, where i want to bring in some structure. First is to replace the first (only the first) space in the line with a <TAB>. After that I want to delete a given number of characters that always begin with the same sequence, but may have different contents. Beginning is always the same, and length to delete is also always the same. I used sed 's/^ /\t/' txtfile, but I do not get a tab. Besides, this might do more then just the first space, I guess. [opensuse] Shutting down ZENworks Management failed

Hey guys, After a fresh install of 10.2 and updates through YaST online update I still have the problems with updating. 1. There are two guys who manage updating, openSUSE updater Applet and Software Update(blue globe), I guess they both do the same job, don't they? So which one I should use? Is it dependent only on my preference? 2. the "blue globe" keeps saying that ZMD is not running(tried restarting, during of which Shutting down ZENworks Management gives failed), though I have biophystheory:/home/Floyd # rczmd status Checking for ZENworks Management Daemon: running usually when I do, it goes like biophystheory:/home/Floyd # rczmd restart Shutting down ZENworks Management Daemon failed Starting ZENworks Management Daemon done and nothing changes, but even when it gives done, some NUllReference Error occurs from that blue globe updater and it closes... Anybody else is having this? Hello all, I've SuSE 10.2 installed here and I'm having a few issues with dependencies. Perhaps someone could point me in the right direction for these libraries? I did find an rpm for libasound from GWDG.be but that was incompatible with the installed version of Alsa. Hi all, I am looking to update OOo.org and perhaps Thunderbird, although I have just got the Reply-to-list working on Thunderbird 1.5. I have the version of OOo 2.0.4.7 and Thunderbird 1.5 that shipped with the 10.2 DVD. Would adding the following source to my update sources(Configured software catalogues) enable me to have the opensuse updater retrieve the necessary information and inform me that there is an update selected to be installed next time I agree to install software updates. Link to add as HTTP source: http://repos.opensuse.org/OpenOffice.org:/STABLE/10.2/ Would the Opensuse updater be able to go from OOo.org version 2.0.4 build 2.0.4.7 to the most recent stable version for OpenSUSE? If I decide to update Thunderbird, could I use a link similar to the one above? If I should do a Thunderbird update and certain features ie Reply-to-list stop working, can I just select an earlier version in Yast:Software after I have searched for Thunderbird? This is probably all in a manual somewhere but I do not have a link to it. I have had a look at opensuse102_kdeuser.pdf and opensuse102_reference.pdf and still my knowledge is deficient. Continuing my ideea, the explanation is that xorg and matlab processes fully occupy the two cores.
