[opensuse] Partially seeding OpenSUSE 10.3 DVD

Hi everyone! I'm currently seeding the DVD for OpenSUSE 10.3. Just one problem: Since the file is ~4GB it does not fit into RAM, so Azureus is _constantly_ causing disk access. What I want to do is tell Azureus to randomly select, say, 500MB of the file and only seed _this_ part. That way, all data could come from the fs-cache and the hard disk could be completely silent. Is there a way to do this in Azureus (or any other program)? I googled for a solution, but could not find anything that I can use. [opensuse] OpenSuSE 10.3: Where is Mounting network filesystems on startup?

Hi! In OpenSuSE 10.2 was boot script that automatically mount network filesystems from fstab after network start. In OpenSuSE 10.3 it's don't work and i don't find script that must do it in /boot Where is it? ... a 32-bit system can't be upgraded to a 64-bit system, given that it's on hardware that will support it. I realize that virtually every file will need to be replaced, but that's apparently also true when upgrading from an earlier 32-bit system to a later 32-bit system. It would save a lot of effort and worry about losing personal data that one wouldn't want to lose. (I've not worked with a 64 bit system before now, but I'm guessing that an email store is an email store, a database is a database, and a config file is a config file, regardless of the executables that access them.) Is it simply impossible for updater software running in 64-bit mode to examine and evaluate components designed to run in 32-bit mode? [opensuse] Graphics printing problems - Adobe Acrobat Reader

I have trouble printing pages with complex graphics from Adobe Acrobat Reader. I have always had this problem, and just tried an upgrade to 8, but it is still there. With AAR 7.? printing would stop on a page with some graphics. I did some fiddling to tell it to conserve printer memory or something, and the page would print, but with black rectangles where the graphics should be. With my upgrade to 8.1.1, printing would quit as before, and when I set it to conserve printer memory it would just hang with the printer "busy" message flashing for an hour. Some graphics print just fine. The irony is that I have always been able to print these documents quickly and correctly from Windows XP running in a VMWare window on the same system to the same printer. It is kind of odd to tell people this is one of the reasons I have to keep a working Windows installation on my system. Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas as to what's going on? [opensuse] Help with KIWI

Hi, struggling with this software. I've followed the guides and installed the Kiwi packages & templates (this is on a 32 bit 10.2 machine). I run kiwi -p /usr/share/kiwi/images/netboot/suse-10.2 with the default template file. This prepares the image. I then run kiwi -c /tmp/kiwi.X -d /tmp which creates the initrd & kernel files. I call these from a TFTP/DHCP server (it makes no diff). I then boot the machine It loads the kernel and boots up with the following: /init: line 88: IncludeKernelParameters: command not found /init: line 125: setupnetwork: command not found /init: line 132: checkTFTP: command not found -----> Checking TFTP Server name: tftp. -----> TFTP Server: tftp. not found -----> Using: from dhcpd-info -----> Checking for config file: config /init: line 174: searchAlternativeConfig: command not found -----> Registering new network client... -----> Registered As: -----> Waiting for configuration... -----> Checking for config file: config. /init: line 227: searchAlternativeConfig: command not found -----> Couldn't get image configuration -----> sleeping [60 sec]... -----> Lookup network client config file again... etc... So it's obviously looking for some additional files from the TFTP server but the notes are very vague as to what they are. If I change the config.xml file at the preparation stage so that the preferences section read: <preferences> <type filesystem="ext3" boot="netboot/suse-10.2">pxe</type> ... </preferences> The kiwi -p command just spits out continuous images until you hit cancel. Think I'm going to have to bin this software as I've been fiddling for days with it and just can't make head nor tail of it. Could anyone shed some light? [opensuse] DVD and mount failure 10.3

Hi all: I had to upgrade 10.2 to 10.3 from an iso image stored on a local drive since the installer would lose the dvd after the initial load. The upgrade went smoothly after removing some non-official packages. When the installation finished I realized that the dvd units were not longer accessible. Actually when introducing a DVO/VD in the drive, the HAL daemon reports "mount: block device /dev/sr1 is write-protected, mounting read-only. mount: Not a directory". Mounting from the shell gives the same error message: rleal@linux:~> sudo mount -t iso9660 /dev/sr1 /media/dvdram2 mount: block device /dev/sr1 is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: Not a directory I don't think it's a matter or permissions: rleal@linux:~> ls -l /dev/sr* brw-rw----+ 1 root disk 11, 0 2007-10-07 13:40 /dev/sr0 brw-rw----+ 1 root disk 11, 1 2007-10-07 13:40 /dev/sr1 dmesg indicates: sr 0:0:1:0: [sr1] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE,SUGGEST_OK sr 0:0:1:0: [sr1] Sense Key : Hardware Error [current] sr 0:0:1:0: [sr1] Add. Sense: Logical unit communication CRC error (Ultra-DMA/32) end_request: I/O error, dev sr1, sector 72 When booting opensuse using the previous version of the kernel (2.6.19 vanilla, compiled in 10.2 with gcc4.1) both of my dvd drives are recognized and work (at least I can read from them). The devices are 2 LG RW DVD drives: <6>ata1.00: ATAPI: HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GSA-H22N, 1.00, max UDMA/66 <6>ata1.01: ATAPI: HL-DT-STDVD-RAM GSA-H22N, 1.00, max UDMA/66 Questions: - is this a bug in the current version of the kernel? - do I need to I load a disk controller for them? (if so, where and how?) - do I have to recompile the kernel adding new drivers for these units? (hope not, but if so which ones?) Further, I cannot add a local iso image from yast as a repo. The error message is "unable to create repository from URL 'iso:/?iso=openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-x86_64.iso&url=file:///home/rleal/' Error trying to read from iso:////?iso=openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-x86_64.iso&url=file:///home/rleal/ History: - Failed to mount /home/rleal/openSUSE-10.3-GM-DVD-x86_64.iso on /var/adm/mount/AP_0x00000004d: Unable to verify that the media was mounted. Try again?" The workaround was to mount the image manually and add the repo as a local directory. Any other suggestions? Hi! I need to get my player to work either with banshee or gnomad2. I'm using openSUSE 10.3 x86 with GNOME. I have installed gnomad and connected the device but the only thing happens is banshee to show up and that's it(banshee doesn't see the player). Gnomad says it can't recognize any device connected. Hi All, Is this possible to take One-Click-Install feature to run with local mirror or local repos ? According to our internet connection in Indonesia, it would be better to us to create a local mirror for primary repository from opensuse.org and 3rd party repository like Packman and Guru.
