[opensuse] M-Audio Audiophile 2496 PCI Sound Card

Hi I wonder if any of you have experience of this card in 10.3 ? I bought one for use in my second box to play music ripped in flac and routed to my hi fi system. That it does, wonderfully. What I would also like to be able to do as well is record whatever its playing, in particular BBC radio using krecord or audacity. I can do this on my main box with an SB Audigy card, and also on the second box using the on board sound chip. But I can't find how to do it on the second box using the MAudio card. I've read lots of stuff on the Alsa site and installed various Alsa stuff but I haven't found what I want. Anybody got any clues I can follow up please ? [opensuse] How to remotely shut a windows box down from Linux

Is there any way to remotely shut a standard windows box down from a linux system? I have a few boxes i need to kick users from and shutdown (or reboot) every now and then. And its the only Windows boxes on the network. My system is a SuSE Linux, and i dont have win4lin, vmware or any other emulator running. I hope i can accomplish the task without having to install it too. any pointers/ideas. How come mc (Midnight Commander) looks messed up in runlevel 1 but is OK if you go to runlevel 3? [opensuse] Need help in upgrade to 10.2 from 10.2

I updated my newer 64bit machine, all of which have a DVD reader, and that has gone very smoothly. Today I tried to update the first of the 32bt machines, and it is a disaster. I have spend 4 hrs waiting and clicking and I am getting nowhere The machine is a server; no Gnome or KDE, with CD. Rather old (500MHz, 512Mb Pentium III). When I try to update it gets to the analysis and requires a manual intervention for some packages (including ALSA and other core stuff to me). It takes ages to check dependencies and I can resolve the things it throws up, until I get a timeout while checking dependencies. I can double the time, and double the time .... but it never resolves, and so I cannot continue with teh installation. How do I get out of this circularity? [opensuse] Suggestion for knowledge keeper?

Hello, Currently I'm using Kate to keep notes, part of log files, my thoughts, various passwords, bank account numbers, etc. Over 3 years now the file has grown so big, that I think now it's taxing system resource too much. I'm looking for a better solution. A friend of mine suggests tomboy, but I don't like it. Can someone share your suggestion any tool for this kind of purpose? [opensuse] openSuse 10.3 - Bootsplash problem

Hi, I recently installed openSuSE 10.3. But I never got the bootsplash working out of the box after the installation. I would like to find out what I can do to fix this. I do have everything installed for it, and I did the installation in the GUI installation. my dmesg.log sais Kernel command line: root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2004CS07GJ1FL903403-part5 vga=0x31b noapic resume=/dev/sda3 splash=silent 3 bootsplash: silent mode. my menu.lst for grub sais title openSUSE 10.3 - 2.6.22.9-0.4 root (hd0,1) kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.22.9-0.4-default root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-SATA_SAMSUNG_SP2004CS07GJ1FL903403-part5 vga=0x31b noapic resume=/dev/sda3 splash=silent showopts initrd /initrd-2.6.22.9-0.4-default The theme for the bootsplash is "SuSE" witch is available in the /etc/bootsplash/themes folder. Can I see if there are any errors anywhere that I can help figureing out what is wrong? I have a x64 system with a ATI Radeon 1650 SE graphic card.
