Some times ago, a friend of mine, using eudora Pro (v 3 I think) had a similar problem. When he started the mail client, a message told him that the mailbox need some fix and he agreed for the fix. Then whenever he tried to download the messages from the pop server, the process stoped and no messages were downloaded. This behavoiur being reproducible. I thought that the process stopped each time at the same mail, and I decided to use our webmail interface (using IMAP) to access the mails. Using the webmail, I was able to delete some unimportant / SPAM / weird messages. After that, we were able to download the message flawlessly using Eudora. Could you use another protocol (IMAP/POP...) or another mail client and try to delete the last incoming messages (or the suspicious one) ? It involved modifying settings to incorporate an iso font. Jim Cunning suggested it. Thanx, Jim, but no cigar! OTOH, the suggestion from Matthias was inadvertantly implemented here in KMail. All the stuff I could access in Eudora, I d/l'd here, without any d/l problem, and I guess whatever the weirdness was, KMail didn't care. That cleared out the d/l queue. Eudora seems to work, now, but I'll know better in a few days. (I wish I knew of a Eudora list I could post the info to!) Thanx, Matthias. __________________________________________________

kinternet network usage monitoring

Hi, Have recently upgraded from dialup to capped ADSL and would therefore like to keep note of the MB's I download on a daily basis. I ask as when I have looked at the kinternet log after a dialup session, the time spent and MB's sent and recd was avvailable for me to monitor. When I checked the kinternet log via 'View log' on KDE when I had ADSL the log display was empty? Is it possible to get kinternet on SuSE 9.2 to provide this information, if not via KDE then by using the cli? -- ======================================================================== Currently using SuSE 9.2 Professional with KDE and Mozilla 1.7.2 Linux user # 229959 at http://counter.li.org ========================================================================

how to use ghostscript-omni?

Hello. My printer is Epson LQ-300. Being unfamiliar with a lot of western people, this printer is one of the very widely used dot-matrix printer in China. This device is supported by Linux with omni driver, in ghostscript-omni package (which I installed). The problem is now I cannot find this printer appear in printer list (gnome-control-center -> add printer -> choose Epson -> no "LQ 300" in the list). Actually, none of the printers supported by ghostscript-omni is in the list. So, where should I check? What can I do to install this printer? There are too few documents about omni driver on the Internet, besides I didn't find anyone with same experience. FYI: LQ 300 printer in omni database is in my local file: /usr/share/ghostscript/Omni/Epson LQ-300.xml P.S. I tried both LQ-24 (ghostscript) driver (being a general driver) and LQ-570+ (ghostscript) driver (being a driver with closest model number). Both driver print incorrectly.

IRQ problems?

SUSE 10.1 doesn't see my internal modem (best data ISA, hardware based controller) and when I try to configure my sounds cards ( cs4236B and cs4610/11 accelerator) and error occurs with a message indicating it could be due to a IRQ error. How does one even begin to address possible IRQ problems/conflicts ?? Mike

[opensuse] paint program

I'm always surprised to see how it can be difficult to do simple tasks in Linux :-( I had to draw a rectangle (simple black frame) on a photo. This is done on the other system by any paint program, beginning with the default one. on my 10.1 openSUSE I couldn't find any such program. tuxpaint, the only paint program available from yast search, did not even open the image. Openoffice draw did the job, but I had to edit the defaults (default rectangle is filled with blue) and export the draw, losing 2/3 of the size on the way I'm pretty sure GIMP can do this, but I didn't succeed doing so, apart a awfull hand made line Why is there no such programm in openSUSE? VT510 terminal not working

Hallo, i want to run a vt510 terminal at a sl-10.0 computer. I connected it with a serial port (cable and port are working, i used them for a modem before), and edited the /etc/inittab adding the following line: S1:12345:respawn:/sbin/agetty -L 9600 ttyS1 vt510 i tried all 4 ttySx i have, and also tried "vt100" as terminal with emulation on the vt510. I don't even get a login on the terminal. configuration of the terminal: word size: 8 bits parity: none stop bits: 1bit transmit & receive speed: 9600 baud transmit & receive flow control: XON/XOFF can anybody help me with the setup? thanks Paul

problems with YaST module bootloader - GRUB

Hallo, manual editing of /boot/grub/menu.lst in the YaST bootloader (version 2.12.33) module causes some problems: adding following lines to the top - serial --unit=1 --speed=9600 terminal --timeout=8 serial console - hitting OK, YaST creates a completly new configuration file with following content: # Modified by YaST2.
