[SLE] lppasswd policy

Hi guys, For the first time in a while, I've needed to use the cups web interface, and when setting the password I'm told my password isn't long/difficult enough. What governs the password difficulty for lppasswd? It's not the same as the usual user password, because I'm trying to set it the same as my root password and it's not accepting it. theluggage:~ # lppasswd root Enter password: Enter password again: lppasswd: Sorry, password rejected. Your password must be at least 6 characters long, cannot contain your username, and must contain at least one letter and number. [SLE] commercial presentation of next SUSE Linux distribution

As you may know, we have little influence about the presentation of the commercial SUSE Linux. I speak about the "boxed" set, not the Novell supported professional ones. But, who knows, may be it could be usefull to express our feeling here. The actual boxed set of the 10.1 is a pity. The disks themselves are nice looking: http://fr.opensuse.org/Téléchargement/choisir_la_bonne_version#Version_.22B… this is good. But they are just fitted in a small paper cover. The box itself is cheap, very far from the usual SUSE standard (I remember of 9.0 munificent box). There are only the starting manual printed. Visibly all have been done to get a cheap product and the street price follows this. However usual deal channels don't allow really for cheap prices. This seems to me ridiculous when the download of nearly the same product is free. I wouls like to see: * A "professional" boxed set with all the disks, _two_ DVD9 and 5CD, all two manuals (1000+pages) is the local langage, and this at the price it deserve, whatever high it is. When I see the price of manuals alone on the shelves, (much) more than $100 should not be a real problem. SUSE standards again. Much less expensive than Novell servers products (with they 5+ years support), but worth 2 years support. * A minimal cd/dvd set. 5CD, 1DVD9, all of them in an A4 hard paper enveloppe (nearly no manual) - sold through e-bay and mass dealers (Amazon?), with _NO_ Novell support, for the printing cost. This should be less than $15+shipment. [SLE] Cannot do graphical install

I can't do any graphical install either 10.0 or 10.1. I have have tried LG L1952 and Samsung 710n, both report an invalid frequency 43 by 46hz. [SLE] Memory vs. Swap?

Hey there guys -- I'm running into an issue on our cluster here where SuSE is using about 40% of the free memory and then switches into swap space -- which is slowing down our cluster significantly. What am I looking at here? Is it a memory usage option in the kernel? Maybe I'm just not understanding the processes at work here :) Anyone that could help out, I'd appreciate it :). Thanks! [SLE] nvidia driver problems

Dear List, Just a quick heads-up on the new nvidia driver, x86_64-1.0-8762. I just recently installed 10.1 on my home box, AMD x86_64, GeForce FX5700 ULtra, with a Nokia 445Xi+ monitor. To my surprise the latest nvidia driver did not perform. I was unable to get 1600x1200 resolution at 16.7 mio. colors and 3D acceleration to work. Only going back to the previous nvidia driver, x86_64-1.0-8756, got my system back in the shape it used to be for the past several years. [SLE] Suse 10.0 and Screen Saver

Hi! I am having a minor problem with the kde screen saver. After about 7 minutes the monitor will blank out even though I have the monitor power control turned off (contorl center --> peripherals ---> Display.....). I noticed that with this turned off, the kpowersave program is still running. I have tried turning power control on and setting to an hour or so before allowing it to blank the monitor off, but it still does it in about 7 minutes. This is a home system using an ABIT KT7A-RAID mother board with an ATI 9200 SE vidio card, and an A70F ViewSonic monitor (analog only). I have played with some of the bois settings, but it does not seem to make andy difference. The manual says that ACPI is always available on this mother board. How do I get the power control to either be turned off completely on the honor the settings (1hour lets say) that I set up in it?

[SLE] SuSE 10.1 and CUPS

Folks, I have an HP jetdirect j3265a print server with 3 ports. I have two printers connected (9100 and 9200). This used to work with SuSE 10.0 and still works with windoze. After the switch to 10.1 I can only get the first port (9100) to work. I cannot use my second printer. Has anyone experienced similar problems with 10.1?
