backup operation: back up the files belong to www-run

Hello. I am making up regular backup procedure of a web server (sitting in the datacenter). There are a lot of files created by www-run (uploaded by users) needs to be backed up from my office. These file permission is 600. The backup script run in my office desktop, use ssh to fetch updated files and create backup in my office. ideas: 1. I can adjust umask so that the files created by apache has some user permission like 644 so that the back up script can use ssh to connect to the server as any user and being able to read these files; 2. I can adjust sshd permission to allow root remotely login to ssh (previous setting by our administrator is: root is not allowed for sshd, you must first login as a normal user and 'su', this is said to be more secure), and the backup script should run as 'root' on the web server, thus it can read these files belonging to www-run without necessarily have permission to do so; 3. tweak idea (2) a little bit, use 'sudo' rather then login as root to the web server. 4. I can adjust /etc/passwd to make the login shell of www-run to be /bin/bash (was: /bin/false) so that the backup script can ssh to the web server as www-run, this it can read any file apache server can read; Which method is more secure? How do you suggest me to do?

As I was listening to some tunes with Amarok, all of a sudden, the sound just stops working. I have tried running alsaconf as I did in the beginning to get the sound card working, but no help. Can someone give me some pointers on how to troubleshoot this dilemma? Perhaps a good doc? Thanks in advance! -- Robert

Hello, Thanks a lot for your help,rather working on any Wikis or translations , i would like to work on development ,like feature development or developing Apps from the scratch,,but in the How_to_participate page on Opensuse not much is given now.so my query is where do i look? And one more thing that i found quite interesting to discuss was that a Ubuntu Wiki has a facility called video tutorials for ubuntu . Have a look at http://www.ubuntuvideo.com it consist of all video tutorials aggregated from the net(google videos,youtube,etc..) now if we can have such project on opensuse .I believe it would be of great help for amateurs and non-techies. Can we have such facility?? And one more thing i felt was lacking on Opensuse was Marketing stuff ,now few days back i gave a seminar in my college on suse Linux i used my own slides for that ,But what if some marketing stuff (slides,stickers,cd artwork,flyer) is available apart from only artwork which is vailable right now on Opensuse. New Firefox rpm fails

I got this from the opensuse repository. Is this happening to others? Did I grab the wrong rpm for 10.0? SPAM: New problem

There may have been something on the list in the past and I didn't see it. If so, sorry for that. My taskbar simply vanished......with no warning, no setting changes, etc......just gone. Is there a way to get it back in 10.1 without it taking "an act of Congress?" Thanks in advance!! Fred -- MickySoft, the ultimate corporate parasite.

I've noticed that the 64 bit version of OpenOffice 2.04 is available at http://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/projects. Is this package suitable for use? How does it compare with the 32 bit version WRT completeness, stability etc.
