Hi Was wondering if someone on the list would have an copy of suse linux version 7.1 that would be willing to part with it or if anyone know where i can get an iso of at least cd 1 it has to be the personal editon thanks for any help and info Bob

Bug? YaST partitioning

hi, i've yesterday installed my openSUSE as Druid said (first minimal-installation from cd1 and then add the loop-back-mounted isos as YaST-Source. [it needed the packages "syslinux", which i aborted, because it's on CD2, and i hadn't burned CD2... maybe it would be better if all the packages needed for minimal installation are located on CD1] But it worked and i've installed it. Now to the error, i got while partitoning: The suggestion from YaST was to format hda1, on which my SuSE 9.3 system is. I tried to change that: Installations-Settings -> change -> custom -> [i had to choose the HD] -> i could choose the Partiton, on which i want openSUSE to install, 1 - /dev/hda1 2 ... ... I've ticked the box at hda8, but i got an error-Message "die aktuelle Auswahl ist ungültig, start your selection with the highest numbered list entry". In english that would mean: "the actual selection is inoperative, start ..." Is that a bug, or only a handling error? I didn't find it in the bugzilla... Later i've tried to do the partitioning "by hand", so i said, where the / should be mountet (the YaST - Partitioning tool, i know from running systems...). Hope, that's understandable through my bad english... greets Soeren

ZENworks repositories

Hi. I have ZENworks installed here On my SuSE 9.3. I use the https://update.novell.com/data For updates, but the only repositories there is suse93. Where are there other repositories for 9.3 ? Erik Jakobsen.

Understanding devices - Please help

Hello SuSE people. This is long and complicated and I really would like to know the why and how of devices. Please be patient and explain how it works to me. This post was prompted because I recently upgraded to KDE 3.4.2 (SuSE 9.2) and my cdrecorder suddenly stopped working. Wouldn't mount data disks nor see audio disks. (no media found)(Even as root) Still not solved but that is not the point of this post. (for now, anyway) I can hopefully fight that out myself if I have the understanding about these devices Following is info from looking in my /dev directory. /dev/hdc is the dvdrecorder & /dev/hdd is the cdrecorder /dev/cdrom is link to hdc - owner=bob,group=disk (Wrong?? points to the dvd player) /dev/cdrecorder is link to hdd - owner=bob,group=disk (correct ?) /dev/dvd is link to hdc - owner=bob, group=disk (correct ?) /dev/dvdrecorder is link to hdc -owner =bob, group=disk (correct ?) Now looking at hdc & hdd: /dev/hdc - owner=bob(read&write) group=disk(forbidden) others(forbidden) /dev/hdd - (same as hdc above) All the rest of the hdc's & hdd's (1 through 50+) all show owner as root with read&write for owner and the group. Why are they different from the rest & why? Following is an excerpt from my /etc/resmgr.conf # CD-ROMs - giving permission to open the corresponding SCSI # device is highly useful for CD writers such as cdrecord. add /dev/cdrom desktop paride add /dev/cdrom1 desktop paride add /dev/cdrecorder desktop add /dev/dvd desktop paride add /dev/dvd1 desktop paride add /dev/sr0 desktop add /dev/sr1 desktop add /dev/sr2 desktop add /dev/sr3 desktop I don't have a /dev/cdrom1, dev/dvd1, in the /dev directory. (should I remove them? (and why isn't /dev/dvdrecorder in there? (should I put it in?) and why are some paride and others not? (should that be edited?) (If I could rememer what paride means) And isn't /dev/sr0 somehow actually /dev/dvdrecorder? (Although I can't see how - no links or anything,but I remember coming across it somewhere a long time ago. (sr0 through 3 are root,disk with read &write for root/owner and read for group/disk. Is /dev/cdrom used solely for accessing audio cd's? Is that why it is created? And because it actually points to the dvdrecorder, is that why the audio cds are recognized and played on that device? Following is my fstab file. Sorry about line carryover but I put spaces between each entry to make it a little clearer. Hi everyone: Some good news - I've been able to recover working files from my old /mike directory. Seems I forgot to creat a 'mount' point for the HD. I deserve one wack with a wet noodle. Mea Culpa. Cheers, Mike

can't get Audacity to run -- missing an rpm that I can't seem to locate

Hi, everyone. I had Audacity running on my pooter under SuSE 9.2, but I am unable to get it running now that I've upgraded to 9.3. I have the Audacity rpm. I tried to install it using Yast and got a dependency message -- that I need libwx_gtk2-2.4.so.0 I did a search on the 9.3 DVD but it did not find the rpm on the DVD. I then did a Google search for it and found lots of indications that other folks have had the same problem locating this rpm. I tried to install Audacity by ignoring the dependency message and, of course, Audacity won't run. When I try to run it from a shell I get the following message: gil@phred:~> audacity audacity: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2-2.4.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory gil@phred:~> audacity OK, so I need the rpm. Can anyone point me an URL where I can get libwx_gtk2-2.4.so.0 Many thanks! :o) Gil

Hey Group; I have been playing around with the GTK files. As usual one program ask for another and it is not there. So, I head to the WEB to find it . Normally the new file comes with the required headers. However, "xcb" seems to be missing xcb.h. It seems that xcb-2.3 has cb.h but no xcb.h. Please if this is a small file (it should be) either send a copy directly or post it if available.
