Nvidia splash screen?

Hi, Quick question: with the latest nvidia driver and SuSE 9.3 Pro, should I see the normal nvidia splash screen when X starts up/resets? SUSE 9.3 Samba and Firewall issue

Hi folks, I think this is very well known issue. But still could not find a right solution for this till Now. (It's there in 9.2, 9.3 and even Fedora 3 and 4 for that matter) Here's the problem: I have SUSE 9.3 installation with samba configured. I have firewall running with ports 137,138 UDP and 139 TCP opened. All windows machines (2K and XP) in my home network are able to access shares and printer on my SUSE box. They can ping the box or browse the shares using DNS name ("Linux" in this case) But SUSE linux box cannot access any of these machines by their DNS names. Its not possible to browse and find computers from konqueror using smb:/ However I can access the windows boxes using their IP without any problems. If I turn off the firewall on Linux Box I can also access the windows boxes by their DNS names. I am not able to figure out which firewall rule is blocking nmb daemon's capability to browse the network. I am using YaST to configure the firewall. (Not familiar with backend - iptables) Can anybody tell me (or point me to) the solution for this problem. I am sure its just a matter of setting/modifying a rule in firewall. but not aware of what it is. Please note there is no firewall on any of the windows boxes. Thanks for help -Kshitij

sax2 -p detects on my laptop: CHip: 0 is -> Intel 855 GM 00:02:0 0x8086 0x3582 PCI i810 This is a dual head machine though. How do I tell that to sax2? Also, the latest intel driver is i915. Spellcheck dictionaries

Last year, when I was using Evo 1.4.6 with SuSE Pro 9.0 and Ximian XD2, I asked for and received help in adding French and Portuguese spellchecking. I used Ximian Red Carpet to to install aspell-fr and aspell-pt and they appeared immediately in the Spellchecker Languages window. I just installed (clean) SuSE 9.2 with Evo 2.0.1. I used YaST to install the aspell-fr and aspell-pt files. However, this did not add French and Portuguese to my choices under Settings> Composer Preferences> Spellchecking. Would someone please tell me what to do to add French and Portuguese spellchecking? TIA Kelly -- Kelly J. Morris <kjmlists(a)comcast.net>

Can anyone make sg_start work under 9.3?

I have 2 9.3 systems and I can not get sg_start to work. # sg-start 1 /dev/sdb bash: sg-start: command not found hrnowl:/home/pelliott # sg_start 1 /dev/sdb /bin/sg_start: line 87: cd: /usr/src/packages/BUILD/sg3_utils-1.12: No such file or directory gcc: sg_start.o: No such file or directory gcc: ./.libs/libsgutils.so: No such file or directory # It worked fine under 9.2. How can I write ISO file to a CD with suse 9.2? I tried the command bellow and got an error. This worked under 9.0. "cdrecord -v -dao -speed=4 dev=0,0 KNOPPIX_V3.9-2005-05-27-EN.iso" I also ran "cdrecord --scanbus" Cdrecord-Clone 2.01 (i686-suse-linux) Copyright (C) 1995-2004 Jörg Schilling Note: This version is an unofficial (modified) version Note: and therefore may have bugs that are not present in the original. Removing Windows partition and using it for /usr

Is there anyway that I can delete my windows partition as I have not booted into it for a long time and use it for /usr as it is 17gb in size or would I be better to use it for /home Sean -- I wish I was on a Cincinnati street corner holding a clean dog!

linux firewall or SUSE

My son is having problems with his ( XP ) PC. He seems to be getting smurf attacks, or something like that. I'm not sure I can sway him to run SUSE ( or any Linux distro), but I may be able to get him to run a Linux firewall on another, older, spare PC.
