I have a new email server and a different network adapter card in the machine. What files do I have to modify to be able to again use K-Mail from Linux? I am running SuSE 8.0 Pro and KDE--not interested in Gnome, thank you. Thanx--doug

How do I add an item to the Suse Work menu?

how to use wine

Hi, I was trying to use wine but I encountered some problems. I was trying to run the Macromedia products, the only products that make me use Windows. I run winesetup and I just clicked next on everything. Then I tried to use macromedia Flash and worked fine, no problem at all, however when I tried to open Macromedia Freehand 10 it didn't run and I got the following log: Wine already configured, run 'winesetup' to reconfigure. err:module:PE_fixup_imports Module (file) MSVCRT40.dll (which is needed by Z:\windows\E\Program Files\Macromedia\FreeHand 10\kpsys32.dll) not found err:win32:PE_LoadLibraryExA can't load Z:\windows\E\Program Files\Macromedia\FreeHand 10\kpsys32.dll err:module:PE_fixup_imports Loading module (file) KPSYS32.dll (which is needed by Z:\windows\E\Program Files\Macromedia\FreeHand 10\sprof32.dll) failed (error 14). How could I get this program to run. I also tried Macromedia Fireworks. I began to initialize and then stopped with and error that said error initializing and that was all, I didn't have log files, etc. What could I do. Thanks Jose

So, the small fortune I spent for last-minute airfare is simply adding to my nervousness about the race. Oh well, I guess I can't back down now. Now That's the Ticket Speaking of expensive tickets, one of my moles reported that Team Redmond might be looking to buy Accenture, the $11 billion consulting company. Apparently, Microsoft and Accenture have been engaged in some intense talks, with folks frequently flying back and forth between Redmond and New York, particularly during March and April. Even big bad Ballmer was spotted walking through Accenture headquarters recently in The Big Apple. These companies would make good bedfellows - what with Accenture building and selling .Net tools and all. A deal like this would certainly boost Microsoft's quietly growing services unit. But given the software giant's vows not to compete with its army of partners in the services realm, such a deal is bound to create turmoil. Hmm. Even with my financial straits, I don't think I'd apply to Accenture for employment as a consultant anytime soon. AT&T Eyeing SCO Without even knowing it, SCO may have started a war of attrition with much larger enemies that have deeper pockets. Within the halls at AT&T, folks were chattering just last week that AT&T still has reserved rights on Unix. Naturally, the company is paying close attention to the various legal claims that SCO is making and may join the battle soon. My spy said the word around AT&T is that this will all be resolved shortly. But one has to wonder how long SCO could survive if it had opponents in multiple courtrooms - those being, of course, IBM and AT&T. My friend Reilly commented the other day that I appear to be getting my mojo back. I hope he's right, because I am going to need it for this race. I just wish Apache could run with me. SuSE and grub

Hey Group; I have heard that grub will boot from drives other than hda. To that I have a bootable version of knoppix on hdb in partition #1 that I would like to boot. I would like to get grub to do just that. I have edited /boot/grub/menu.lst and so far no luck. man grub is of no help. info grub is a copy of man grub - so no help also. kmail is not sending my messages...

I'm trying to send messages via kmail(1.5.2) in my SuSE 8.2 distribution, it seeems everything works fine when I send a message, but the receiver is not getting anything. The intanet administrator told me that my messages are returning, but the kmail does not notify anything!!! There is a bug or am I forgeting some configuration parameter? (Before I was using the 1.4.3 vesion and I dd not ae this problem? Thanks in advance, Gustavo Adolfo

The funny part is what happens when Microsoft tries to do stuff like this. Slashdot seems to turn a blind eye when Red Hat does it. As for YaST2, *all* of the source is available for your perusal, and the "server" is nothing more than a bunch of files on a bunch of ftp servers, many of them outside of SuSE's control. YaST2 does not send such information to SuSE. Cygwin Xwin blocked by Firewall

Hi I wonder if anyone can help, I have set up IP Masquerading and every time I startup the firewall on the SuSE server I can run Xwin sessions on the PC's. When I turn off the firewall the Xwin Sessions (via cygwin) work ok. I have even tried in the expert option of the firewall wizard allowing ports 21 through to 10000 thinking it might be blocking port 6000. Symlinks and autofs

Hi All, I've just got to grips with autofs, and overall it seems fine. Is it my imagination or do nfs mounts run a bit faster when automounted? Now, in order to make access to the automounted fs's easier (not having to distribute lists of pathnames to users, etc) I made a directory in each home directory containing links to each automount. Therein lies my gripe: when that directory is entered (actually, even if it's just selected) each link target is mounted (or in the case of a CD, waits for a timeout.) Printing to a novell print queue from my linux machine?

Hi, I have set my PC up with suse 8.0, and can see the novell network no problem. I also have the novel client program which successfully allows me to log in and mount my home section.... Only problem is when I try and set the printer side of this up... How do I do this? How do I set my printers up on my linux machine so they will print through the print queue's set up on the novell server? This is the only item which is holding me abck from scrapping windows altogether and going for an all-out linux install.... yippee - I can't wait! Hope someone can help me with this! Running ASP over apache

Hi, I need to be able to open ASP pages inc. templates, css's etc etc under my apache install. I have mod_perl installed and the apache_ASP module from the install/uninstall YAST2 section. Only trouble is that when I open the asp documents off the server, they are still only treated as plain html, with the template info, css's not opening up properly. Can anybody please help me on this - perhaps some notes on setting this up? Regards Damian Buckley

Autostart vcnserver with support for kdm login screen

Hi, I am pretty new to both linux and Suse, so please apologize my incorrect usage of terms :-) I have a Suse 8.1 server behind a firewall and I want to access it graphically from WinX dekstops I started up with enabling xdmcp and kdm, I could log on thesever using exceed withou problems as long as I was sitting on the same network behind the firewall. But as soon as I moved outside the firewall I could not start a Query session from Exceed and connect to my linux box (I of course opened all the ports 6000-3 177 tcp/udp, that are used by xdmcp) Exceed simply could not connect (please note that in my test, my windows desktop was also behind a firewall... something like this Exceed->Windows -> Nat Router -> Internet -> Nat Router -> Linux -> XDMCP) I dropped that and started to think of vnc... I succeded logging to my server using SSH and starting vncserver manually. I succeded loging on the vncserver from my windows desktop using vncviewer, but I only get a blank X window desktop. Can anybody give me some info about how to 1) Start vncserver automatically (configure it as other services and be able to control it with YaST runlevel editor) 2) Be able to log on vncserver and get the kdm (or gdm or...) login window, eventually sharing the same screen as the one running on the box itself Thank you for you patience and for any help Andreas

KDE Lan browsing problem

Hey, Sorry if this has already been discussed but the archive isn't exactly easily searchable. Anyway, I'm having problems with Lan browsing in KDE (SuSE 8.2). When I click on Lan in the Services tab of Konqueror I get an error message that just says "Protocol not supported lan". I've checked to make sure any appropriate packages are installed (at least any I thought were needed) but that didn't seem to help. I also added Lisa to start at boot but that didn't seem to do it either. The Lisa configuration tabs don't even appear in the Control Center, all I see is the Windows Shares tab. Just wondering if anyone else has had this problem and what I might do to correct it. Thanks, Vince
