Moving cursor.

Hi. I run SuSE 8.2. Once I had it such that if for instance I had 2 windows opened, and moved the cursor from the one to the other, the cursor was fixed to the one I moved it to, and vice versa. Cannot remember if the name was moving cursor. what is gdm/xdm/smbfs and dvd's?

Hi everyone, I'm trying to set up my system and as I'm new to this some things are still a mystery... During boot I get messages that gdm and xdm failed while smbfs was skipper. What are they and does it matter? Secondly - could it be connected to the fact that i don't seem to be able to mount dvd's in suse - either kde or ximian (which I prefer). USB memory card

Hello. I'm a hopeless newbie. I have SuSE 8.2 Personal. The system was updated less than 24 hours ago. My floortop has two USB orifices in its front. I've just stuck a cheapo "V-TEC V-Drive USB Flash Drive" http://www.v-tec.com.tw/ memory card into one of them. I heard a jolly beeping sound. Er, now what? YaSTCC's "hardware" tab has nothing about "USB", "removable media", "other memory devices", etc. etc. YaST2's "Hardware Information" probe reaches "14%" and "USB" and thereupon either hangs or stops to think for an extraordinarily long time. Hitting "Abort" does nothing, so I hit Crtl-Alt-Esc (I'm making a lot of use of this key combination these days). http://sdb.suse.de/en/sdb/html/usb_devices.html "Setting Up USB Support and USB Devices" is only about older versions of SuSE. The maker of the memory card says it's Linux compatible (whatever that means, if anything) and offers a PDF of instructions that don't mention Linux. I thought I could at least play a CD on this machine. But now, although I'm not aware of having made any changes to the system, KsCD refuses to load and I can't even play CDs while I enjoy spending thirty minutes attempting to do things that took mere seconds in MS-DOS. Ah well. . . . Oh, hello, hitting Ctrl-Alt-Esc after a second abortive attempt at a hardware probe brings up ProcessTable -- sometimes it does this, usually it doesn't; I've no idea why it works differently at different times -- which tells me that seven processes of KsCD are running. I kill the lot. (But afterwards, KsCD still won't load.)

Java won't work in Mozilla 1.3.1

OK, after much turmoil I have finally gotten Evolution 1.4 to work and as a side benefit, the Ximian "Mozilla" (needed in order to get Evolution to work) is a vast improvement font-wise. However, I can no longer get Java or Flash to work even though the plugins are present. I've tried to manually set them up ("application/x-java-vm" and "application/x-shockwave-flash") but I don't know what the respective extensions are (i.e. .exe, .jre, etc.). Any help would be appreciated. Zach

SuSEFirewall Port Help

Having trouble opening up a single port from the internet. Can somone please advise me on how to fix this. cvs script?

Hello guys I have installed a cvs and Samba on a system running SuSE 8.0. Under my CVS path i have a module name which i want to tranfer (for backup reasons) every day on a different PC. The problem is that the files on the cvs are like filename.php.v and this is a problem because i want to transfer all of them on the 2nd pc in a specific location (on the apache root folder) where apache is running and ofcourse it can recognize .php.v extensions. Any suggestions on how i can rename on the fly all this files before copying all this to the 2nd PC ? Thanks

KOffice Shell App (WhereIsIt?)

Having installed KDE for SuSE 8.2 and updated it with the most current files for KDE from SuSE's ftp site, I find I cannot find the Koffice shell program. Please tell me where it is hiding, so I may call it up and use Koffice. Thanks -- Dennis Tuchler <dtuchler(a)earthlink.net>
