The code above is actually taken from phpMyAdmin and so may be covered by the GPL (if a fragment this size can be copyrighted). I put this in a couple of PHP pages I wrote about three years ago: before I did this the web forms weren't passing variables when I installed 8.2. Running a webserver from a home machine...how?

OK, I'm thinking it might be kind of cool (or keen to you EU folks) to run my own website from home. I don't know what I would do with it yet, but not the typical "here's my kids, here's my dog, here's our family reunion in Death Valley, blah...blah...blah". I might start up a local Land Rover club in my area and might choose to host it. So, with that being said: 1) How should I do this? 2) What server app should I use? 3) What is the downside to doing this? (I don't think I'll get 500 hits a day). 4) Will this have any effect on my system on a day to day basis? 5) I'm running a static, private IP on my machine from behind a firewall. Problem? Basically, I have a SMC cable router/firewall that I know how to setup. I have a static IP from my cable company. I have a pretty good system (processor, motherboard, memory, etc...). Feel free to start throwing out ideas. Also, is there a really simple way for me to do this right away? Like toss up something and see if someone can see it? Thanks! Lost process solved after install SuSE 8.2

Hi, Some days ago, I report about a problem where kde do not free rightly the kio_xxx process, because this after some time the performance of the system was slow down, but it is restored if I kill the "losted" process (more or less one hundred per hour in use). My SuSe was 8.1 with all updates and KDE 3.1.2. Yesterday I install the new SuSE 8.2 and until now no more problems. Jose Thadeu Cavalcante

Thanks Richard, I will have a look at it. I would still like however to be able to get YaST functioning as described by others. I am sure I've overlooked something but the question is what... Is this "instsrc" a file that I should be able to see residing in the requested (yast-source) directory? I'm not seeing it looking at several ftp mirrors. wierd problem with Yast Online Update (SuSE Pro 8.2)

Saw this posted at alt.os.linux.suse, but the thread died there, with no solution. I have the same exact problem. Basically: 1) An error occurs when downloading patch info (goes up to either 11% or 17% complete and throws a fit): Error Signature check for patch info files failed. Cannot load patch information. Patch: [either capisuite or sendmail, it varies] 2) An error occurs when starting to download patch info: Error Initialization failed. Try again. If failure continues, choose another SuSE FTP/HTTP server. This is not the "after a crash" or the "behind a firewall" links in the support database, I've gone through that and it didn't help. I'm behind a firewall and a proxy, but can connect well in all other cases. Besides, YOU starts downloading stuff and stops half-way; if the firewall/proxy were the problem, no download would occur at all, right? And the worst part: sometimes the update goes through (every 10th or 20th attempt, I'd say). I may be seeing things, but it seems that its going well when the download is really slow (the progress bar drags for minutes). This is in SuSE pro 8.2. Please help! Adalberto

Networking printers with Samba

I know you can share a printer attached to a Linux box with Windows machines on the same network by using Samba. But can a Linux box access a printer attached to a Windows machine? If so, can anyone give me some general guidelines as to how to go about it? I'm using SuSE 8.1 Thanks - Ken
