I upgraded with the RPM from the updates section of the SuSE site. I was going to compile last night to see if it made any difference, but I can't find the sources for the pcmcia module that SuSE put up on the site for the 2.4.16 kernel. I also have source code from the manufacturer of my wireless card that I tried to compile against an earlier version of the pcmcia source that originally came with the distro (7.1) but it won't compile; I think that the PCMCIA version may be a couple of minor revs too early. -ronc On Saturday 09 February 2002 04:25 am, you wrote: > Did you ever figure out what happened to your orinoco_cs driver? Half duplex

I have a rtl 8139 network card. How do I configure it to use half duplex mode under SuSE? I've tried to add "options rtl8139 duplex=half" to /etc/modules.conf but without success. Any clues?

antialiasing / freetype2

Hi, I've found this interesting article on LinuxPlanet: http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/tips/3878/3/ It says, in short, that antialiasing is compromised in SuSE 7.3 and can be much improved by turning the 'byte code interpreter' in freetype2 back on. Now I'm wondering: Antialiasing seems to work pretty well on my system (Dell Inspiron 7500 with ATI Rage Mobility, SuSE 7.3 out-of-the-box install), fonts looking nice, although not quite as nice as in Windows, for example, although I have MS fonts installed. Can I improve font quality by following the steps in the article? If yes, where can I get the freetype2-2.0.4-23.src.rpm, I couldn't find it in my Personal distro, or on the SuSE ftp site. Ximian, another time... help please

Hi! When I try to install Ximian desktop from the website, I follow the procedure and I have a problem that I don't know what to do. I got this message and I can't install Ximian. What I must do Dependency Failure Package dependencies could not be completely resolved and Ximian GNOME cannot be installed on your system. Hi all, (especially those in Germany), I am travelling to Cebit Hanover on March 15th to 17th. Myself and 2 colleagues are flying in to Dusseldorf early and I have been trying unsuccessfully to find reasonably priced Hotel or B & B accomodation in and around the Bielefeld - Gutersloh - Paderborn area. Can anyone recommend a place anywhere within a 60 - 90 minute drive to Hanover (Between Dusseldorf and Hanover). Thanks in advance.... Please reply off list so as not to create too much traffic. hangup with KDE 2.2.1

I am shutting down my Suse 7.3 regularly because I run also Drdos programs. At booting Suse I like to get in the console. When I want to start KDE I have sometimes problems with the KDE desktop. After the KDE little screen shows up, the several parts start in good order until close before the music should start. At that point I get my screen background but no menu's at all. If I kill the little screen I have an empty desktop. Nothing will go. I can go to an alternative (Alt F2) screen and log there in as root or any user. I expected that that would give me the possibility to shutdown Suse but ctrl alt del and shutdown -r now will only show the message that the system will close down and there it remains. What could be the cause of this? In some cases I can restart Suse and have my KDE without problems, sometimes it takes two or three restarts. I found a lot of temporary files in the tmp directory with the following content: remove protoname=ICE protodata="" netid=local/big_one:/tmp/.ICE-unix/907 authname=MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 remove protoname=DCOP protodata="" netid=local/big_one:/tmp/.ICE-unix/907 authname=MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 Has this something to do with my problem and if so, what action do I take? It sounds outlandish to me ;-(

PCMCIA module loading

Hi all, I am trying to find where the path to PCMCIA modules is specified so that when a card is detected in a PCMCIA slot, the driver module is loaded. Currently, when I plug in my wireless card, the module is trying to load from /lib/modules/2.4.16-4GB/pcmcia-external, but the module is really in /lib/modules/2.4.16-4GB/pcmcia. If I can find where this path is specified, then I can change it more cleanly. -ronc

Remove and Reinstall KDE 2.2

Hi Lists, I have a situation where I somehow have both KDE 2.2.1 and KDE 2.2.2 run ning on my box. I am using SuSE 7.3 Pro and have updated KDE only using SuSE's rpms. I am having trouble with Kapital installing due apparently to being confused about the two KDE's. What is the safest way, without reinstalling SuSE, to remove and reinstall KDE and bring it back to 2.2.2, without losing all of my links to apps and ending up with a hosed box? I am willing to just back up everything and reinstall if that is necessary. I need to clean up this as it is my production box. I think my troubles started when KDE hung and locked up whiledoing a clean install of SuSE 7.3 Pro. If there is a 7.4 soon, maybe I'll just wait. Any help appreciated. The box is very usable for everything except Kapital. TIA, Keith B.
