Hi, I had very similar problem, it is somehow related to AGP code and/or 3D handling in kernel nvidia driver and/or 3D libraries for XFree. Here how I have solved this: 1) Install XFree 4.1, XFree GLX, SuSE Nvidia GLX, SGI glu library (everything from from SuSE CD). 2) Download and install SuSE 2.4.16 kernel (with 2.4.10 Xfree have not been able to quit without hang up). 3) Compile and install nvidia kernel module. 4) Compile and install (with make install) Nvidia GLX module from nVidia web site. 5) Run Sax2 and enjoy. ******************************************************** * Best Regards --- Andrei Verovski * * * * Home Page * * http://homepage.mac.com/MacGuruHQ/ * * Mac, Linux, DTP, Development, IT WEB Site * ********************************************************

Hi All, Unless I was out and missed it, we don't seem to have said much here on this story: http://www.sun.com/2002-0206/linux/ 'Sun broadens support for Linux: aggressive new program expands the role of Linux on entry-level servers' Apart from our natural distaste at the deployment of the word 'aggressive' where 'vigorous' or 'active' was meant, are we quiet because no-one knows, or because no-one thinks it will make much difference? Sun don't say anything too much about what Linux they mean, and there's a strong emphasis on developing the Cobalt 'appliance' type machine, but they also promise: 'Sun will ship for the first time a full implementation of Linux on a new line of general-purpose servers aimed at providing "edge" services to environments such as workgroups and remote offices. New single- and multiprocessor systems, to be announced mid-year, will use the x86 architecture and be capable of running thousands of Linux applications natively.' I assume SuSE is not directly involved? Certainly KDE fans won't be specially pleased to find that: 'GNOME, the most advanced Linux user environment, will become the preferred desktop for Solaris when GNOME 2.0 begins shipping later this year.' though SuSE's SPARC port is mentioned. Lineo (who they?) are afforded a signficant role. This strategic turn presumably goes with the (quiet if not positively furtive) dropping of the Solaris x86 OS for i386 architecture, a product that certainly had its uses, if only for those wanting to play on a 'junior version' of Solaris as practice for big Sun machines. Much is made of Sun's renewed commitment to the 'open source community', which can't be all bad. My apologies if this has all been dealt with while I was in a coma, but if that's not the case, what do people think? Hi again, #Have your tried starting sax2 from console after running # init 3 with: 'sax2 -m 0=nvidia' I tried sax2 -m 0=fbdev and 0=nv and 0=nvidia (SuSe version) and 0=nvidia (nvidia version 1541) and 0=nvidia (nvidia version 2313). Respectively 180, 330, 380, 4.800 and 4.000 fps with gears. All crash sax2 and crash when shutting down X. Even compiled a new kernel. Even compiled nvidia from tar. StarOffice & MySQL

Hi at all. My goal is insert into a StarOffice text file data from a database (such as MySQL and/or MS Access). I suppouse that's possible with ODBC but I don't know how can I do it. Any suggestion ? Anyone know where I can find manual/info about starbase? Tks in advance Paolo

It seems your card is working ok, or else your .X.err log would be full of (EE)'s. I suppose it is the interaction between KDE, XFree 4.0.3 and Nvidia drivers that is not working right. Have your tried starting sax2 from console after running init 3 with: 'sax2 -m 0=nvidia' and with the 1541 drivers installed? It is the Nvidia driver calls who issues the resolution warnings, so I guess that could be a part of messsing things up. NFS shared file vs local file - what is the difference?

Hi, I just have wasted a handful of blank CD's in an attempt to burn them. host1: Pentium IV 1GHz, SuSE V7.3, CD-ROM, 8GB Partition mounted on /data/workspace which is also shared via NFS. host2: Pentium III 100Mhz, SuSE V7.1, Yamaha 6416 CD Reader/Writer, very little free space, NFS Share host1:/data/wokspace mounted, mount version mount-2.10m, cdrecord version Cdrecord 1.8.1 Procedure followed to copy the CD: 1. on host1 Copy CD raw image with dd if=/dev/hdb of=/data/workspace/image.raw 2. on host1 Make sure all data is readable on host1 mount -o loop -t iso9660 /data/workspace/image.raw /mnt on host1 check everything is there on host1 umount /mnt 3. on host2 burn the raw image with cdrecord -v speed=6 dev=3,0 /data/workspace/image.raw 4. on host2 verify the burned CD on host2 mount /cdrom on host2 Make sure all data is there, Yes, all there on host2 eject on host2 mount /cdrom /dev/scd0: Invalid argument mount: you must specify the filesystem type I can read the burned cdrom immediately after burning it, but after an unmount/eject and mount, its not mountable anymore. Analysis shows that the burned image looks like an audio track. But thats not the whole story yet, its gets even more mysterious. After about 10 stuffed up CDs, I tried to mount the raw image on the NFS share on host2. on host2 mount -o loop /data/workspace/image.raw /mnt ioctl: LOOP_SET_FD: Invalid argument now this made me very suspicious in regard to failing to mount the burned CDs. So the next thing to do was to copy the file to the local tree. on host2: cp /data/workspace/image.raw / on host2: mount -o loop /image.raw /mnt on host2: umount /mnt So the local file is mountable via loopback, the file on the NFS share isn't. on host2 burn the raw image with cdrecord -v speed=6 dev=3,0 /image.raw on host2 mount /cdrom on host2 Make sure all data is there, Yes, all there on host2 eject on host2 mount /cdrom on host2 umount /cdrom on host2 mount /cdrom Yes, if the raw image file is local, I can burn it and actually use it! Question: What is the difference between a file being on a local partition that is mounted and the same file on a remote host that is mounted via NFS? A diff /data/workspace/image.raw and /image.raw doesn't report anything. However, for mount -o loop and for cdrecord there must be some subtle difference as my experience shows. Bad Geforce3 hardware?

Hi, Problem: The system hangs when executing sax2 or when shuttiong down the X-server on a system with a Leadtec Geforce3 64MB VGA card. How can i find out if this is duo to a bad card?
