mail command and "from" header

Using mutt, I can put a line in .muttrc to change the "from" header: my_hdr From: paulsen(a)texas.net Is there an equivalent configuration option for the mail command? (I looked at "man mail" and /usr/share/doc/packages/mail>manual.ps.gz and found lots of options, but none for this.) I am able to configure sendmail to change the host name, but haven't found a way to change user ids. SuSE Linux Kernel 2.4.16 and Reiserfs

Hi all, A couple of days ago i attempted to upgrade to kernel 2.4.16 for SuSE Linux 7.1 using the provided rpm's. I used Pentium optimized version and after rpm -Uvh i run mk_initrd as recommend and get reiserfs no such modules. So took a look at /lib/modules and support other fs are present including ext3 but reiserfs. But if get development kernel reiserfs support is and my old 2.4.7 kernel as as support for it wonder what i am doing wrong. Regards, Alex :)

Rogers has their email servers set up so that any mail coming from outside Rogers, but with an @ rogers.com 'from' address will be rejected as spam. Their technicians "are working on it". SuSE Linux Looking Better than Ever

I have been working with one of the other linux distributions at work. (It goes without saying that I run _SuSE_ Linux on my own workstation.) I'm sure part of the reason I like SuSE better is because of familiarity. Nonetheless, my overall impression is SuSE is better organized regarding configuration files in /etc, and etc. I've also discovered a few gotchas in the other distribution which cost me and my coworkers a considerable amount of time. There may be features of the other distribution which I have yet to discover and which provide the same kind of ease of management we find in YaST, but from what I've seen, SuSE's distribution is *far* easier to manage. I know YaST isn't Open Source, and the purists can find fault in that. I don't believe YaST breaks the Open Source model or threatens to 'fork' Linux. These are issues worth keeping in mind when comparing distribution. It's important there is never a Redmond style monopoly in Linux. If I understand correctly, YaST merely serves to automatically organize the Linux configuration in accordance with the LSB. I'm happy to report that my, MCSE, Microsoft-is-All, boss has taken a great liking to Linux. He is actually pushing to move some aspects of our project to Linux. The next step is to sneak a SuSE install onto one of our systems over the weekend so I can show off the capabilities. To give just one example of how YaST(2) facilitates management, our office sysadmin told me she uses a tool called Nmap. I had been looking at NetSaint, Saint, Ksnuffle, and the rather neglected KNetDump. I reasoned that if Nmap is worth anything, it is on the SuSE distribution CDs. All I had to do was click on the YaST2 software installation icon, browse to the nmap (or was it XNmap?) and install it by giving the root password. Keep up the good work SuSE! Steven

unable to copy and paste across apps

I was unable to copy 4 lines of text from an error message file in Kedit and paste it into Netscape. Using netscape to access yahoo mail, I was creating a message to send via yahoo mail. Anyone know why? what I don't have installed or enabled? My machine is SuSE 7.2pro. Full installation of everything. I thought there was some equivalent of win32's clipboard active in kde2. Finally got yahoo to send the errors as an attachment. First I had to enable java script in netscape. I had it disabled cause I just ~hate~ java stuff as a browser user. You can be working along and something in the java program will re-select something you've just de-selected, or change your city,state selection without you knowing it. And slow to respond to keystrokes, forgot that. yeck. Still would like to know why copy and paste fails. Tom

Hi does have somebody already configured SuSE Linux 7.3 for the sound chip Analog Device AD1885 ? I'm the happy owner of a Dell Dimension 8200 with the following configuration : P4 1.8 Ghz, 512 Mhz Suse Linux 7.3 (kernel 2.4.10 Xfree 4.0.?) I've tried alsaconf, which said that it has detected a sound chip (the same as above), i've set the volume to the maximun but I can't hear anything... 2.4.17 kernel installation follow-up

Hi all, Just a quick follow-up to my kernel 2.4.17 story from yesterday... I perservered with the new kernel image despite problems with sound and apparent problems with NFS. However, sound was fixed after I ran alsaconf as root, and set up the ESS Maestro 2E sound card in my laptop. The NFS problems appear to be a setup issue as well - I'm looking into it a little more today. On the PCMCIA/wireless side of things, the Orinoco drivers are working well, so that is a plus. Interestingly, they don't seem to work any better than the wvlan driver did, though. I'll try to build the drivers that came with my Avaya card today and see what happens with those. -ronc
