It doesn't expire and its a full working version except it only runs off the CD. Now we shouldn't hear any more whining about no ISO's. I have no problem shelling out $70 for such a great OS. I tried the FREE ISO for about a day before I decided I was switching from mandrake to suse. If your really broke and can't afford it, there are places where you can get the full 7 CD sets if you just do some looking. Besides that there are many distros that are free and can be downloaded for free at the respective sites. I could be wrong (please correct me if I am) but I think you can do an FTP install for nothing as well. In addition, you could download the .rpm's and install. Why do people think a company can stay in business without making money? Don't wanna pay for linux? Build your own! Sorry for my outburst but I could'nt take it anymore.

CD AUTO install

I've adapted a SuSE 7.3 boot CD for our own purpose. This CD is an auto install CD using Yast1. However, I've some questions: - The first script started after reboot is '/lib/YaST/bootsetup' but from where is this script started? - Is it possible to add a directory to the install CD which is copied one-to-one to the install medium? Dus for example, I want the directory '/usr/MyCompany' with some scripts to be installed. I thought the directory '.../suse/inst-sys' is a tree which is copied to the system, but I'm wrong. Anyone an idea how to fix this? - I cannot get the 'POST_INSTALL' scripts to work properly. It seems to me the scripts aren't runned at all. Is this a bug? Support for Yast1 auto install is a little bit tricky :-| ...... - How can I surpress the questions asked for example about the hostname/domain. I've entered these in the info file with 'RC_CONFIG_0', but there is still a confirmation wanted from the user. And this I *DONT* want. Anyone....? Kernel 2.4.16 and USB

Hi, I just upgraded to kernel 2.4.16 on SUSE 7.2 and now i now i have a problem shutting the system down. Problem: When shutting donw (reboot, halt or ctrl-alt-del) the scripts stop at 'unmounting file systems'. This kernel (in contrast to 2.4.4) makes a mount /proc/bus/usb which may be the cause. because when i plug off my usb modem before shutting down everything is fine. Any better suggestions? DHCP and windows clients

Hi, I wonder if any of you has faced such a problem. We have deployed a DHCP server and users with their notebooks get their IP from DHCP depending on the MAC address of the ethernets. However, I could not find any way to determine that each users will get their assigned IP if they set up their IP statically for their W2K. To work this around I'm thinking to deploy identd on every client and periodically check against arping sweep to verifiy MAC addresses with users. Does anyone have a suggestion? Regards, Oyku Gencay

Hi, All these vendors do now provide good support for Linux with drivers and information. I have an Epson Perfection 1240U scanner which works very nicely, as well as an HP Deskjet 950C which also does fine. Multifunction is often regarded as practical, but expensive regarding operation costs. If you will use it sparely, it may be ok, but for heavy use a separate scanner and printer is a more economical solution. For graphics it IS possible to do auto detection... Try 'sax2 -a' You could guess where the '-a' stands for ;-) But it would indeed be nice to have a script for autodetect hardware. I'm working on an auto install of SuSE we need at our company, and I've created a small script to extract network card info from 'hwinfo'. But a complete script which covers it all would be very nice! SuSE 7.2, AMD and Geforce3 --- solution

Hi all, I had trouble getting the above top work. The system crashes when activating Sax2 or when killing the X-Server (loggin off). The SuSE database suggests upgrading Sax2, hwinfo and pam_devperm and adding all users to the 'video' group. This did not do it for me. Anonther suggestion was to upgrade Xfree to 4.2.0 and the kernel to 2.4.16. After downloading all (56K USB modem at EURO 0,1 per minute) i installed all and IT WORKS! pppd error on connecting to ISP

Hi all I have a new problem on a Suse 7.1 system I am setting up for my nephew. This one is related to connecting to their ISP. On using Wvdial to connect to the ISP, the modem connects but disconnects straight away with the following error. Feb 18 22:17:12 linux pppd[1534]: Plugin /usr/lib/passwordfd.so loaded. Feb 18 22:17:12 linux pppd[1534]: pppd 2.4.0 started by root, uid 0 Feb 18 22:17:12 linux pppd[1534]: Perms of /dev/ttyS1 are ok, no 'mesg n' neccesary. Feb 18 22:17:21 linux pppd[1534]: Terminating on signal 15. Feb 18 22:17:21 linux pppd[1534]: Exit. Feb 18 22:24:44 linux pppd[2339]: Plugin /usr/lib/passwordfd.so loaded. Feb 18 22:24:44 linux pppd[2339]: pppd 2.4.0 started by root, uid 0 Feb 18 22:24:44 linux pppd[2339]: Perms of /dev/ttyS1 are ok, no 'mesg n' neccesary. Feb 18 22:24:59 linux pppd[2339]: Terminating on signal 15. Feb 18 22:24:59 linux pppd[2339]: Exit. If I run from a terminal, kppp to connect, I get lines of this following error. Couldn't find interface ppp0: No such device. Then if I put a 2 second pause on kppp, I get the welcome notes from the ISP but still no connect. I have tried 3 separate Rockwell based external modems, two separate phone lines, removing & reinstalling both wvdial & pppd rpms, configuring the dial-up through both yast & yast2 & last but not least, deleting the config files & starting from scratch. I myself use the same ISP with my SuSe 7.1 system, with all the same settings (including phone number), & have never had a single problem in connecting. The system is as follows, Acer MX34 mainboard with Celeron 800 cpu 320mb SDRAM 20GB hdd (all Suse) The system is NOT networked or has any network card installed, only the modem for the Internet. I have tried the following external modems: 33 Kbps Rockwell Based 33Kbps Tasmanian Devil 56Kbps KTX (Rockwell based) The KTX has been used on Suse 7.1 before with no errors & all 3 modems connect perfectly through windows. Can anyone help with this one?
