Followup to LexmarkZ52....

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 As a follow to SuSE, and others here, I was working on a Dell...reinstall...change of HD, and had done what I normally do with 7.3, and installed the default with Office. After setup, I tried to install the Lexmark52 drivers......NADA. I had an error in xterm telling me the driver needs the libslang lib...ok, I found the "slang" package on 7.3 and installed it. Then, I was getting all kinds of errors........dirs not found, etc. For some reason, and Michael at SuSE gave me the answer unknowingly. He suggested I run rpm - -qip and look to see what the dependencies, etc. were. The is the first time enscript hasn't installed on a new install, and it HAD to be installed for the Lexmark script to run correctly. So, just in case someone else has the same problem, make sure BOTH of these (libslang) and enscript are installed. Fred - -- Fred A. Miller Systems Administrator Cornell Univ. FW_SERVICE_AUTODETECT

I have been experimenting with the SuSEfirewall2 package. This setting in the /etc/rc.config.d/firewall2.rc.config file is option 12. If FW_SERVICE_AUTODETECT="yes", does this mean that the script detects the services I have running and leaves them alone or detects thems and blocks them? How does this interact with option 8, FW_AUTOPROTECT_SERVICES="yes"? Accessing an MS VPN via Linux

Hi all, I'm trying to get access to my company's VPN server, which is MS VPN. I've been using the PPTP v1.02 client, and it looks like it successfully contacts the VPN server, but authentication fails. The VPN client for my MS box has the "Require Secure Password" checkbox, but on my Linux laptop, the chap-secrets file does not have encrypted passwords. Does anyone know if there is something that I need to do in the chap-secrets file to make this work? -ronc

hello I've been fooling with SuSE for only a short time and enjoy it quite a bit.I've just joined this list.I've heard so much about the help,the hints and general community feel in using a superior operating system. Try getting this type of help from any other part of life.Good luck. I'd like to thank you all is advance. Well,now to my question: I'm running SuSE 7.0 and a friend of mine just gave me a cd-rw.I want to use it on my machine.So how do I do this.I know how to physically install the unit in the chassis,plug in the ribbon cable,and the power supply.I don't know how to tell SuSE Linux that it is a cd-rw.I'm a little familar with YAST and YAST2 ,If I need to use that.Iguess I'm still in the 20th Century never having had a burner but I'm very anxious to use it. I looked for a LUG in my area but I live in the northwest area of Wyoming. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. TIA Rev Rob

Radeon 7000 3d ?

Hi all, I bought a radeon 7000 cheaply today, for my other pc. I was going to use this card for windows stuff( dreamweaver ) and maybe a few games. However ... This card has dual outputs so I thought Id see how it would be for a linux box, maybe I'll use it for my work machine. Suse 7.3 installed like a dream, and up popped a nicely setup 2d x. but. If I run /usr/bin/gears framerate is 136 not good. How do I enable the 3d part of the card in 7.3 ?? dids
