Within the email was mention of nedit being in xap: Or just install the nedit.rpm from series xap in Yast. I went looking for nedit in xap series and didn't find it so I asked the question. with Suse 7.1 Pro I have had intermittent problems with my cdrom In the Xconsole I see that after a while I get timeout errors on /dev/hdb (my cdrom) and then just nothing happens eventually, it may or may not come back but if it does it informs me of an I/O error. Then I have to reboot my machine to get it to mount because until I do it tells me that there is no media in the drive. I feel that this is definitely a kernel/driver problem It is just a normal IDE CDROM nothing special. Anyone else having these problems? Howdy, I have a file that's a list of hostnames from 2 different apache servers. Hi Barnet, It seems to affect Athlon systems using the VIA vt82c686a Southbridge chip. The problem manifests itself as filesystem corruption when long files are being accessed. The problem is in the VIA chip itself, so other Athlon mobos should be okay. Kernel 2.2.4-pre6 and newer seem to have the official VIA workaround. I never saw the problem, it might only affect IDE disks, not SCSI. Installing kernel 2.4 from scratch, few questions

Do I need to upgrade mod-utils? If so, I have the latest, 2.45-1, however, it conflicts with another package. Do I 'force' the install of the newer mod-utils package? Second, I just retrieved kernel-2.4.4 from ftp.kernel.org, is this the kernel I want to use for SuSE 7.0? Thanks, CC

RealTek Network Card and SuSE 7.1

Hey Gang, Bringing up a new install of 7.1 on an HP Kayak XU800 with a RealTek RTL8139 NIC card. I installed from an ftp server after selecting the RealTek RTL8129/8139 NIC kernel module during the yast1 ftp install. After the successful install SuSE rebooted and everything except the NIC came up. Which is strange since I just got done installing over that same NIC. The errors at boot time are: ---------------------------- Initializing random number generator done Setting up network device eth0 modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0 SIOCSIFADDR: No such device modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0 eth0: unknown interface: No such device modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0 SIOCSIFBRDADDR: No such device modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0 eth0: unknown interface: No such device modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0 SIOCSIFNETMASK: No such device modprobe: modprobe: Can't locate module eth0 eth0: unknown interface: No such device failed ---------------------------- This same system works just fine on the 7.0 install. I went ahead and copied over the /[etc|sbin]/init.d/network and /etc/modules.conf from a duplicate Kayak XU800 successfully running 7.0 SuSE to no avail. Anybody got ideas what's wrong. -jpg
