On my internal network I use spong (server and networkmodule), to check ping, dns, smtp and http status of several servers, also some with external IP's. The spong-client can be run on the local machine, reporting to the server the cpu-load, disk capacity, running programs, and can check your logfiles for strange entries. I haven't looked into security issues regarding sending this info over the net, though. You might want to take a look at it, it's at http://spong.sourceforge.net/ (and I use the stable 2.6f version). Hi Derek, Thanks for the quick response. In fact, i wanted this information since my Netscape 4.7 comes out when i try to play sound files given in the Java tutorial. I downloaded the plugins for Netscape and extracted it into my .netscape directory. I downloaded the nsfix.rpm also but to no avail!! Hi, ** 1) Ok I compile my custom kernel make dep, clean, modules, modules_install...blah blah ** blah and all this bull**** ** ok then when I boot it boots normaly until to the point where it says...checking modules ** dependencies...well and there is stops. What happens is the hard disk stops and I have ** to press Ctrl-C to skip the dependency check and move to another task. When I do that it ** continues normaly but the x-server does not load. I can only login on text mode. ** What gives? Is it some module dependency probelmo? When I do depmod -a -e it say quite a ** lot of modules have some kinda of inconsistency....why?? what can I do? Why the hell do you need to compile the kernel? Check /etc/modules.conf and load the ones you need. Between, firewall, clients and servers, all the systems I've built have a stock kernel as provided with the req'd modules. Personally, RTFM mate. ** 2) Questiona numero dos....I have a 3d card with the NVidia TNT2 chip on it. Could I use ** this to play GLQuake? if not could I use it as a doorstop? >From the x3d collection install the rivaglx package. Then read the documents in /usr/doc/packages/riva-something-or-other (I forget the dir). You load the module into the X server, then it works. [SLE] linux on HP9000 E25

I have an HP 9000 E25 and I have no Operating System on it. I like to install a linux os on this machine. I think there is a distribution for this architecture but ... I have no knowledge about installation on such a machine. I think I must use dd , without partitioning ... or .... I dont't know. LINUX/UNIX FILE-INFECTING VIRUSES (1) ------------------------------------- UNIX/LOVELETTER.WORM The above was in the readme.txt from the DAT4079.zip for NA Anti Virus software, saying what new viruses the dat detects. How does this sort of virus attack Unix/Linux? Surely to do any sort of damage it has to be able to have user access. Or does it run from Windows and attack over Samba? I'm looking at NAI and there is no info on it - despite them able to find and clean it. I'm not worried - just very curious! A colleague has just phoned me and asked if a driver is available for a Compaq PCI NIC. Markings include: Compaq 10/100 PCI NC3121 Intel chipset (sb82558b) P/N 317600-B21. Is there a driver? I think that chances are good with an Intel chipset on it. [SLE] Vanilla Kernel 2.4.0-Test1 + ReiserFS

I'm currently d/ling 2.4.0-Test1 and have ReiserFS installed on my current 2.2.15 setup. Any pointers on setting up Reiser with 2.4? Will the 2.3.99Pre patches work on the 2.4 source? Plus, I've just changed my web space over to Reiser and have noticed that everytime I upload files from my NT machine to the Linux box I get the message that a newer version of files exists on the Linux machine. The time is set the same on both machines. How does Reiser store its time stamp? Is there a problem.
